March 21 Surgery Date
Right now my doctor just has me staying away from fatty foods and doing protein drinks twice a day and making good food choices until March 19 when I start the liquids only pre-op diet. I'm glad to know there is someone else getting banded the same day as me, I've been afraid that my doctor might want to reschedule my surgery since that is Good Friday and it didn't appear anyone else was being banded that day. Glad I don't have to do the liquids this far in advance, I'm still experimenting with protein drinks and have only found 1 so far that I'm happy with. It's Nectar Sweet Chocolate Truffle with 46 grams of protein mixed with 16 oz water made by Syntrax. Hope I find something else before the 19th, I'm not liking Isopure, Cytosport, New Whey. I have some Unjury that I haven't tried yet, maybe it will be good, guess I'll find out. We'll have to keep in touch and compare notes since we'll be going thru this together!

Referred to behavioral mod classes before surgery.
My pschologist has me seeing a person in his office for behavior modification, however, I've only been seeing her the last couple of weeks and my surgery is scheduled for March 21. She told me they like to do this over a longer period of time sometimes 6 to 8 weeks before surgery, but my date was just set recently and I hadn't gotten into see her earlier. So far she's been a BIG help and I'd recommend it to you and anyone else that could see someone for help on this issue. She told me it is to get you used to your new eating behaviors so you don't go into it cold turkey and that what they are seeing in there office 2 year post op patients that did NOT have this therapy are regaining some of their weight and old eating habits, thus, the reasoning behind it. Go for it and reap the rewards it should bring later!!

Glaucoma
Hm, interesting. I also am a Glaucoma suspect and see my opthalmogist every 6 months. I'll be interested to see what my pressure is the next time I see him once I'm banded. Thanks for posting this!!

I got the look...
I guess I'm the lucky one, I actually had 2 of my doctors recommend the lapband surgery and I didn't even bring it up. After hearing that from 2 doctors over a 6 month time period, I decided that I should get serious and look into it, thus, here I am and I'll be banded on March 21. This website has been a godsend to me for gathering information and getting input from other people who've already had the procedure and I think this is just what I need to help keep my weight off once I get to my goal. I'm like everyone else here, lost the weight and put back on twice as much. Just remember you're doing this for you and don't let other people's comments get to you, this is your body and your life!!

Thanks for posting that link Ghost about the 2 bands. I think after going to the support group the other nite and finding out that the new Realize band has only been put in once so far by Dr. Hoehn or Hitchcock and that #2 is being planned sometime soon, that I might go with the Allergan, but the juries still out here, lol. Now that I'm less than 3 weeks away, I'm beginning to get a little more nervous, but I'm still excited and can't wait for it to be over with so I can start using my new tool. This website has been a godsend for me and I'll continue to post even after surgery!!!

What is the march bandster's official name for this year?
I vote for Shrinking Shamrocks, I'm being banded March 21. I went ahead and added the shamrocks to my signature too. This is great!!

March 21 Surgery Date
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that you get your date soon, that would be great if we could be banded on or around the same time. It looks like your starting weight at your consultation is just about where I started at my initial consultation. I'm 5'4" so I'm going to shoot for a goal of 150-160 to begin with but might try to go lower when I get there. I'm going to have to add some exercise to my daily routine to help keep my metabolism going and have yet to do that. I'll get my rear in gear one of these days. Keep me posted on your date.

I am not alone...Am I?
I just found out my surgery date, which is March 21 so I wanted to join the March bandster club and celebrate. I start my preop diet 2 days before surgery and I'm just now getting ready to explore the different protein drinks. I'll have to try Unjury since it appears to be a favorite.

Congrats on your surgery date. I also found out my surgery date a couple of days ago, it is March 21 and I am very excited. I also asked Dr. H about the 2 different bands, he said he didn't think either of them were better than the other, but I'd like get more information on both in case I decide to do one over the other.

Does anyone know how many calaries are in these foods?
I really like this website. You can search for foods at specific restaurants and/or just look up a food by brand or otherwise. Weight Loss - List by Brand Name - Restaurants - Nutrition Facts - DietFacts.com

Evelas, congrats you've started your journey through bandland. I'm still on the pre-band journey myself and hope to get a surgery date real soon, just waiting to get the letter from the insurance company and hear from Dr. Hoehn's office for official surgery approval. I called the insurance company last week and was told they approved me so now it's just a waiting game for me . This website has been a godsend for me and is very informative, I plan to come here for support after surgery too. I also attended last Thursday's support group meeting and found it very interesting, this is the 2nd one I've been too. Maybe we can look each other up if you are going to the next one. I think there is another one in a week or two, if you want to get together at the meeting, private message me with your phone number and I'll give you mine and maybe we can sit together and get to know each other and work on doing this together. I'd love to have a buddy that's having this done to travel down this road to bandland together :crying:. Ghost, glad to know that the cardiologist appt you had was because of an existing heart condition, maybe, I won't have to see one, but if I do, I'll do whatever is necessary. Wheetsin, thanks for all your invaluable information, I just keep coming back for more everyday just love this website.

Hi Wheetsin, no as of today, I still have not had my consultation with Dr. Hoehn, I guess that will come when their office receives notice that insurance is approved. So hopefully, since I just talked to the insurance company yesterday and was told I have been approved that Dr. Hoehn's office will here back very soon. Then I guess the pre-op education class will be scheduled too. Do you know if seeing a cardiologist or having a sleep study is required, I've seen some posts where people indicated they had to do that also, just wondering? Thanks again.

Chiropractor Question
Thank you all for answering my question about the chiropractor, I feel much better knowing that I can still get my adjustments when needed. I will probably wait 6 weeks like most of you have indicated and with any luck some weight loss will help the situation. I hope to be a bandster soon :tongue2:

Thanks Wheetsin, I've already seen the dietician, Dr. Sabapathy and took the phsycy eval. I have to see Erin a few times in Dr. Sabapathy's office and still need to do preop education class, I know that I still have to meet with Dr. Hoehn also, I was just hoping to get a surgery date soon and wasn't sure if anything else was going to be required. Thanks for the info.

just waiting
Hi Mom, I also have UHC and mine was submitted on January 31, I too have been calling everyday to check to see if the paperwork had arrived and 2 days ago was told they did not have it yet and that when they get it they would have 30 days to review it. Too my surprise this morning when I called, I actually got a rep that wanted to make sure she looked in the right place in my records and I was told that they received my paperwork on January 31 and I asked if they had reviewed it yet and she said yes it has been approved and was just noted yesterday. I got the impression from this rep that they have a specific area to look for pre-certification approval, I would call again and be a little agressive with them. Hope this helps.

Chiropractor Question
Hi everyone, I just found out that I've finally been approved, I don't have a surgery date yet since I just talked to the insurance company this morning, but hope to have a date soon. I have a question, I've been wondering if anyone has gone to the chiropractor for an adjustment after having their band placed? I didn't know if it would be possible for the port or the band to be misplaced by having the chiropractor do his adjustments. I ask because I see a chiropractor frequently for back and hip pain. Any responses would be great, thanks.

LBT Official Cookbook?
Sounds good to me too. I haven't been banded yet, but I'd buy one.
