  1. @@Eli Alexander - Congratulations on both counts!
  2. Could be acid, could be head hunger. Are you drinking your water/fluids? After you eat if you are trying to meet your Fluid levels you should feel at least somewhat full from trying to get in 64 ounces of fluids. How much are you eat and when? Is it time to up your calories?
  3. @@Kellsbells - A week is a drop in the bucket compared to the rest of your life. Relax. It will happen.
  4. @@ButterflyMiss - You need couples counseling. From what I gather you have multiple issues to deal with. We are not therapist here. We are people at various stages of weight loss trying to support each other around that and your issues appear to run deeper than that. Get to a counselor. If he won't go, you go alone. I wish we could help you, but your situation appears to go beyond the scope of what this forum is designed for.
  5. You can return them if you do not like them. I tried a new powder Saturday. It was horrid. I took my receipt and returned it for a full refund.
  6. @@sunflowerchild - I would assume in a conversation among grownups that we could be intelligent enough to understand that each person is speaking from their own personal experiences without needing to post a disclaimer.
  7. @@pratthobbies - Yes that "I thought I was cured..." part is what got me as well. I know some come into this worrying that they will never "eat normal" again. I didn't want to eat like I did before. I wanted the ability to eat smaller portions and be satisfied. I wanted to no longer eat my emotions. I wanted the change to a new normal.
  8. @@kimmeesue - That is the beauty of NSV (Non Scale Victories) . It allows you to be happy with things other than the numbers on the scale. Taking measurements and watching them change. Taking pictures along the way to have a visual of your progression. Noticing that you can walk easier. If you were on meds, the fact that you no longer need them or now use less. The thrill of buying clothes in a size you never imagined seeing again. NSV's are even more important than the scale.
  9. I just bought Isopure unflavored today. I'm gonna give it a test run for a few days but so far, so good. 110 calories, 26 gms Protein 0 fat, 0 carbs, 0 sugar. Supposedly mixes well in hot or cold. I mixed it with a bit of diluted juice and could not taste it!
  10. I bought a dress on clearance for $10 for an event and used a Lane Bryant gift card to buy some compression yoga pants/top and a sports bra. I don't plan on buying any other new clothes. I'm hoping the winter will hide how baggy some things are and enjoying briefly wearing things that had gotten too snug.
  11. @@shani1920 - Presby has meetings the 3rd Saturday of every month. I was at last month's but can't make this month's.
  12. Welcome to the other side!
  13. Exactly! I know my body. I've lived it for 51 years. I know that it reacts atypically to many things that would never bother anyone else. Seemingly minor things like the bandage that kept everyone's IV in place? Leave me with a red, itchy rash for a solid week over my entire arm. You think I'm not going to insist on the bare minimum of gauze and an ace bandage instead because the doctors say they know better? No when I'm the one who has to live with the rash. I am ALWAYS proactive in my care. I do not undertake any procedures or medication without thoroughly investigating and then I discuss this with any medical staff involved in my care. You know why I wasn't jittery and crying going into surgery? Why I didn't need something to calm me down? Because I was prepared. I have to be. Otherwise I'm the one who pays the price.
  14. Today I found what may be a dream come true for me. Isopure has an unflavored powder that is just whey isolate and nothing else. I tried it and so far I really like it. Best yet it can be mixed in hot or cold beverages and gives 26 gms of protein in a scope. Low carbs and NO sugar. Exactly what I need. I would never have found it unless I didn't keep digging and searching. Sure I have reason for doing such a search. I need to eat as clean as possible. My body functions better when I do. It may not be for everyone but it is worth it for me.
  15. @@Stevehud - No one is advocating not listening to your surgical team. If you read my post clearly I stated that I worked with my nutritionist in coming up with a way to eat whole foods. It takes a lot of work. I had to do my part and research alternatives, but it can be done. You also assume that weight gain was because of over eating. I can't speak for others, but I know in my case multiple medical issues played a large part. Pre-mature menopause due to cancer and a tumor on my pituitary are just a few of my issues as well as my severe food allergies. What I am saying is it is entirely possible to eat whole foods on a bariatric diet. If you that is not the path for you, then so be it.
  16. @@Jenngf5 - Congrats on making it through day 1! It's hard to know what to warn folks of. Some have pain, some don't. Some had trouble with gas, some don't. The good news is that it will literally pass. Just keep walking. Welcome to the losers bench!
  17. I didn't take anybody. I didn't want them sitting there waiting and worrying. I told them what time I would be in my room and had the hospital call when I was out of surgery. They were able to meet me in recovery when I woke up.
  18. Pulled out my hand book for this. My nutritionist said to make sure that any Protein drink I purchased used isolates not concentrates, contained at least 20gm protein per 8 ounce serving, 15gms or less sugar and 3 gms or less fat. So armed with this info, a magnifying glass and this 2 page list of recommended Proteins I went in search of a drink that met these requirements and didn't trigger my food allergies. I bought single serving packs from drug stores like CVS and Walgreen, markets like Whole Foods and GNC/Vitamin shop. I spent a good week reading labels and testing things out. I ended up with CVS whey protein powder, Orgain Organics RTD and Prosource liquid proteins. I think only purchased a 2 week supply before going in for surgery because I had heard that your tastebuds could change after surgery. So here's my list. I hope this helps. Protein Drink 1" />
  19. @@BA-Fan - Try for low impact. If they have a pool water aerobics is wonderful. The elliptical may be good for you as well since you can do that seated. I researched my gym online because I find that they tend to oversell when people walk in. Any good gym will have staff that can assist you with the machines whether you buy a personal trainer package or not.
  20. What a challenging situation. I hope you go through with the surgery. My advise is just don't talk about it with her. Keep it to the basics. let her know when you have medical appointments and let her know your surgery date. Be prepared to do your own shopping and arrange your own ride home. Most of all do not become a healthy living proselyte. Her weight loss journey has to be hers and hers alone. Contact the local support group meeting and see if there re any alternatives. If not perhaps arrange your affairs to make a meeting at least once a month. Come here and visit. Now this: I was your size and my surgical course has been completely pain free and uneventful. There are many other like myself. I hope you go through with it and I wish you well.
  21. Some doctors do not like the gummie vitamins and supplements because they feel they are not complete. Bariatric Advantage chewables are fine, just make sure you take them according to your doctor's recommendations. Centrium chewables are acceptable. The list of supplements recommended varies from program to program.
  22. My hospital gave me those little medicine cups to sip from like the kind on the tops of nyquil bottles. When I was discharged I asked for a few to take home. For the first week I sipped from them. It was a good reminder to sip and drink slow. My advice is to relax. Deep breathing, meditations, anything you can think of to relax. If you pray, say a prayer. Then just let go.
  23. There's nothing wrong with therapy. If you are angry and crying about not being able to eat, a therapist might be able to help you deal with those emotions. Why be miserable if you don't have to?
  24. Agreed I know n my heart of hearts I will always have to work to keep off any weight I lose.
