________________________________________ One thing I didn't say was the doctors say I have IBS. So I take something for that. I'm not sure I have it. I don't have the symptoms that are typical of this syndrome. The medicine I take for Epilepsy causes me to lose Water and that causes me to always be thirsty , plus one other medicine does this to me. My burning pain is most likely caused by the KEPPRA. I almost died from one medicine before Keppra. I had been taking some other medicine for Epilepsy and am now off of it. That plus one for incontinence caused my sodium level to go way to low! This happened just before Katrina came. I was in a semiconscious state. At the hospital is when they switched me to KEPPRA and then the burning pain started. It's a side effect of it I'm sure. They have no idea why I'm Epileptic. I don't have the typical shacking stuff one thinks of with this, I just drop to the floor in a sudden blackout and no worming! It has happened 3 times and I'm glad that is all it has happened. I could stop it my doctor said but I'd have to give up driving and I may have some bad falls! I had one really bad fall and I don't care to experience that again! I really started gaining weight when I turned 50 and was put on blood pressure medicine. It slows your metabolism and also I started menopause. Doing heavy work in the garden causes my knees to go and then it was hard to walk fast. Also I've had some bad falls that didn't help. All for now. Nina

Hi Phyllser, How do you pronounce your name? I'm having trouble with my computer. It is very slow and it's frustrating me. My BMI is 38, I take 9 different prescribed medicines. I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, insomnia, incontinence, chronic pain ( a burning pain in feet, hands and lower back side ), anxiety, Epilepsy, artritus in knees and hips ( just had shots in right knee) this only helped a little bit. I have trouble with hemroids. Had surgery for that but it still hursts there. It's hard to sit long and hard seats no way! I have not slept well for years and lately I'm really tired. Been trying to keep my vegetable garden alive with no rain. It would be the year I started a larger garden. I have a hobby that I love. It is drawing and painting in oils, acyrlics, pastels, and I have some of my art on-line. None for sale though. I'm sure there is more I could say. Thanks for your reply. Don told me your often on here. Kind regards, Nina

Hello People, I'm Don's wife and I am thinking of getting the Lap Band or the Realize (sp?) Band. I plan on going to a seminar on the 23rd here in Jackson MS. This is were my husband had his Realize Band put in by Dr Cleavland. My weight is not as high as Don's when he got to his higihest weight. I weigh around 224 pounds at 5' 51/1 ". I consider my self big boned. My legs and arms are longer than Don's and my feet are big and I have very square shoulders. I know some Doctors don't consider there are small, medium or large framed people but I know there are differences. :-) Nina

    Coffee

"I have never stopped drinking coffee  " My husband Don still drinks coffee. It is half decaf ,half regukar coffee. He drinks very little though. It hasn't bother him. I'd go by how your body feels. Nina

    Coffee

"Like now I eat only dark chicken meat because breasts are too dry. " I think the trick to getting moist chicken brest just right is cooking at lower tempertures and for shorter times. Don't leave the kitchen and keep checking it. I'd cover it also. If you flatten the chicken or butterfly it it will be uniform in thinkmess. That helps to get it just right. I do not like dry and tough chicken brest! :-( Nina
  8. My husband had the realize band on the 28th of October. Maybe he will check this thread out. He weighed in this morning at 249 pounds. His highist weight was 268 pounds. He is still in the full liquid stage. Nina

Don is starting his Phase 2 -Full Liquid Diet. He said he will be doing this for 10 days. I'm shopping today for Don to get a few things he can have , like thinned-down grits, creamed soups, yogurt ( no lumps ), 1% milk, cream of Wheat, and more pep-cycles, ( sugar-free ). I think Don thinks creamed soups means cream, but I have been trying to tell him it's not cream, it soups that are smooth. Please tell me anyone what it means. I think I'm right. Nina Please answer soon! Thanks!

My husband had his surgery on the 28, the same day as yours. He is 66 years old. He has the gas still also. I was thinking I'd give him a rub down. Is lotion ok? In the hospital they said they could not wear any. He is walking some. I don't think he wants to take Gas-X. I hope things will go well for you and everyone here on Lap Band Talk. Nina

Thanks for your helpful words. I admire Don for going through with all this. He is at his PC right now of and on. Been sleeping a lot. He's had no trouble with that. Don still has the gas and feels bloated and uncomfortable. The bandages are making his skin turn red. It's not bothering him though. Tanks again you all for this forum! Nina

Hello All, Yesterday I was so tired I just came home and went to bed. Don is home now. It looks like things are ok but it's still to soon to know for sure. He's had some trouble getting enough clear liquid "food" down because of nausea. Don says if he feels better he'll write tomorrow. He is feeling weak and has pain. He's pain medicine is liquid. His's vitamins are liquid. We have questions about his medicines. I don't know if we can crush one of the meds that is kind of big. They don't want him to swallow large pills. Well, I just called the pharmacist. I just asked the pharmacist and he said it was ok to cut it in half. Don was moaning just now and I said "Are you in pain"? He said " No, I'm feeling uncomfortable. My body has been traumatized. After they were playing around with my innards for an hour that's why I feel this way." If he didn't have the pain medicine he'd be in pain for sure! It's good to have him home again. I sure would miss him if something should ever happen to him! I have spent very few nights being alone in my whole life. Thannks for your incouraging word. Nina

Hello Pati, Don is having his Band done on the 28th. He had done all the stuff this week before surgery and has lost around 8 pounds so far. I see he will have to give up Caffeine. That I'm not sure he's going to do. Don will be using our treadmill. I can't walk very well. I have a bad knee and hips. Don does much of his own cooking and fixing. I do plan on some things of course. Today I think I have a cold. I'm taking Zicam for it and Don just picked up our grandson from school. I think he has the flu.:frown: I hope this won't be the cause of a delay. I know I've been coughing a lot. So has don but he always does that. Well, this is all for now. Got to see how our Granson is doing. Nina

I don't normal sleep in the day time. I wish I could. Don will drive there. I will drive home. On the 15th he is having a EGD. I'll be driving home then also. I can't do freeways, so will do the back roads. I don't know yet if he will be spending the night there.Don says that Medicare might require that, but doesn't know for sure yet. We do have a daughter and son-in-law here that might help if we should need them for some unforseen reasons I can't drive. We have not asked them yet. They both work and are so, so very busy! Their hard to get a hold of sometimes. Take care all, Nina

I guess I'm a little confused (nothing new there...) Nina, are you having the Lap Band surgery too, or just Don? I came on board after Don had been waiting and posting for quite a while, but I wasn't aware his wife was also being banded. Sorry to be asking someone to repeat information, but I'm a shamelessly nosy gal and just can't stand not being in the know! I wish both of you the best of luck, no matter who's being banded! __________________ Joann Still not banded but it won't be long now... No, I'm not having it done, at least not yet. I am seeing how Don does first. I'm 5'5"1/2 inches tall , big boned, and at this time I weigh around 226 pounds if I weight first thing in the morning and after BM. I had been up close to 240 pounds not long ago. It helps having a pain in the ass. I can't sit much and so am either walking around the house, standing or laying down. Sitting is very limited. That is why I'm losing. Pain is gain, they say. I wish we could afford to go to the Y again. We did water arobics with a senior group. Now it's the cost of gas that's keeping us home. Wedo have a tread mill Don will be using and if I lose more weight, maybe I will. Got to get moving now. Been watching YouTub and the Lab Band surery. NIna

Thanks Karen, ( Is that your name?) It's just a hard time for me. I have a major pain in my back because of overworking, a pain because of a sugery in my arsh (sp?) that isn't healing right, and a bad knee. I have to many things wrong to list them all. I hope I don't sound too selfish. I do want to be there for Don. We've been married 45 years this past 3rd. We went to The Red Lobster for lunch. We've gone through a lot together. There is one thing I'm wondering about. Do you have to give up coffee :tt1: That would be a hard one for both Don and I. I just have to take one day at a time and not think about all the things that might go wrong. For some peope it did not work and they always seem to say it's their fault if it doesn't work. Is that true? How could it be right for everyone and never be the Lab Bands isn't right for them? Things seem better in the day time. It's the night time when I lay down to sleep when I'll start to worry. I do take anxiety medicine, meds for depression, and a sleep aid. The one for the knee pain I quit. The side effects were just to scary. I also take Keppra for Epilepsy. I can't believe just how many meds I take! Don even takes more than I do. I'm normaly a cheerful lady. It's is on rare times I get stressed, like the time the IRS was on our backs. I better not go there. Love this forum! Nina
