  1. I'm from NYC, Brooklyn to be exact, I work in Washington Heights. I'm about 10 months out
  2. In the last month or two, I have noticed that my veins are protruding so much in my forearms and hands! Have anyone else experienced this?
  3. I was wondering the same! I track my exercise with the planet fitness app, but for food I find it more difficult because you put in what you're eating as a weight loss patient and the app acts like you have some sort of eating disorder, not that this is impossible but I wonder if there is an app that takes into account that you've had WLS!
  4. Ok, so I was barely squeezing into a 30/32 in avenue women's clothing prior to surgery. So at about 10 months post-op, I went to lane bryant's during a sale and decided to buy a size 18/20 (I've always been hourglass/pear shape), thinking, these pants will probably last me through thanksgiving (I've experienced too big pants that look like you 're carrying a load of something really unpleasant around in the gluteal area), and those joints fit....I mean they fit like the fit will only last about a month of two; what a NSV for me! Another NSV is two other people sitting next to me on the NYC MTA subway (ok so they, not the fattest person, but two other people on a three sitter is an NSV for me!).

    Before and After Pics

Thanks for posting your amazing and inspiring journeys!
  6. What are some of your success? What have you learned?
  7. I'm about 9 weeks out and I've began to exercise three times a week for about 30 to 35 mins. I was just wondering what everyone else is doing.
  8. I want to start the C25K plan for walking to running, but I'm a little concern it may be too much. Currently I exercise 4 to 5 days a week for 45 minutes. I getting all my Water in, about 900 calories a day, and 70 to 90 grams of Protein. I was just wondering if anyone has done or started this program and was it very strenuous?
  9. So I'm at at this plus-sized store, name not to be mentioned, in their clearance rack trying to decide what to buy. Needless to say, this is the end of the winter season and I'm confused as to what to buy because I don't know what size I'll be next winter season. As usual, I buy this shirt that is all season, I live in the upper East Coast of the U.S.A and I want something that can work for me in the coming spring season. I'm trying to decide between a 18/20 and a 14/16. My mind is telling me to the buy the 18/20, I started this journey with a tight 26/28, but my other voice was saying there is not guarantee you'll be a 14/16 by the end of the summer. I say all this to say that I tried the 18/20 sweater-like shirt on and it fit so well. I was amazed!

    Non-scale victories

I put on a pair of jeans that I couldn't even pull over my thighs from like two years ago...with the tag still on them, over my leggings (it's freezing in NYC) and those jeans were too big! My coworkers were laughing at me saying the only thing that was keeping my pants up was my boots!
  11. I used to love onions, but cooked or raw...all makes me want to vomit now!
  12. How do you schedule you heaviest meal. Just looking for suggestions. I work 5 days a week from 3:30pm to 12 am. I usually get home about 1:20 am. I use the elliptical for at least 30 minutes 3 to 4 times a week during my lunch hour. Sometimes, when I can wake up early enough, I go the the gym before work. I mostly go to bed around 6am until 12:30pm or 1pm after I get my teenager off to school. I'm looking for suggestions for meeting my Protein intake. I take all my Vitamins, I get at least 8 glasses of Water every day but I'm not eating enough calories and I know it's affecting my weight loss. I average about 450 t0 600 calories with exercise every day. Thanks for your kind advice in a advance. i want to start the couch to 5k soon but I feel I'm not currently taking enough calories in for this thus far.

    Regret over what I ate.....

The only useful advice that I can offer is to just be conscious of being mindful of what you eat, Something like a one time event is not a red flag to me. However, if this is happening more often than not ...then there's a cause for concern. I say this to say that we all know where we are coming from and eventually where we want to be. Mindfulness, in my opinion, is what keeps us on track to get to the weight we ultimately want to be!
  14. I'm about 11 weeks out, almost three months. I'm trying to incorporate salad into my diet because I've been craving it, but each of the three times I've tried a salad (and chopped at that), it has sent me to the bathroom within two hours with a lot of undigested greens. My salad is usually spinach, grilled chicken, chick peas, egg whites, roasted peppers, and carrots with balsamic vinegar. Do I need to wait a little longer to try salad? Any suggestion will be appreciated.
  15. I work from 3:30pm to 12pm. I get home about 1:30am. Unfortunately, I'm this to be my "evening time" so to speak. I try not to snack but what I'm finding happens is that I go to sleep about 6am (if I'm not sleep by 4am, I usually just stay up to make sure my 14 year old get out of the house in time for school). I usually find that I'm often craving something salty. I usually get up by 12:15pm if I'm going to the gym and about 1:30pm if I'm not. My problem is that I'm not eating enough and sometimes get light headed; any suggestions?

    How much is enough

I find it helpful to look for signs of fullness. For me I feel a little strange and then the next bite results in burps, so I take burps as I sign that I'm beyond full.

    Is it normal

I'm almost three months out and I have to make a conscious effort to eat although for some reason I can detect my body needing some sort of nutrients because I start to crave salt and crunchy.

Five and a half years out

Did you have the lap band first?
  19. @@usedtobeaskater I feel so much better than I did even 3 months ago. I'm still learning my sleeve and gaining confidence of mine and its ability. I do have so much energy now. I used to wait for two elevators in the subway in NYC to get to street level when I was going to work. Now I that the stairs without a moment's hesitation. I hope your journey continues to bring much success! @@agreen67, I am also trying to make going to the gym routine. I've been successful with three times a week for the last three. Go us!

    Salad

I tried salad three time, I'm a little ver 10 weeks out. Every time, within an hour I was in the bathroom with explosive diarrhea! My salad was grilled chicken, baby spinach, carrots, egg whites, and chick peas with a little dressing chopped up.
  21. i just really started routinely exercising about three weeks ago. I started walking, now I've incorporated the elliptical trainer and weights. I was sleeved on 10/26/15. I plan to start swimming in two months, and kickboxing in three.
  22. I had my band removed in one day as an ambulatory surgery. In at 11am, home by 4pm (I even went shopping immediately after). I was mostly sore where the port was removed. Had my band removed 8/31 and was sleeved 10/26.

    Guess what?

LOL! I'm down 54lbs (with a long way to go) and I now can see a little more than a hint of a wrist bone...go figure!

    Ashamed

I thought I was the only one who felt this way!
