  1. I am only 3 weeks post-op, and I can only handle yogurt (4oz), Protein shakes (sip throughout day), cup of soup (about 2/3 cup), and once I ate 1 grilled chicken strip. If I try anything else, it does not stay down. Some people have said refried Beans were good, I tried yesterday and it was miserable. I know I have to be patient, it is getting hard. I agree that eating out is near impossible. I have had to excuse myself and get sick in the bathroom. It is not how I pictured my post op life to be. However on the good side, I am still losing 5 pounds a week and have not yet changed my exercise routine. I figured once I stall, I will pick up the exercise. I keep reading about those that are 5 1/2 weeks out and eating wonderful things....I can only hope I will be brave enough to try.
  2. Hi Hopefulmom76, I am the same way. I had tremendous nausea after surgery and couldn't hold much of anything down. Now I am two weeks out, and I am getting close to 30g of protein and drinking a lot of water. I can have cup of soup (slowly)and usually don't finish it. I know I am not getting enough calories, but I am trying. Sipping everything slowly helps. I really cannot wait to have real food like I am reading people are enjoying in week 5 out of surgery!
  3. Because I was having a hard time tooting in the hospital, they gave me a suppository ( I know... Yuck) BUT, it cleared my system really well of gassy stuff too...sooo it is definitely worth asking about to make sure all systems are working! I'm glad all of us have gotten through this week and are feeling better and ready to start rockin the weight loss!
  4. Hi All, Well I'm officially sleeved as of Monday! Still in hospital as I write this. My doctor told me I would have gas pain, but he never told me that gas pain would feel like I was giving birth! It hurts like contractions and I cannot take pain meds as I end up vomiting them. Really rough start. Still can't even handle water, and I'm on nausea medicine whenever I want. They gave me suppository for the gas pain to try and help it, and it does feel a bit better today. I'm up and walking every hour. No Problems there. The stitches don't hurt, belly doesn't hurt, just severe gas pain for two days, and a lot of dry heaving. Not fun for sure. Not sure if body didn't like being under or what, but this has been a lot harder than what I was told. Hopefully it will be better today. Amy
  5. I use the Bariatric advantage shakes and I bought vanilla so I could add sugar free jello or crystal light to it to make different flavors...my kids even drink one for breakfast!!
  6. It sounds like you are doing great! My nut is really adamant about getting the water because that's how we get rid of fat!! We "flush" it from our system...I'm so nervous about not getting enough nutrients. That's what everyone has said to me while on pre op diet~ how is this healthy? You are starving yourself...etc. thank you for sharing your month post op and after tomorrow I'll be able to understand more, I'm sure!!
  7. Excuse my ignorance, but what is an IVC filter? I am having surgery June 8th too ( it is tomorrow!!) and I am curious what that is.... Thanks and good luck my sleeve sister!
  8. I have been on protein shakes and veggies for 9 days. The first four days were VERY hard. I had a lot of headaches even though I was drinking tons of water. The headaches subsided day 5 but then I started craving meat (very odd). I wanted chicken and burgers...but I stuck to the prescribed diet and now I'm down twelve pounds and doing fine. On Saturday I switch to clear liquids for 2 days, then surgery Monday!! Yikes!
  9. @@3bzmom I do not have BMI of 40 and the only co morbidity I had was sleep apnea..but I was approved. I think the psychological report from the Bariatric therapist had a lot to do with me getting approved...we all jump through the hoops and hope it's enough...
  10. @@nandjsmom I do not meet the BMI requirements either for surgery, but I am following my doctor's pre op diet of shakes and veggies for 10 days and clear liquids for 2 days before...all high protein, zero carbs, multi vitamin, lots of water. I look at it as training to discipline myself not to grab the quickest thing in fridge...I have to plan, plus I'm losing weight before surgery...less work after!
  11. I'm wondering the same thing. I've told only immediate family. I'm apprehensive about telling people. I feel like this is very personal. But on the other hand, it will also be very noticeable. Not quite sure how to handle questions from people.I was in the same mental state, not really sure who to tell and how to explain the rapid weight loss, and my nutritionist told me that telling people might raise "the stigma" that Im taking "the easy way out", but that pushed me to want to get rid of that stigma. So I started telling people, and talking about the process a bit. If people are going to judge me, I cant stop that, but I can go in knowing that my colleagues and family understand why I am doing it and some have already started supporting me by asking questions about the shakes and if I'm nervous or excited. Some have asked if they can support me through an exercise routine when we return from summer. I don't feel judged, I feel really supported and cared for...what a pleasant surprise!! For those that are teachers, trust your colleagues---throughout the school year we all Celebrate and support each other, why should your personal health decision be any different? I am having the surgery before school is out, because our high deductible insurance plan starts over July 1. I wanted to make sure I didn't have much out of pocket expense. The staff at my school is so supportive and have already been planning end of the year activities so I don't have to scramble to write four days of lesson plans, etc...I was very nervous about telling people, but after seeing my colleagues response, I am very vocal now about my decision and getting as much support as I can!!
  12. I am drinking the Bariatric Advantage Vanilla shake and then I add sugar free/ fat free jello powder to it for different flavors. Its ok, but it is day 4 for me and I am craving a burger or chicken as if I am pregnant again!! Yesterday I had 2 shakes and an entire head of broccoli!
  13. Inspiring!!! Thanks for posting your success! (Oh and I love the pink socks! giggles!)
  14. June 8 is my big day, and I am a mixed bag of emotions. Just out of curiosity, besides talking about it on here, who have you told about your choice?
  15. I have gotten the approval and am scheduled for June 8. I never anticipated that the pre-op diet would be so difficult. I can have 3 protein shakes and veggies. I am suffering from serious headaches and drinking tons of water (70 oz per day). I have 9 more days of this diet and 2 days of clear protein diet before surgery. This is really tough!
