  1. I agree! I have seen a lot this week! I report them every time I see them, but not sure it helps much. They seem to keep coming back. Not sure how the board can avoid them though but you would think people honestly have better things to do with their lives!
  2. Thanks everyone! This helps. I can easily ignore the wrong advice from trainer. That doesn't bother me. And honestly while I am sore today, I am not where I cannot move at all which is what I was expecting. The fact is I am actually fairly strong (from having carried so much weight I suppose) but I am certainly "afraid" of what I can and cannot do. While working out I kept picturing those poor people on those TV shows where they work out like 4 hours a day (Extreme Weightloss (?) and Biggest Losers) and one thing I kept picturing was how some of the trainers are very encouraging and getting people to not give up. I always think that maybe they are pushing too hard and then sometimes I see the person just needed the pushing. I know my limits. (I have had rehab on my shoulders too many times to count so I know how to protect myself for the most part.) When I felt I couldn't go any further, I just stopped and she was really fine with that. (I wouldn't work well with those that would yell at me....) So, I think she might actually be good for me in some ways to get me to push myself without just giving up and saying "I can't do it!" I will just have to find the balance between challenging myself and not pushing too far. @@Inner Surfer Girl - Can we have oatmeal? I am actually not a fan, but she mentioned putting a little in my Protein shake? I will ask the NUT to be sure, but just thought I would ask how you use it since you mentioned it. I have never had quinoa but I know it also has protein and my NUT has mentioned it before. Maybe I will try that for dinner with some roasted butternut squash and a meat of some kind. Is it normal to be afraid at this point to add back in carbs when I have been so focused on protein?? @ - a half marathon??!! That's amazing!! Congrats! I appreciate your advice and promise I will watch it carefully and make her back off if it isn't working.
  3. Try drinking from a cup with a lid on it so you don't smell it. That helps me anyway because it keeps me from smelling it
  4. Yep totally normal and totally irritating. I notice mine more when reflux is more active or had. Try some gas-X and make sure you are taking PPI.
  5. Try premier protein ready to drink shakes
  6. I am 4 months post-op and finally got serious about exercise today by meeting with a trainer and setting up some appointments. It was a tough workout of things like kettleballs and using body as resistence, etc. and even put me on a 15 incline (max on the treadmill) and asked me to do that for 10 minutes. Um, no. Have you seen me? Clearly she missed the part where I was a beginner and she definitley didn't understand anything about the bypass. Did my weight, body fat, etc. and said I should be eating 2500 calories a day and again, nope. I am not going to follow that bit of advice obviously, BUT I do know I am going to have to get more than the 700 calories and 30 g carbs per day (thats total carb not net). Where I get very confused (and I feel like I have kind of posted similar to this in the past) is what does "good carb" really mean and how do we accomplish that without pushing calories too high? Oh and the only time I could meet with her was 7 a.m. She said I have to eat or at least have a shake first, but I have to take Synthroid in the mornings and wait an hour for food (which a shake counts as). She suggested half an apple and some Peanut Butter to be followed by a shake after the workout but that means I am going to have to get up at 5:30 to take the med, wait an hour and then have time to eat half an apple which is not something I can just scarf down quickly (not that I can scarf anything down quickly really). PS I really HATE getting up that early... I know I am overthinking this a little. I have a call in to my NUT to get her to sort it out for me, but I wanted to check in here and get your ideas. I still feel like I cannot eat much volume at once, so the thought of eating say brown rice and it swelling in my stomach does not sound fun at all. How do we get sufficient Protein AND sufficient good carbs at this stage? Or more importantly, enough of those so I don't get dizzy and faint when I am working out. (No worries, I didn't faint today but I did get pretty dizzy a few times.) .
  7. Search for the 3 week stall in the forums. It is a VERY common occurrence. Just stick to your program and stay off the scale if you need to.
  8. Everyone's program is different, so you have to wait and see what your doctor says. I had Clear liquids a few days, then full liquids and was released to "soft foods" at 15 days post-op to last until 6 weeks post-op which dr said was anything I could mash with my tongue. I chose to do pureeds for the first couple of weeks and then tried to transition to soft meats like tuna and tilapia but it did not work for me. I had to stay with pureeds for quite a while. When is your surgery? You will need to definitely keep touching base with a NUT to have a plan to go on a vacation in December.
  9. The first five days are the hardest. It does get easier. Please do not try to eat meat yet. (Not saying you were going to but just offering a safety warning just in case.) Your stomach is healing and it just isn't ready. Take your pain med if you have pain. This is not the time to be a hero. Try an ice pack or heating pad on your stomach. It is comforting and does help. Above all, know that what you are feeling is totally normal. I think every one of us went through it. You just have to get through the first couple of weeks and then things ease up.
  10. Congrats!! Great advice @@Ashlegal!!
  11. Ok, this one is actually kind of funny. Went to get my haircut today. My hair guy knows about the surgery (I have told everyone) and I see him every 5 weeks. today he said "You really look different. I mean you look attractive." Umm, thanks? He went on to stumble over himself and say "not that you weren't attractive before, I just mean, um uh..." It was pretty funny....
  12. You could try Fairlife Skim milk. Or maybe try some unflavored protien powder in Soups or juice or I even mix vanilla Protein powder (about 1/2 scoop) into 1/2 container of greek yogurt. That helps. But mostly I have to tell you that you may just have to keep experimenting until you can find one you like. Your tastes sometimes change, so you have to keep trying. Some good suggestions are Premier Protein (chocolate, vanilla or berry). Try putting some Torani sugar free flavored syrups into the vanilla one to see if you can find a taste combo you like. Or I use Precision Engineered whey Protein Isolate (Chocolate and Vanilla) which I really like and I add in a little PB2. keep trying...
  13. FYI losing ANY weight (especially 4 pounds in a week) is not a stall. A stall is NO weight loss for at least a week and more typically defined as no loss for 2 weeks.
  14. I am so sorry this is happening! You are on the right track with an appeal and an attorney. Good luck! Hang in there! Hugs!
  15. @@Dub I took 2 1/2 weeks and wished I had taken at least 3 (though I did work from home most of that time) and I didn't have the hernia repairs. Remember it is not just pain or exhaustion, it is getting used to your new way of life - sipping, shakes, eating tiny amounts, walking, etc. I have no idea how these people go back after a few days but more power to them or maybe they just don't have a choice. No need to be a hero if you can get the time off. I would plan at least 3 weeks. If you can get 4 without hassle, I would ask for that and you can always go back early if you are feeling up to it.
  16. OK not sure this is really bucket list but I thought of 2 more things I cannot wait for - 1) my shirts to be small enough to stop slipping off the dang hangers because the neck is too big and 2) to be able to wear heels. It's not that my feet don't fit. It's just that those shoes aren't built to hold so much weight so they get a bit wobbly. Can't wait for non-wobbly high heels! ????. #fatgirlproblems
  17. Some of us'll are lucky folks. I have vomited more in the last 4 months than in my whole life combined! No exaggeration. Of course it turned out mostly to be a stricture and I successfully went 5 weeks without vomiting until last Friday after first try at salmon. Not sure what went wrong but I will definitely NOT be trying salmon again anytime soon.... ????
  18. @@James Marusek - Thanks for posting this. I think your statement about things changing at 1 year post-op makes a lot of sense and I hadn't thought about it before but it just hit me that of course that makes sense! I had rotator cuff surgery 5 years ago and my shoulder hurt for nearly a year and then like magic, I was back to normal. So it makes sense to me that my stomach and intestines would also "heal" fully around a year out. I don't know why this gives me such comfort but it does! You always have such great practical and logical advice. I so appreciate you! Apologies to @@Ashlegal for hijacking your post! I understand your frustration but there are quite a few people on here who talk about "clean" eating, so I do think you will be able to get back to that stage eventually. You just have to make some sacrifices in the meantime while your body heals.
  19. It drives me crazy still! It actually woke me up in the middle of the night what time! Scared the heck out of me!
  20. Someone told you wrong about fluids. Powerade Zero, propel water, etc DO count as fluids. As long as you are getting 64 oz of that, you are fine. In fact at your point, I think I was only getting 50 - 55 oz. If you are trying to drink those things plus 64oz of water, no wonder you are frustrated.
  21. @@gpmed - Glad it helped! I had a few food dreams too! Wake up scared to death I ate potato chips and drank a soda! Oh and once you get to solid food, the Protein gets a lot easier too, but again I just asked my NUT maybe 2 weeks ago, if it is was ok for me to still be drinking 2 shakes a day if I needed to get to my goal and she said absolutely and as long as I was still getting some protein with my food and not a lot of carbs.
  22. @@gpmed - I did find the 30/30 rule very overwhelming in the beginning but it does get easier. I did not follow it with shakes (per my NUT) though she did tell me to not mix the two. in other words, just drink your shake and then when you are done, have other liquids. Eventually I settled on not necessarily waiting 30 minutes after drinking before I ate. I always wait at least 15 minutes and sometime it is 30, but that one rule particularly overwhelmed me. (I am not saying do what I do, but that did help me relax.) I set a timer for 30 minutes on my phone after I finish eating and don't drink until the timer goes off, so I do stick with that rule. I probably only eat 3 to 4 times per day and have 1 shake per day. It is what works for me and I am able to get my Protein to at least 80 grams that way. I use Premier Protein ready to drink shakes or Precision Engineered powder both of which have 30 grams of protein so that helps a lot. (By the way, if you haven't read this yet - your body only absorbs 25g to 30g per hour so it won't do any good to add a bunch of protein or drink one of those protein shots.) If you can add unflavored Protein Powder to any of your food, that helps too (though I don't do that much anymore). If you like milk, you can also drink some skim milk in between meals which will get you fluids and protein at the same time. (Try Fairlife milk if you haven't. It is very good with more protein and less carbs.) I can promise your NUT nor surgeon expect you to get to your protein goals every day at this point. It will come in time. Just keep focusing on it. Hope that helps a little. I have only recently sort of settled in to not being so overwhelmed with the rules so don't feel bad.
  23. I prefer Quest for what you get. I like Premier Protein but they are pretty high calorie and carb. http://shop.premierprotein.com/Premier-Protein-Dark-Chocolate-Mint-Bar--30g/p/PREM-000563&c=PremierProtein@Bars
  24. I had a hard time at that point all the way through 3 months when they finally figured out I had a stricture. Are you able to keep food and liquids down?
