  1. I was sleeved on March 18, 2015 and have lost 30 lbs. I am also a Type 2 diabetic, I was taken off Metformin 2 days before surgery and have not taken it since that date. My A1c was always very high, I was on two types of insulin, long acting & fast acting. I am not taking as much insulin as pre-surgery, but still need to use it every day. My family doctor said that it does take some people longer to come off meds, it seems to be more related to the weight loss. I can definitely relate to the worry of family members having the disease. My father died at age 55 of Type 1 related complications and my brother died at age 54 of Type 2 related complications, along with some other issues. My primary reason for the decision was to hopefully put diabetes in permanent remission! Good luck to all my fellow diabetic sleevers!! Let's kick Type 2 diabetes in the butt!!! 2. My surgery was only 1-1/2 hours, the surgeon said it was one of his easier sleeves. Was in recovery for about 1-1/2 hours.

    New Group

I had my sleeve on March 18, 2015. I have not had any problems so far. I have lost 26 pounds, 6 of that is pre-surgery diet. Have not been able to eat any dense food yet, I just fill up so fast and then I just feel awful! Would love to hear your experience so far.

Diabetics & Protein ?'s, Please Help

I have diabetes and was sleeved on March 18. My family doctor and endoc. both felt that this was a wonderful thing for me to do. It should not affect your liver or kidneys if they are functioning normally according to your bloodwork. My diabetic meds have been reduced and I have been told by doctors that the more weight you lose, the odds are in my favor to totally eliminate all diabetic meds. Hope all goes well!

March 18th the big day - anyone else?

I was also sleeved on March 18! Everything went very well, no complications. Noticing as I come up on 3 week post-op date I am eating some Egg Beaters and non-fat cottage cheese. It is going down fine, but because it is denser I can only eat 2-3 oz. at a time. Be sure to introduce new foods slowly, one at a time!
  6. I was sleeved on March 18 in Pennsylvania. My 2 week pre-op diet was a protein shake for breakfast and lunch. Dinner was a reasonable dinner with protein first. I was also allowed two snacks per day which was Greek Yogurt Lite or protein bar. I lost six pounds on the pre-op diet and to date have lost 22 lbs. It sounds like each doctor or weight loss center has different guidelines.

    Pain when drinking

Yes I had the same problem with swallowing, it did start to subside after a few days. The Gas X strips that disolve on your tongue are great for gas, you will feel so much better when that is out of your system.

    Pennsylvania sleevers?

Was sleeved March 18 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Dr. Boorse. I was very satisfied, surgery went well, very little pain, infact did not take any pain meds when I got home the next day or any days after. I have had no complications, the only issue I had was an allergic reaction to medical glue and something else used on the surgery site. Had a bad rash, very sensitive skin, I usually would take Prednisone to clear it up, but Dr.'s office did not advise using it at this point in time. Thankfully it is almost gone!
