  1. My mom and I both went to the Nicholson Clinic. I had Dr. Nick do a band on me five years ago and he did my band to sleeve revision a month ago. Both times were great and everyone at their offices are extremely helpful. My mom had a sleeve done earlier this year and she had one of his associates Dr. Roshek for her surgery. She loved him as well. They have a third surgeon, but I can't vouch for him because I don't know anyone who has used him personally. Also, they're a center of excellence if that's a requirement for your insurance. I hope you find the right place for you so that you can reach your goals. Good luck!
  2. I had my revision 4 weeks ago today on 6/30 and I've lost 23 pounds since my then. Before surgery I was having a hard time keeping anything down prior to surgery due to all of the problems with my band so for the last month before surgery I did a mostly liquid diet with some sort of a chicken meal each night. I lost 20 pounds on that before my surgery. So, since the last week of May/first week of June I've lost 46 pounds. Honestly, on a day to day basis my weight loss feels so slow, but when I sit back and look at what I've done in so little time it feels amazing. Whether anyone loses 20 or 30 or 40 pounds in the first few months, I don't think they should feel bad about that. It's an amazing accomplishment. What I always tell myself is would I have been able to do this without the surgery? I'm not sure that I could. I definitely wouldn't have stuck to that diet for a month. Having my surgery date as a end point really helped me and now that I've done it I can definitely feel the change in my cravings and physical and emotional hunger.
  3. I had my revision on 6/30/15 and they put a pressure dressing over my former port site to prevent this. It's just a clear tagaderm dressing over sterile cotton balls that keep pressure on the site so no fluid will form in that pocket that your port was in. I was told to leave it on until my two week checkup but if it fell off before that was ok. I showered every day and it didnt fall off until my appointment day and only because that was the first time I'd worn jeans since my surgery. I don't know if I could have handled what you guys went. Happy to hear that a lot of you have stopped having drainage.
  4. I used Dr. Nicholson for my band in 2010 and he just did my revision to sleeve a few days ago at forest park. My mom had a sleeve a few months ago and she used Dr. Roshek out of his office at one of the Baylor surgery centers. The baylor surgery center was a nicer facility just based on aesthetics and room size but I had no issues at forest park. I would recommend either Dr. They were both wonderful and we've had no complications. Everyone at their office is great and very helpful. I especially like Sandy, one of the Nurse Practitioners.
  5. I was banded in 2010 (private pay) and never found my sweet spot. I was fed up with it 18 months later and quit going to the dr for fills and ended up gaining all of my weight back. Then, over the past year I've had a lot of trouble keeping solid food down (regurgitation) and when it got to a point where it was happening on a daily basis I went in to my Dr's office and after an upper GI they told me I had esophageal dysmotility. My esophagus wasnt doing the muscle motion needed to help me swallow and overall that my body wasn't agreeing with the band anymore and it needed to come out. I couldn't afford to pay for another out of pocket surgery so I asked what the cost was for a revision like mine and they told me that if you have a hernia (I did) and/or are having true medical problems that are caused by the band then bcbs would cover my revision. This turned out to be true, but it still wasn't cheap by any means. I paid about $5500 total for the dr, my egd and the surgery center's fee. Good luck with getting your revision!
