  1. Where did you see that? I ordered the Bariatric hair and skin vitamin formula from my Dr. Is that supposed to be used in addition to what you're currently doing? Like as an extra boost?
  2. You're brave. Taking it in stride it seems. Hope your recovery goes well!!
  3. Right on Lindsey!!! How amazing for you. It will be wonderful for you to start your marriage on a positive path of self discovery and change. I have been married to my handsome hubby for 24 years. He has seen to me at every weight... and put up with the suffering and complaining and God bless him he's stuck with me. I can't go to bed until I finish my water...LOL My date is March 23rd at OCC in Tijuana. On Atkins till March 1, then on to the liquid diet. I have 7 weeks of preparation both mental as well as physical. I want so much for this to work. Just in the last 2 years have I really noticed my weight affecting my health. So for me this is no longer about vanity as much as it is comfort and health. Always before it was strictly about looking better. Maybe this time I'll have the magic formula and better motivation.
  4. Hi guys and dolls! I will be sleeved March 23rd in Tijuana at the OCC. Currently I am doing Atkins until three weeks out, then shifting to their liquid regimen. I basically have to lose the required 10% by my surgery date. It would be great to connect with someone at the same juncture of the journey. I am 41 5'9 294lbs.
  5. Definitely share Andrea! I'm scheduled with Dr. Ortiz for March 23rd. I'm super excited!
  6. I am going solo too..."that which does not kill us" hope I meet some buddies there to join for a walk or something.
  7. I got my surgery date. March 23rd with Dr. Ortiz. Need to lose 16-30 lbs by then. Anyone else getting started with pre op diet?
  8. Hahaha I don't know...haven't started it yet. I guess because I'm so large...in order to shrink my liver.
  9. I was told clear liquids for 14 days prior.
  10. My husband can't take off work to accompany me and I don't really have anyone else except for my 24 year old son. I feel odd asking him to fly to Mexico with me though I know he would. So who's going with you all?
  11. We are conditioned to believe...calorie in, calorie out. Eat less, exercise more. We don't need any tools.
  12. Elle...just filled out the initial paperwork for Dr. Ortiz. Please let us know how your experience goes.
  13. Okay...I find myself looking for similar body types to mine so I can see how you look. Pear shaped. I don't remember what I look like thinner. Anyone carry all of their weight in their hips and thighs...huge thighs.
  14. That is a great idea. I thought perhaps I could persuade him to sit through webinar initially just to give him some general information. He tends to not believe anything I say. If a "doctor" talked about how beneficial WLS could be, maybe I could get his buy-in. As I mentioned above...my insurance has a written exclusion for WLS. I had drawn $15,000 from my 401k last year to bury my mother. I was able to get $11,000 more toward this. He will not allow us to go into debt to come up with the rest in order to self pay. I have been researching Mexico. He freaked out when I mentioned it, though it is a center of excellence. He stopped listening when I said Mexico. I wish it were easier but the reality is that we sometimes have to endure a lot in order to reach our goals.
  15. I will keep preaching...thanks!
  16. Words of wisdom...yes he is uninformed..that is his vantage point. He is just ex military and thinks everyone can be fit if they eat less and exercise. That is true...can't dispute that but some of us need extra tools in order to maintain or be successful.
  17. Thank you. I bet you're really anxious. I know I would be. I actually didn't know about the sleeve until the other day when I went to a seminar. I had researched weight loss surgery probably 10 years ago for about a year and then got discouraged when my insurance didn't cover it. Heck my insurance still doesn't cover weight loss surgery but I was able to draw a little bit of money out of my 401k... Not enough to pay for gastric bypass I would still have to finance a little bit unless I have it done in Mexico. I wish you success and happiness in the future with your sleeve. I truly know what this means.
  18. I am 41 years old. BMI of 49 and a weight loss failure. I have lost over a hundred pounds three times in my life and gained it back plus more through various diets. I always considered myself in fairly good health for being as large as I was... That is up until 2 years ago, when my joints started hurting terribly. Lower back pain, hip pain, shoulder pain... weak ankles and plantar fasciitis. I have been getting cortisone shots for almost 2 years. My husband is not supportive of weight loss surgery.. he thinks it's weak. Anyone else without a support system?
  19. Denied. Written exclusion for all WLS. Employer didn't purchase the rider. :-[
  20. My insurance doesn't pay for any type of weight loss surgery. I don't have $25,000 onhand. I have been researching having it done in Mexico because I could afford that without financing. I finally told my husband and he freaked out. He said I can't have it done there and that I was insane. He is the only family I have. My parents and sister are deceased. I see that there are fully accredited hospitals and physicians there. How bad can it be?
