  1. I only weigh once a week. Every now and then I will step on the scale mid-week but I try not too. My weight may fluctuate throughout the week but what I don't know won't hurt me. Here are my numbers. High weight - 268 Date of surgery 6-15 weight: 254 1 week PO: 248 2 wk PO: 247 3 wk PO: 243 4 wk PO: 241 1 mo PO 7-15: 239 5 wk PO: 238 I will weigh in the morning to see where I am on week 6. Don't weigh so often. To break myself of the habit I sent my scale to my daughters house for a few weeks.
  2. I've enjoyed reading this thread. All of the different opinions and different eating habits. Just like we all researched and planned before we had surgery, I believe for people like myself who are only a few weeks out, we need to research and plan for maintenance. We should focus on attitude and forming good habits. I am 51. I don't just want to see the success stories, I want to hear about the struggles and difficulty as well. I want to educate myself so I don't make the same mistakes as others. I am very interested in eating a vegan diet. I know it's health benefits. I hope to transition to that through this journey. The hardest habit for me to form is exercise. I am struggling to make it part of my daily routine.
  3. My flight was fine. Not as long as yours as I was traveling to Texas. I did however select a larger front seat when booking because it was closer to the bathroom and just more comfortable.
  4. I used BariatricPal and we just deposited directly to the BariatricPal bank account and Chase Bank. We did make an initial down payment of $500 when we booked the surgery through PayPal. But the balance we just deposited directly to the BariatricPal account. I used Dr Jesus Martin Lopez and have been extremely pleased. I am going back in August with a friend who is also using Dr Lopez.
  5. I am six weeks post op and since my surgery I get cold sweats every time I have something that doesn't set well in my stomach. I don't get nauseas and I don't throw up but I do get cold sweats. Weird I know.
  6. Gnc total lean is all I have used. I buy the vanilla bean, Swiss chocolate, and strawberries and cream. There are other flavors as well.
  7. Did a support group ever get formed for the Abilene area? I am about an hour away but I go there all the time. I would love to participate?
  8. This morning I had a scrambled egg and 1/4 cup fresh strawberries. I am just starting to add in fruit and I'm being very cautious. This is my first time with strawberries (except the occasional Tblsp in oatmeal).
  9. Most things taste the same but nothing smells the same.
  10. My pet peeve.... In a restaurant; Waiter: what can I get you to drink Me: nothing thank you Waiter: so you just want Water? Me: no, nothing thanks Waiter: you don't want anything to drink? Me: no Waiter: are you sure? Me: yep sure Finally my friend intervenes and looks at the waiter sympathetically and says "don't mind her darlin she is just weird. But we love her anyway." Lol
  11. I just started walking last week. I can now walk 1 mile at a time. Right now I am just trying to make it a habit. I am six weeks post op. I walked some before surgery but it was way difficult. I am down 30 pounds since I started pre-op diet. 30 pounds makes a huge difference in being able to walk now. You will get there. Be patient and let your own body be your guide.
  12. Weight charts I have looked at says ideal weight range for men 5'11 is between 160-180.
  13. The book "Engine 2 diet" has lots of great vegan recipes.
  14. I have wanted to get on a vegan diet for years. A good documentary to watch on Netflix is "Forks over Knives" and also "Engine 2 kitchen Rescue". Lots of impressive research and studies have been done proving this healthy way of eating. The only thing that has stopped me over the years is simply learning how to cook all over again. I do hope to transition to this eventually. I would love to know more!!
  15. As a deeper though of which came first chicken/egg..... Is the wear and tear in the hens ass worth the price of eggs in China??
  16. So I'm super curious what everyone is having for Breakfast and what phase they are in and how far out post-op we each are. I would love new ideas, recipes, and products to use. I would also love any comments as to what may be wrong or incorrect about my meals. As for me, here is my breakfast and the nutritional breakdown. I will be six weeks post op on Monday July 27. I started my preop on May 26th and sleeved June 15. Down 31 pounds since start of pre-op 1 pouch of Oat Revolution Steel Cut oatmeal with flax 1 Tblsp of natural honey 1 Tblsp of finely chopped walnuts 1 Tblsp of finely diced strawberries 241 calories 6 gr Protein 40 gr carbs 8 gr fat A few side notes. It will take me two settings to finish this meal. I also use this breakfast to get my carbs in for the day. The rest of my day will be focused on protein! My NUT says I am allowed only honey or agave nectar as a sweetener.
  17. I made arrangements for after care with my primary care provider. Again I don't have insurance so I can't answer that question. I spoke to my surgeon on the phone and they will also Skype with you. I arrived the day before my surgery and my Dr came to see me where I was staying and spent a lot of time talking to me and telling me step by step what he was going to do.
  18. Only good carbs. I don't eat anything white either. No rice, pasta, potatoes or bread. When I was told to add carbs I added oats with a teaspoon of honey. (The only sweetener I am allowed is honey or agave nectar). I can get carbs from Greek yogurt and a few steamed veggies. I also haven't added fruit back.
  19. A friend asked me at lunch today what was the best part about getting the sleeve. I told her knowing that I would never pig out again and also that the 30 pounds I have lost wasn't coming back. It's liberating knowing that if you follow the plan you can't lose!!
  20. Wow I have never heard of that. A new one to me. I'm already done with menopause so I should be good!
  21. I'm sitting in a bar right now waiting on a friend having a glass of water! Speaks volumes about my life right now. Don't cave to what is expected. Do what's best for my health regardless of surroundings even if it involves water in a bar!
  22. Excellent choice!! I was sleeved with Dr Jesus Lopez on June 15th. He did an amazing job and the Sante Fe Clinique where they will perform the surgery is great also. You are in good hands
  23. Hello folks, I was sleeved June 15th. I am down 30 pounds from my high weight. I am getting in all my nutrients and taking in about 700 calories a day. I have not started raw vegetables yet. I'm kind of afraid to. I joined s gym this week because I could not remember to walk. I am officially walking 1 mile a day which is amazing for me! I have not really had any frustrations. Everything has been manageable.
  24. I was originally going to have mine done in Dallas. So here's how that went.... Call and schedule an appointment get one two weeks out. Then get evaluated by staff. They schedule my pre-op blood work for a week away. It takes two weeks for the surgeon to get the results. Surgeons office calls to schedule to finally see a surgeon and the soonest was a month out. I asked the lady once I see the surgeon and he agrees, how long before I get to have the procedure. She says a month to six weeks. I have no co-morbidities. Schedule with BariatricPal. I ask about it, someone sends me a link. I click the link and there are two forms for fill out. I fill out the first and send it. While reading the second form my phone rings. It was David Lopez. Very professional. Very courteous. He answers my barrage of questions. I finish filling out the second form. Within 24 hours the surgeon I want to use calls me and answers my questions and offers to skype with me. I decide to do the procedure, I call David back and I am schedule for 4 weeks out. It could have been sooner but I wanted a few weeks to get off carbs and a few other bad habits. When I was there my experience was amazing! Got picked up at the airport and taken to the recovery house. The doctor came to see me the evening before and answer my questions and explained in detail what would happen. I was taken wherever I needed or wanted to go. The hospital was great. The staff was great. And Dr Jesus Martin Lopez did such an amazing job that I was hardly sore and very little bruising. Oh and I forgot to mention that the nutritionist Skype with me for over an hour before my surgery and set me on the right path for my pre-op diet. The entire staff that I dealt with while I was there included 7 staff, 5 doctors, anesthesiologist and amazing nurses... Karen and Aldo in particular were great!
