  1. I am 7 weeks post-op RNY. I have been having a lot of mid-back pain since my surgery on July 15. In fact, the night of my surgery I had to keep calling the nurse because I was in so much pain from my back area, more so than the incision areas even. I don't think I noticed the pain as much the first few weeks because I still had liquid pain medication at home to take and to be honest, I took it for other aches and pains besides the incision pain. When I went for my 6-week post-op appointment with the surgeon yesterday I mentioned to him about all of the back pain and asked if it could be something from the surgery. He said that he didn't think it had anything to do with that and I told him that I had been taking Tylenol but it just wasn't cutting it. He asked me if I had seen a chiropractor and I told him no. He suggested that so I made an appointment with one this morning but can't get in until September 10. He also sent a prescription over to the drugstore for Celebrex, but my insurance company is balking at paying it since it would be $833 for the generic for 180 pills (not sure why he ordered 180 - seems like a lot to me). So, I am not able to get that until the insurance and the doctor can resolve this. Apparently he can contact them and explain why I need to have this. I went over to Walgreen's and looked at the Tylenol Arthritis Strength but it is time released and I was told that we can't have time release meds anymore. God, I miss my Ibuprofen!!!!! Any advice on this? I am in so much back pain right now that I can hardly sit in my chair at work. Thanks in advance for any input.
  2. Hi Naomi - I am in no way defending what your surgeon did but am just telling you what my surgeon told me before my surgery. When I went for my pre-surgery appointment with him, he told me that I had to do a 2-week pre-op diet before my surgery. The purpose of it was to shrink the liver since it is right next to where they do the surgery. He explained that if I didn't do a good job on the diet to lose weight, there was a strong possibility that he would have to do an open incision like you had in order to get to all the organs involved. He also mentioned that if he came across any large amounts of scar tissue from a prior gall bladder removal, he might also have to do an open incision. When I signed my consent form at the hospital, it was stated right on the form under procedure "Laparascopic Roux-en-Y - Possibly Open." I'm sorry that this happened to you and hope that you will feel better once you talk to your surgeon. Lisa
  3. After a very lengthy time in the Comprehensive Weight Management Program at my clinic undergoing classes, support groups, doctors appointments, testing, etc., it is finally time for my surgery tomorrow. I am actually surprised at how relaxed and calm I am about it at this point. For the past months, I have been practicing taking small sips, tiny bites, and chewing, chewing, chewing but until I actually do it post-surgery, I don't know what it is actually going to feel like. Just wanted to thank everyone for all of the wonderful advice that I have gotten from reading other member's posts. I've gotten some great information and tips. If you are a spiritual person, please keep me in your thoughts and prayers tomorrow. Thanks!

    Day 3 Pre-op liquid diet

I am also on Day 3 of Pre-Op Diet. Just think how bad and guilty you would feel if you gave in and ate the cake and ice cream. It's not worth it. Hang in there - we can do this!
  5. I was told to always eat before taking multi-vitamins.

    What I have gained...

Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful, inspiring post. I am scheduled for Gastric Bypass surgery on July 15th and will remember the things that you have posted on here to keep me going during my journey. Congratulations on your huge accomplishment!
  7. Kaye21, I say go for it! Thank you for offering to set this up. This will be great!
  8. You got it, ohjul! We will all get through this together!
  9. GottabeME* - sounds great! My doctor hasn't said anything about the gall bladder, but maybe that is because he has noticed in my records that I had mine removed a long time ago. I have heard somewhere that it is routine, but as always, each doctor has their own way of doing things. I go to the NUT on June 30th to get my 2 week pre-op diet. From what I have heard, it consists of the clinic's Protein bars, Protein shakes and a small protein/vegetable dinner. I am somewhat apprehensive but more excited. I know this sounds stupid but I keep thinking, what if the surgery doesn't work and I've gone through all of this for a very small weight loss.
  10. Congratulations, cusoon! That is awesome! Let us know when you get your date. The more the merrier!

I just received my sample pack with the "extras" yesterday and am looking forward to trying it all. Thanks for telling me what the thermometer was for. I was kind of wondering why it was in the box!

    Feast before famine?

I am scheduled for gastric bypass surgery on July 15 and start my pre-op diet July 1. I meet with the dietitian on June 30th to get the diet plan and also instructions for post-op. I really would like to have some food funerals before July 1, but am worried about gaining weight before my appointment with the dietitian. I am going to try to have as many last eats as possible without gaining too much.
  13. Congratulations! I also have a surgery date of July 15. Definitely interested in getting a group of us together who are having surgery the same date.

    July 9-21 Surgery Buddies?

Hey, checkmeowt, I am July 15 too! Very cool to know that someone is going through what I am and will have the procedure done the same day. It will be interesting to see how our hospital adventures compare! I am also having RNY. I am meeting with my nut on June 30, and will begin my pre-op diet on July 1. From what I understand, I will be doing a combination of shakes, bars and 1 small meal a day. They sent me a sample of each bar and shake in advance to try so that I can bring my order with me on the 30th and get my supply. Looking forward to keeping in touch! Good luck!!

I got my date! July 13th!

I just scheduled my Gastric Bypass surgery yesterday for July 15! I am really excited but kind of overwhelmed with all of the changes that will be happening in my life after the surgery. Would love to stay in touch with others that are having their surgeries around this date so that we can all encourage each other.
