Really worried about my incisions, please respond experienced bandsters
I had been cleaning them with Peroxide and putting some triple antibiotic on them. Seems I was wrong in doing that. From what I read on the incredible internet, peroxide is now thought to be worse than nothing at all. Seems it kills all the cells, even the healthy ones. Who knew?? Anyways, I guess I will just keep washing it with soap and water and putting some ointment on them. Still freaks me out though!

How did you clean them? I have a feeling that all the yuckiness is the surgical glue. I'm having a really hard time getting it out of there! I'm cleaning the incisions with peroxide twice a day, I won't do that anymore after I get a good scab on them but right now its still gunky.

Really worried about my incisions, please respond experienced bandsters
Thanks for your reply Alfie. I know that one of them is infected. I think I will still call the doc on Monday and see what they say. I really think its just a superficial infection, I don't feel bad or have a fever.

Really worried about my incisions, please respond experienced bandsters
I'm really starting to worry about my incisions. My port incision is okay, but all the others that are small are really weird. I literally have 4 holes in my stomach. I don't know if the glue didn't hold them shut like it should have or what. My take home instructions said I could start flaking off the glue on Monday. The first one that I did left a hole, probably only about an eighth of an inch deep but a hole nonetheless. This really worries me that the glue should have held them shut and didn't. I wasn't supposed to put anything on them for 2 weeks, but I started tonight. I peroxided them and tried to get as much of the glue off as possible then filled them in with antibiotic ointment. They look REALLY GROSS! They have been red ringed since the surgery, but now they are tender and one even has a little discharge that comes out (very little). I went to the doc on tuesday for my follow-up and they told me not to be concerned, but I still am!!! I'm afraid my doc might have screwed up the underlying stitches or something?! Years ago I had an appendectomy and had an infection. They split me back open and made me heal with an open wound. I just treated it the same as I did that wound. Has anyone else had this problem?

Fever Blisters and Cold Sores
I have Valtrex. Problem is they are horse pills. Not too band friendly. I haven't checked with the pharmacist yet to see if its okay to crush them.

Is Anyone Having Trouble Burping??
I think this might be something that we just have to live with. When I went in for my post op follow-up the doc said that the burp was a large volume as compared to the opening of my stomach, so they just can't get through. I do believe him cause I can get tiny burps out I just won't be able to win a contest!!

Are there any other newbies on Clear & Full Liquids
Just hang in there yelsnia. It gets better and for me the pounds melted away during liquids. Not so much now that I'm on full liquids, but its understandable.

Feeling Bad
Okay, let see. I had surgery 9 days ago. I went back to work on Monday. I work 10 hour shifts, I couldn't quite make it for the 10 so I'm gonna work 8's this week. I went to my surgeons office yesterday for my 1 week followup. I was glued so I'm able to pick most of the glue off my incisions. They are all pretty red and a couple of them still hurt a little. I had lost 15 pounds since surgery when they weighed me at the doc yesterday. I'm still having cramping in my chest area. My port area still hurts like a mother especially when I sneeze. I need to burp all the time, but can't (only teeny, tiny burps come out). Overall I feel great, I think that I made the right decision. I have no regrets. Oh and I would mind if I never had to drink broth again:biggrin:

Wonton soup from a Chinese place. Just remove the wontons and anything else they might throw in there.

Loving the mushies!
I went to O'Charleys last night and had some of their potato soup. I'm sure that it wasn't very good in the calories dept, but I only had about 8 tablespoons. I thought I was going to have to change my draws!!!

Was Everyone Given Antibiotics Post-Op? If So...
My antibiotics were given to me through my IV at the surgery center. They started the bag before me surgery and my IV was removed about 4 hours later. I did not go home with any antibiotics and have not experienced any infection so far.

BTW my dh and I ventured out to O'Charley's last night so I could get some potato soup. I know, I know its probably loaded with calories, but I only had about 8 tablespoons and was full. I didn't eat any of the bacon or any of the chunks (I'm in full liquids right now). It was AWESOME!!! BTW I'm not trying to rub it in or anything just trying to help with ideas:smile:

Fever Blisters and Cold Sores
I got a blister the day after surgery. Probably from them taping the breathing tube to my lip or something. I'm sure its just the stress. I don't believe that mine has anything to do with the band.

Port Incision Draing Blood
I also have had absolutely no drainage from my incisions. I just have surgical glue which I can start removing today. I would definately call your surgeon ASAP!

Are there any other newbies on Clear & Full Liquids
I'm on full liquids now. Here's what I've had today 4 oz Peach soy baby yogurt- Breakfast fat free sugar free chocolate pudding cup-snack Optima Slim Fast shake (about 1/2's all I could stomach)- lunch full fat full sugar butterscotch pudding cup-snack This part is so much better for me than the broth. If I never have to have any broth for the rest of my life, I will be okay!! I thought I was going to die. I was absolutely starving, in fact I woke up from surgery hungry.

had my first "stuck" experience today...
I'm so glad I stumbled across this thread! I'm still in the full liquid stage, but I already know that I'm gonna have problems in this area, I constantly eat too fast! If I hadn't of read this my first instinct would have been to take a drink!! Thanks so much for the wonderful info!

Tues. Jan 15, day after tomorrow, advise?
My doc was a little different, I had to be on a clear liquid diet for 24 hours prior to surgery. I was told that it was to lessen nausea after surgery. BTW I'm 1 week out from surgery and haven't been nauseous the first time!

B-Man I'm having the same problem as you, I feel like I need to burp all the time and I can't, I just end up swallowing air and it hurts even more!!

Feeling Bad
Thats funny ash, I think I was too, I wasn't as tough as you though, I took liquid Tylenol. I have hives pretty much all the time and when they woke me up from surgery I guess I turned into one big hive! They were pretty concerned but when I came around I was like, oh no it happens all the time, just call me polka dot girl!!! Anyways when I got home and started taking the liquid Lortab my hives were consistenly getting worse. I was taking Flinstones, Lortab, and arnica montana so I started leaving them off one at a time and my best guess is that it was the pain meds!
