    New here.

Hello! I thought I would introduce myself to the group. My name is Hanna and I'm 23. I am at the beginning stage of surgery. Just mailed in my paperwork. I live in st charles mo. I have blue cross blue shield of Illinois so If anyone has any tips for them I'm all ears. I've tried this process before in the diet stage and always got sidetracked. But this year I am motivated to get the surgery and be healthy. Looking for friends to chat with who understand the struggle of this process. Thank you for listening! Can't wait to make some friends
  2. I am 1 week out from surgery and I have been crying all the time. I'm going through a lot of personal stress right now and the added stress of not being able to eat and recuperating from surgery is weighing on me. Anyone else experiencing post surgery anxiety and depression? If so how did you handle it ?
  3. Hello ladies and gents. My name is Hanna and I'm 23. I live in st charles mo and I am at the starting line. I have tried this roofers once before but got caught up and side tracked with the supervised diet. I could really use a friend/mentor to help me with this process. I know my family really wants me to have the surgery and I do not want to let them down again. Anyone who wants to be friends and encourage each other? I'd love to talk to veterans and newbies alike.
  4. I have had my psych evaluation, nut consult and surgical consult. I am now waiting on insurance approval. I am not a patient lady! How long does bcbs of il take to approve? ????????????????????????????

    BMI 31-32

That's the worst. When people think you're pregnant. Or worse, when kids point to you and say she's big or she's pregnant or something like that. I wish I would have gotten my weight under control when I was like 230 lbs. now I'm up to 330 and I have a long journey ahead of me. I think you ladies are smart to get going km this before you are morbidly obese. I am lucky I have no health problems and I am getting the surgery I just wish I didn't have so much to lose.

I haven't personally. Most insurances won't cover lower than Bmi of 35 even with comorbidities. You are a lucky lady!
  11. I am so excited! I finally have everything scheduled that I need ringer approved for surgery. All appointments will be done by April 10th. It seems so far away from now. I have some questions though. I have a psych eval and I'm wondering if having depression and anxiety wood be a reason for the psych not to clear me. I have a therapist and I'm on medicine for it. I just want to know if I should lie about it so I can make sure I'm approved. Did anyone do fmla to get time off for surgery? If you did hoe difficult was the process? Right now I only have 40 hours of paid time off to use. Does this surgery qualify for fmla? Thanks for reading! I love the support we give each other on here.
  12. Hello! I am pre op and I'm wondering if exercising before the surgery helps with quicker healing? Does it become easier to exercise after surgery if you started it before surgery? How long after surgery ( I'm getting rny) can you start exercising? And how much of a role does exercising/ weight training help with the excess skin. Thanks!

    Exercise question

So i have my nutrition appt March 24. Psych eval March 31 and surgical consult April 10. So I was hoping late April or early May. It will probably early May because of insurance approval and availability of the surgeon. I'm so excited. My sister and I are actually doing this together and my other sister had bypass 8 years ago. I'm 23 and my sister is 25. It's going to be a whole new life.

    Time off

I am preop pursuing gastric bypass. Right now I only have a week of pto to take off for surgery. I haven't been at the company for at least a year so I don't qualify for fmla. Just wondering if you all think a week is enough time off ? I would have 9 days off ( including day of surgery).

    Exercise question

Thanks! Good luck to you too. I actually surprised myself and I could walk 1 mile without getting winded. Now to get up to being able to go for 45 mins!

    Time off

Thanks everyone! I work a desk job so I'm hopeful that will be enough time.
  17. That is great advice. I would have never thought to talk after care.
  18. I'm scared of failing. I'm scared I will fall back into old habits. I'm scared I won't have the self control I need. I'm still preop and trying to change my ways as much as I can now. I have stopped snack foods and soda so it's a start. Food has always been my comfort so it's scary not to have my security blanket
  19. Congrats on your progress so far! From what I've read/seen on forums, Facebook, and YouTube a lot of people have problems getting in the protein. You are not alone!
  20. I think that you are probably going to meet people who think it was the easy way out. Those people are not educated in the lifestyle changes that weight loss surgery requires. I wouldn't worry too much about what other people think though. This is your time to shine and get your weight under control. Who cares what those other people think? I think it is a personal choice on who you tell. I've only told family ( im preop) and plan to keep it that way until after the surgery. After the surgery i think I will feel comfortable telling friends and coworkers. It is your choice and whatever you choose is okay. If you want to tell people your rapid weight loss is you kicking butt in the gym and dieting go right on ahead. You make a choice that makes you comfortable. You are not required to explain your life to others. Especially if those others care more about judging your choice then cheering you on.

  23. Hey congrats on taking such a big step. I'm 23 myself and have been overweight my whole life. I am blessed not to have and medical complications though. I am in the beginning stages myself. Waiting for a surgical consult now. I'd love to have surgery buddies closer to my age

What activities are you looking forward to doing?

Warning lady posting in the men's room....... ???????????? Anyways. I am preop and here is a short list of what I am looking forward to. - fitting in restaurant booths ( how embarrassing is it to always have to request a table and praying they have one ?) - being able to fly without seat belt extender and spilling into the next seat. - not feeling so harshly judged by everyone. Getting the stares, snickers and whispers. - never ever thinking "oh this guy will not like me because of my size" - being able to go to theme parks and ride all the rides without worrying if I will fit. - buying clothes wherever I want. Right now there's only 2 stores I can shop at. I want variety, darnit. - wearing a swimsuit in public. - being able to do athletic activities 5k's, walking through the park, playing in adult softball/volleyball leagues. - for my family to stop worrying about me - to get pregnant one day. - of course I'm hoping sex will be much better when im thinner and I can do things I can't do know. - to never be told im pretty for a big girl or have a pretty face. This list could go on and on and on.
