Bad news and decision
You will need to to be able to consume and absorb all the nutrients and medications necessary for healing your ee. You needd to discuss with your WLS if this is optimal after WLS.

Post Op Visits- How Frequent?
My first post op visit with my surgeon is Thursday 2 weeks since my sleeve. Curious- how often if ever will I be following up with him again?
-
How soon after surgery will they let you have ice chips or water?
I had horrible pain when I got home. It seemed like I was the only one willing to admit it. I have a really high pain threshold normally and this was unfathomable pain. But - and here's the good news! It gets MUCH better each day and now it is just discomfort - pressure.

allways hungry
Yes only a week out and feel like other than residual surgical pain and the money it cost me the surgery did nothing. I'm hungry. Not head hunger. I don't like sweets. I hate milk products. No more protein shakes please. I want a nice salad. I was losing weight really well, now nothing. My rationale for the surgery was historically gaining it back. Now I just want a greek salad with fat free dressing and to return to losing 5 pounds a week.

No weight loss
@@mandyq1985 I feel for you. I hope you lose really soon so you can see some results for your suffering. I had my surgery 6 days ago. I came home from the hospital 3 pounds lighter and it's ben up and down but no more weight loss. I know it's onl been 6 days blah blah blah but I am tired of eternal positivity. The surgery was excruciatingly painful. I' m the ONLY one - right? And I want results I couldnt get without the surgery or I woulnt have had it! I'm a realist!!

1day post op
Are you on a PCA pain pump? When I wan on mine I was doing laps and laughing and home in 24 hours. I hope it will be perfect for you but for me it is excruciating, pain I did not know existed. I am an RN with a high pain threshold which has been tested multiple times. This is like being ripped apart.

What were the results of your EKG? If she was super concerned she probably would have sent you for your stress test as a stat order so that is a good sign. (retired RN)

Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)
@defibvt@dsmith_rn Thank you both! Nervous right now, just want it over! I am a retired RN myself and I think I am dreading being in the hospital with all the disgusting germs almost as much as I am the surgery lol! My fellow nurses will know what I mean when I say that I hope my room got a good terminal clean before I roll in!

Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)
Hahaha @@samuelsmom ! I have had to eat my dinner at the nurses station out of necessity almost every night I worked! And I was the RN House Manager of a 195 bed hospital lol. I have had hard nosed supervisors in the past though. That's when you call your sister unit unit with " they're on they're way"! Suprise attack! - bummer.

Struggling 15 day liquid diet
Thank you for your support and well wishes. Sometimes I think what the OP which was not me is looking for is comraderie. There are so many people who struggle with the preop diet and for every person who posts there are others who afraid of being judged when all they want to hear us "I felt that way and I succeeded ".

Struggling 15 day liquid diet
Yes while I have not been able to maintain the Clear Liquids for 2 weeks - it has triggered my severe migraines with aura which cause blindness in my right eye and caused electrolyte changes which which showed up as irregularities on my EKG I have stuck to a high Protein, low carb diet and have lost 39 pounds preop. I also go to the gym 1 hour each day Commitment is not the issue with the preop diet for most people I have read on this site. It is the feeling ill. As a registered nurse who has taken care of many Bariatric clients post op and many years later with post surgical complications I have my eves open wide. You can't make blanket statements. Each person is an individual. The preop diet should be individualized.

Struggling 15 day liquid diet
Also many surgeons do not require liquids entirely. I am going to speak with mine about moderation. So far I have only been allowed to speak with the office dietitian.

Struggling 15 day liquid diet
@@CanyonBaby I understand what you are saying completely. That is why I cancelled my surgery and am reconsulting with my surgeon. However I do not believe that there is a strong correlation between success on the preop diet and post op success. The inability to lose weight on structured diet programs over a period of at least 2 years is what led to my insurance approval. This is why I sought out the sleeve. After the removal of 80% of my stomach and most of my hunger hormone I am supposed to have the tools for greater success.

Struggling 15 day liquid diet
Yes my surgeon is the same way. I made it 12 days only liquids and felt so sick I cancelled my surgery on March 30. I am seeing my MD this Thursday 4/16 and only made it 5 days on all liquids. I have lost 40 pounds. if i lose 5 more my BMI will be too low for my insurance. But I am finding it hard to stay on my diet so I believe I need the sleeve. It is a super hard decision. @@bella7984

Any suggestions on what type of surgery I can say I am having at work?
@@Janex43 I'm going with hiatal hernia repair. That way I'm not lying. My doctor plays to repair a hiatal hernia if he finds one as I have severe GERD. he may also take out my gallbladder so ifthat occurs I will also say I had that done too

Ways to switch up the pre op diet!
How is anyone losing weight drinking these high sodium broths?! I looooove my salt but have had to give it up. Only no salt or 50% less salt broth for me (Preop Diet Day 7)

Keeping Busy
Today Is Day 6 for me. No Turning Point yet. I can't sleep been up all night. Miserable. Not hungry, just highly agitated, weak and sickened by everything I have to consume. I am not a sweets eater and I am so sick of cold sweet foods! Low Sodium Broth is all I have but even that has 430 mg of sodium and I retain fluid so not supposed to eat high sodium foods. Also allergic to iodine and something's breaking me out! Sea salt? Can't have that. Or is it the soy in all these protein shakes?

March Sleevers
I have not done this for 2 months while dieting but this preop diet is sending me over the edge! Also I know I can never have this again after I am sleeved! -March 30th.
