  1. I'm excited today because I attended my first information meeting about bariatric surgery at Kiaser. It was informative however I must say a lot of the information I knew because I been researching on this every time a question pops up in my mind. I go tomorrow to my body analysis appointment where they take a picture and weight you prior to beginning the 12 week options program. I can't believe this is all about to get in motion. As a requirement I have to loose 10% of body weight prior to surgery (29lbs) I actually think that will be the most weight I ever lost. Well just wanted to share my journey so far.
  2. Hello I'm praying for you as I type this: Father in the name of Jesus touch this woman right now as she goes into the operating room. Calm every bit of her fears and let her know you are with her even right now. Go to the hospital where she is at and touch her body. Guide the doctors hands as he does the procedure. Give the Doctor the knowledge and ability to handle whatever may arise. But most importantly let this surgery be successful. Let her come out with minimal pain or discomfort. Give your Angels authority to watch over and protect her and everyone who is over her during this surgery, every nurse, aide, assistant and all medical personnel in JESUS NAME AMEN! Your nerves are normal ????
  3. Thanks for the info, hopefully it's the same here since Rancho isn't that far away. I'm going to the information session today so I'll know more afterwards. Thanks again!
  4. congrats to you on surgery glad your coming along well, I'm encouraged by you sharing your experience. Things as small as explaining how you felt satisfied is life changing for me, I'm so excited to be at that stage. I know mine will be well worth it and time will come soon enough.
  5. Thanks for your support, yes I can and will do this! It was just hurtful that I wanted to do something positive and I didn't get support! But I'm encouraged to keep moving forward!
  6. Hello everyone. I've joined this site about 2 days ago and its been a blessing to me. I'm very new to the bariatric surgery journey. I had my physical exam a couple of weeks ago and then my PCP referred me to the Bariatric program here at Kiaser in southern California. I've done researching since the referral on what type of surgery l would benefit most from because I was originally gonna do the band and I decided that without knowing little about it. However upon joining this site and reading others experience and did research on my own I feel I would benefit most from the sleeve. I'm pre diabetic and pre high cholesterol with a BMI OF 41 my mother recently died from heart disease at 57 and afterwards I read her medical charts and all of her sickness was contributed to morbid obesity. Sure she was a large woman I see large woman who lives long lives. Out of my own ignorance I was suddenly woken up and realize I needed to be healthier for my son and myself. I've been so excited that I was gonna embark on this life changing journey (nervous but excited, normal right?) Then I began telling my grandmother about me might wanting to do This and she has been against it from the jump! She just know what she heard......mostly complications which we all know there is some risk which I've come to realize it's worth the risk for a healthier life. I don't wanna start pill popping I want to start doing better now and what more better way. Then I told a friend (one who just judge folks and gossip) she was like "omg I can't believe you doing that I'm scared for you" I explained but not very supportive. I told a family member and they were unsupportive. I originally told my bestie but she work with 2 banders and she often tells of them vomiting during work and one is having complication. My bestie is a good friend, she doesn't think I need it but she said she would support me either way, so she may be the only one who knows. She will accompany me on surgery day. Anyways long story short I have no support I wish I wouldn't have even told them but I decided now to not mention it any more, if they ask I'm gonna have them thinking I'm not getting it anymore because I don't want them in my business if they are non supportive. So I'm blessed to have joined this site you all have been helpful in your own way. Just reading others past and current situation has made all the difference. God bless you all
  7. Hi hopefully someone can help me. I have Kiaser in southern California I'm scheduled for the Options information session on Wednesday. I was reading through the pamphlet they mailed letting you know the requirements to be a candidate for surgery. I see one of them states that you have to had 6 months of a weight management plan within the last 10yrs. Basically meaning it would have had to been documented by a doctor. Well.... I don't have that, I've only attempted various dieting and exercise on my own. Do you know what I can expect to happen if this the situation? Thanks in advance! Ps: I've attached a pic of the paper where the information is stated its #2
  8. Your situation is exactly what I'm currently dealing with, I have zero support from friends or family because they think I don't need it. They don't see the scale when I get on it, they don't know I'm pre diabetes and pre high cholesterol. My BMI IS 41 I've told them that I'm doing this from a healthier life stand point but they just don't get it. So now I've made up in my mind that I'm not telling them no more. I'm just gonna do it alone after all I'm doing it for me anyways. I'll try and get some of the support I need from these forums I guess.
  9. Thanks everyone for your personal experience and advice it's all appreciated
  10. thanks I've been recently doing more research on the sleeve my issue with it is that it's still relatively new and there is not enough long term research on it What are your "long term" concerns? There is actually more long term data about the gastric sleeve than people realize. This procedure was done as part one of a two step procedure for years, and, eventually it was discovered that the success rate with just doing part one was enough that step two (re-routing intestines) was unnecessary. Furthermore people have had to have stomach reduction surgery for various reasons over the years for ulcers and cancer. Long term, people have done fine in terms of health. If your concern is about long term maintenance of weight loss the numbers for the sleeve are pretty competitive to RnY and better than the lap band. For me, the deciding factors included this: 1) the sleeve does not require as extensive surgery as RnY nor the need for supplements due to malabsorption and 2) the sleeve removes the part of the stomach that affects the production of key hormones and metabolic control so that your hunger is reduced and your metabolism can reset. The second factor was very important to me in terms of my ability to maintain the weight loss. I agree with the others. Continue your research and make the choice that best fits you. Good luck! Thank you for your informative response. It's responses like yours that give me a little more insight than what's in the research. So that's why I'm asking, I want to find out as much as I can to make a decision that will ultimately change my life. I'm not sure if I mentioned but I'm just beginning the research and joining message boards so my information is coming from various sources. This weekend alone I've been dedicating my research on the sleeve. I must say I do find it's information and benefits favorable more than the others. I initially thought I'd do the lap band but all the side effects from people's experience is not something I'd like to deal with, not to mention other factors like the longest term weight loss. Thanks for your help
  11. thanks I've been recently doing more research on the sleeve my issue with it is that it's still relatively new and there is not enough long term research on it
  12. I totally agree, that's why I joined this site to find out from everyone else personal experience and then continue to research , etc...
  13. I appreciate your response ok great I look forward to that consultation. I thought maybe I was the only one who hadn't decided which method I was gonna take.
  14. ok great because I think my job may only qualify me for 2 weeks I only been with them 9 months
  15. thanks a lot for your reply, the reason I'm asking is because I'm not sure how long my employer allows considering I been with the company only 9 months even if I wait until after I been with my job a year I'm not sure how long I would qualify for. But I plan to ask my manager this week so I can plan accordingly
  16. Hi, I'm a newbie to this and haven't decided which surgery I will do but I would like to know realistically when you returned to work. I work at a very laid back job. I sit in a booth ( not a very small one) enough to stand up move around and stretch. I'm a cashier during graveyard which my shift is super duper slow. I'm trying to figure out how much time I would need away from work considering I don't work a strenuous job yet more relaxed. I know each surgery varies according to the information I researched already but I need y'all help please. What makes recovery most difficult when returning to work?
  17. I know this question will be redundant for many of you but forgive me. I have researched all 3 but I'm still undecided which route to take. I'm aware is my choice but my question is: which surgery did you choose and were the deciding factor (s) for you? I'm about to schedule my informational meeting through Kiaser in southern California. So prior to me going I'm trying to be as knowledgeable as possible but I do realize how important personal experience is! Thanks and be blessed
