Hi Lisa, I didn't login til today, but I was NOT at the meeting last nite. However, I noticed there is one tonite at SMMC at 6:00, they moved it up a week early because of XMAS and my husband and I plan on being there tonite. Maybe we can meet up tonite. I have a blue and white shirt on with blue jeans. My coat is green and beige. Maybe we'll see you tonite.

Band Slip?
I've also had the same thing's happening, but, my doctor said if my band had slipped that I would not be able to keep ANYTHING down, no water or food, so he tells me I'm fine. He said if it's slipped it will also be painful, so I think you're ok, but I'd definitely check with your doctor.

Just wanted everyone to know that I plan on coming to the support group meeting tonite. I'm wearing my red shirt if anyone wants to look me up. I'm not sure that I know any of you except for Erika and I have seen Jeannette even though I haven't introduced myself. Maybe I'll get around to doing that tonite, lol.

Kansan here...
Hi Fellow KCKS bander. I'm sorry to hear you're not losing any weight. Go get another fill..... I've been banded since March and I'm down about 52 pounds since surgery and 20 pre-surgery. It sounds like you need to eat more protein, try chicken and fish. I eat a lot of chicken and fish and salads with low calorie dressing (16 calories per 2 tbsp). You can bake fish and chicken and it takes no time at all too cook. I have had 4 fills and think I'm at my sweet spot for now at least and have good restriction. If you're not exercising you also need to start, I use a treadmill. If you don't have a treadmill, go for a walk. Start out slow and just do it every other day and do it for 15 minutes and work yourself up to more each time you walk. Exercising will help speed up your metabolism. Please don't get discouraged, just try to make better eating choices and follow your dietician's guideline if you have one. If you need to chat with me feel free to send me a Private Message. Good luck.

United Healthcare and AT&T
Hi Tiffany, were you a Cingular employee before being picked up by AT&T? If so, you will probably have to wait for a new contract to find out if the exclusion is lifted. I was a Southwestern Bell employee before it turned over to AT&T and my UHC did not have the exclusion. I suppose you can go ahead and try, but don't be surprised if your turned down. Sorry!!

Buffet discount for banders
I have eaten buffet at Golden Corral and most of those restaurants that I've gone to have been very gracious and given me the childs price for the buffet. I agree with Clayverde that you have so many choices from the buffet that I don't mind eating there when we go out. We used to have a Souper salad which I loved, but it is no longer in town. I miss that place. I carry my card with me at all times and do not hesitate to ask about a discount. If they tell me no, it's no big deal, all I had to do was ask.

Lisa I'm so glad you're surgery went well and you're on the mend. You'll probably feel well enough to attend the meeting this Thursday, I went 1 week after surgery and was fine. JoAnne hope to meet you at the meeting. I post every now and then on the fifties thread and I've read your post and you seem to have so many good words of encouragement. Some days I need more encouraging than others, lol.... Erika hope everything is going well with you since your fill. I've had 4 fills now and I can truly say that I now have restriction. In fact, I've almost got too much restriction but I'm just trying to adjust to it and eating much smaller bites and eating much slower. I am consuming way less food than I was before this fill and I'm happy with the amount that I'm consuming. It's been a little over a week since my last fill and I think I can honestly say that I'm at my sweet spot finally. Hope to see all of you at Thursday's meeting.

I need some help!
Yes, it sounds like the chicken is stuck. I've had that happen a few times in the last 5 or 6 weeks. If you have some pineapple juice or canned pineapple, take a sip or two of the juice and wait for a bit and that should help the chicken go down or it will bring it back up. Try not to stress out this will make the pain worse. I've also heard you can take a little bit of meat tenderizer and put it in a spoonful of water and drink it to help the chicken go down but I have not tried that personally since the pineapple juice always works for me. Goodluck, it will pass.

Chicken, chicken, chicken...
I found tilapia to be "fishy" tasting, but you can squeeze a little lemon juice on it and it takes away the fishy taste. Also, I have found another fish that we get at Pricechopper called Basa/Kwai a vietnamese fish that truly is not fishy tasting and I love it. You can get it in the deli/meat department at Pricechopper. I bet other grocery stores have it too if you don't have a Pricechopper.

Cost estimates?
I had surgery in March of this year and I also have insurance. My insurance was charged approximately $50,000 after the hospital, anesthesiologist, doctor, anybody else involved was paid. Insurance did NOT pay very much of it at all, less than $10,000, but luckily I did not have to pickup the difference. My experience with hospitals has been that they tend to overcharge the insurance company so they are sure they will get the maximum from the insurance companies.

My Wife Wants Lap-Band...
I was banded 4 months ago and my hubby was not. He needs to lose weight also and told me he was going to do the lapband as well, but now that I'm 4 months down the road he has still not filled out his paperwork to do so. He is supportive of my decision, which is good, however, I find that I think he is sometimes trying to sabautage (spelling) my weightloss efforts by bringing cookies, cakes, etc. into the house that I really need to stay away from. Other than that, he has been supportive. I hope one day that he will do the band, but I'm not pushing it because I know that if I do it will just make him shy away from it even more than he seems to be doing now. I think my experiences that I've encountered the last couple of months having PB'd 3 times might be scaring him off of having it done himself and he seems to think like you do that he can diet himself. Whatever, he decides to do I will be by his side and support him. I commend you for supporting your wife and I know the both of you will do just fine in your decisions.

Lisa, congrats on your insurance approval, it shouldn't be long now before you get a surgery date, provided you've been cleared by Dr. Sabapathy's office. I'm planning on being at the support group meeting Thursday night, so hope to see you there.

Hello Everyone
Scott, congratulations on your weightloss to date, that is fantastic. I'm just over 4 months post op and have lost approximately 40 lbs since surgery plus 20 lbs pre-op and I too feel much better. The lapband has been the best thing that I've done for myself in a very long time. Keep up the good work, the head hunger thing can be a bad thing, as I know it is for me at times too, but if you have a phschologist you can see from time to time, that might help with your head hunger. Even after 4 months for me, I still have head hunger at times, but I do believe it's getting easier. Just remember, if you're hungry eat, if you're not really hungry, drink water or find something else to occupy your time til that head hunger goes away.

Hi Erika, well just found out that DH has to work on Thursday, so I might make it to the meeting Thursday nite after all. We're planning on leaving Friday morning when he gets home, so if I can have everything ready before meeting time on Thursday, I'll try to make the meeting. I'll look for you if I am able to make it. I'm working til 1:00 that day and have an appt with Erin @ Dr. Sabapathy's office @ 3:00 so hopefully, I can get most everything pulled together by then.

Erika, my DH and I just decided yesterday to leave for our 2 1/2 week vacation a couple of days early so now we're planning on leaving Wednesday, so it appears I'll be missing this month's meeting Thursday nite as well, so hopefully, I'll see you there next month. We've decided to take the RV to Branson for a couple of days and then head to Florida for 2 weeks in the sun. I can't wait and wish I were there now!!! I'm just hoping that I can maintain my weight while being gone. I love having all this vacation time but it's not helping my weightloss any!!

Lisa, great news your inching your way closer to surgery. I know the waiting is hard, but it's worth it in the end. I hope to see you and Erika at the meeting on June 26 also. I missed the last one due to being out of town on vacation. This one comes 1 day before leaving for our next vacation and I need to come to keep myself motivated.

When To Go Back To Work
I took off 2 1/2 weeks but after 1 week I think I could have returned to my desk job, HOWEVER, I was extremely tired the entire 2 1/2 weeks that I was off, doctor said it was because I had limited food calories going in, but 1 week should be good if you aren't too tired.

It Figures......
I live in the Kansas City area too Susan and my surgeon's office also called me to reschedule my surgery earlier, however, mine only called 2 days in advance. Luckily, I was only supposed to be on the pre-op diet 2 days anyway so I had time to do my 2 day pre-op diet before surgery, so I'd say if you get the opportunity again for surgery 1 week or less earlier than you're scheduled for now, go for it. Have fun on your vacation. I was just banded 3/19 of this year and love my band.
