  1. I still burp FAR more than I'd like, but it's slowly getting better each day. I'm doing much much better than I was at day 4, day 4 was belch-city. It gets better, now at 3.5 wks out, I'd say it's manageable if unpleasant and really, I'm only just barely out.
  2. Had terrible GERD since I was 5. Had the sleeve and hernia repair, GERD is gone so far (only 2 weeks out though)
  3. New favorite, in a little water blenderize 1/4 c of cherries, then add to premier vanilla stirring only with a spoon. AMAZING and keeps the froth to a minimum
  4. Thanks to both of you! @@MoosieGirl, that's where I got into trouble. I was just strolling - preop I was doing 3-4 laps/day at a pretty decent clip, so I figured one meandering lap was perfect Oh, and the pureed chicken was a disaster, 1 tsp in and I was belching a storm and had terrible stomach pain. Since then, cottage cheese has been a huge success
  5. So far so good (mostly) Day 0: YAY! I FINALLY GOT SLEEVED! Too bad my IV blew out, but if this is my biggest complication, I can't complain Day 1: I managed to get in 52 g of Protein and 67 oz of Fluid but... Day 2: Nausea unlike anything I've ever experienced. It took emend, zophran, scop-patch AND phenergan just to let me breathe properly Day 3: Felt much better, met protein and fluids goals. Stopped the hydromorphone Day 4: Took 1/2 mile walk and felt pretty good. Day 5: Took a 1.7 mile walk and felt even better, but gassy as all getout Day 6: See day 5 Day 7: Went in for a 5-hour job interview/shadow. The interviewer had to leave 5 minutes in as an emergency came up(the joys of working in schools) but I learned a great deal about the position and enjoyed myself Day 8: First post-op appointment - this is the part where it didn't go so well. Turns out that, as my doctor put it: "You're WAY overdoing it. None of our patients even tries to walk as much as you have or do a 5-hour anything at this point. I get that you're freakishly healthy for your weight and that it felt good, but no. Don't. Stop. No more than 1/8 mile at a time for the next 4 weeks. But great job on your fluid and protein." I'm SO disappointed. I live in the woods on a lake so I can enjoy the world I live in. I live for my time around the lake and to give it up, even for this short time, is harder (for now) than giving up all the foods-centered time I'm glad to be rid of. But I know he's right and that I need to focus on healing and letting my body not run a GARGANTUAN calorie deficit, only a large one. On the bright side, I managed to eat 1/4 c of applesauce, 1/4 cup of FF homemade 'refried' Beans with Protein powder added, and am going to try 1/4 c of blended chicken salad shortly. So far no problems. YUM! I will say though, the applesauce felt weirdly huge in my mouth after fluids all week. Oh, and my weight loss so far is totally excellent! I can absolutely tell a difference between my 3-weeks prior photo and my 1-week post photo. Like, huge.
  6. Congrats Katie, keep up the good work! And I hear you regarding some of the challenges getting shakes down, but you're doing this for all the right reasons.
  7. Thank you thank you thank you!
  8. I sleeved with you on the same day at noon. PM me with any questions and I'll do what I can to help. On a side note, as much as I love my sleeve, changing day-of on you like that might well count as malpractice by your Doc. 100% skeevy.
  9. The unjury chicken broth is fantastic. And to spice up without oversweetening my premier shakes I've used a variety of extracts (lemon chocolate and chocolate mint are the best).
  10. I'm on day 6 post-op and am still a fountain of gas. I belch uncontrollably every few minutes and when I go to have a BM it's practically a wind-storm beneath me. I'm not in any real pain, but being so full of gas is nauseating and very uncomfortable. I've been walk walk walking (1.7 mi yesterday, aiming for 2 of those today) and getting all of my fluids/proteins in, but still I cannot stop spouting gas. Does this ever go away?
  11. 26 and only wish I'd done it sooner.
  12. I think the answer is no, but I'd like to get thoughts from folks. I'm 3 days post-op and on full liquid protein at the moment. On my list of approved foods are things like: protein shakes, jello, pudding, etc. I found this awesome bariatric protein recipe site and was SO EXCITED to try the pistachio mint protein shake. Two tsp in it was amazing until I realized that pistachio pudding mix has those itty-bitty chunks of pistachio in it. I stopped right then and moved onto something I know to be completely smooth but I can't help wondering, how at-risk am I from those little chunks I may have consumed?
  13. Thank you all so much. I have ready responses to others' dilemmas matching mine, so I felt silly posting this myself. But your responses and caring support is invaluable. Today I'm doing FAR better.
  14. @@Mikadivalia, MUCH MUCH better. I've already gotten more fluid in in these last 4 hours than I did all day yesterday.
  15. So I've had a hiatal hernia since I can remember, I think it was officially diagnosed when I was 5 and for the rest of my life I've been on omeperazole to keep the reflux in check. When I had my sleeve done on Thursday, my Dr. repaired the hernia as well. However, I've read about a lot of folks on the forum who still had signiifcant GERD post-repair. So far though, with no omeperazole since Wednesday I haven't had even a touch of reflux. Does this mean I'm one of the lucky few for whom the repair was entirely successful? Or have some of you out there had the same experience only to have the reflux return once you were off of the liquid diet?
  16. You all have no idea how wonderful it feels on this end too
  17. I'm finally over the panic of possible DVT (totally wasn't) enough to realize that I'm not getting near enough fluids in here on day 2 (or three, depending on whether Sx itself counts as day 1). I sip whenever I can, but as soon as I sip I hard mega-belching for 10-20 minutes. Seems they left more air in there than they thought it it's still seeping back into my digestive tract for expulsion. It makes it near impossible to drink though and is incredibly uncomfortable. Anybody have any tips or tricks for dealing with this? I'm super thirsty, have a great fuzzy-naval Syntrax Protein I'm eager to sip on constantly, but so far every sip is near debilitating with all the gas. Or is this another "just wait it out" thing?
  18. @Jazmundo, It's by no means real cake, BUT, with our taste buds a-changin post-op, this smoothy is surprisingly close to the real thing in all but texture. 8 oz cold fat-free milk 1 scoop vanilla Protein powder* 1 tbsp sugar-free instant cheesecake pudding mix, dry ½ tsp cherry extract 3 ice cubes -Blend in blender on high for 45 seconds. -Measure out ¼ cup and serve. Nutrient Analysis: 60.4 calories, 8.4g protein, 6.5g carbohydrate, .2g fat. Though do wait until the stricture is cleared up - poor you! Let us know how we can support you.
  19. @@Bellarose100, Absolutely, you get < about 50-60 g of carbs, depending on your overall mass and energy needs, and your body breaks almost entirely fat rather than fat and glycogen mix. When fats break down it breaks into ketones (those funny-smelling compounds you may or may not remember from o-chem) that we burn rather than the usual glucose. When it's mostly fat breaking down you end up with higher concentrations of ketones, and that we call ketosis. Chances are you'll be in mild ketosis (though likely not detectable with most home tests) until all your EW is gone - this is why exercise is vital - to keep our bodies burning largely ketones to fuel our muscles rather than muscle and fat to fuel our existence. Sorry to nerd out on you, I'm a chem and bio teacher and I love this stuff.
  20. Just back from the ER and, thankfullly, not DVT. Thank goodness for insurance that, even if it wouldn't cover VSG, will absolutely cover today's ER visit. The ER doc, after ultrasound and some bloodwork, is pretty sure that my IV at the surgical center blew out of the vein just partially - not enough to really be noticed, but enough to cause some intense swelling and discomfort in the meantime. I'm to keep an eye on it, but trust that nothing should go awry if I keep to my plan. Thanks for all your support everyone!
  21. I spent the first 30 hours post-op nauseated beyond anything I could even have fathomed pre-op and about wanted to die. Eventually I got some advice from folks here and my Dr. called me in a phenergan suppository to my pharm. Now I'm still nauseous, but only like a 3 on the nausea scale (rather than the 9/10 of twelve hours ago). Now, though, I woke up last night with my right forearmarm is swollen and achey and half-golfball-sized lump right between my bicep and deltoid. My Dr. said to go to ER immediately if my calf got swollen and achy as it means a likely blood clot, but it's my arm instead. I called the on-cal doc around 4 am who said "up to you, either go in now or call me back in the morning." What do you all think?
  22. Thank you all so much. Shortly after my original post, my Dr. gave me phenergan suppositories which, along with cutting my hydromorphone in half has helped a TON. I'm from rouglhy a 9 on the nausea scale to hovering between a 2 and a 3. Still no fun but infinitely better. Now, though, my right arm is swollen and achey. My Dr. said to go to ER immediately if my calf got swollen and achy as it means a likely blood clot, but it's my forearm instead. I called the on-cal doc who said "up to you, either go in now or call me back in the morning." What do you all think?
  23. I'm 27 hours out and having the worst nausea in my life. I'm zophran, ginger water, and a heavy duty nausea-killing supposiyory, but still wishing i could die temporarily until it's gone. anyone else experience this? how long did it last?
  24. See you there, look like you just went under. I'll be going under myself at 12:45 - good luck!
