The scars don't bother me. They match my stretch marks I already had. My quality of life is good. I eat more small meals now and I pick foods that are better for me. I don't crave junk anymore. I feel amazing.

    Calling All SIPS Patients!

Right after surgery the day of you cannot have anything to drink at all. You have to wait till the next day when they do a swallow test on you to check for leaks. When I woke up from surgery they had me on great pain meds. I did feel pressure in my chest from gas from surgery. My mouth was so super dry. They can give you these sponge things on a stick to run around in your mouth after you dip them in water. Those were a lifesaver. I was woozy that night and they kept me on oxygen and I wore leg compressor things to prevent blood clots. I also had my catheter removed that night and starting peeing on my own. Day 2 after the swallow test when the doc said it was okay I started on clear liquids. They give you 1 oz of water and it has to take 15 to 30 minutes to drink that. I brought isopure to the hospital and tried to start on some of that too. They will bring you a plate with jello and broth. I could barely get any in. You have to record what you do get in and when you go to the bathroom so the nurses can monitor and they know when you are ready to go home. I stayed 2 nights total but some people only stay 1. Bring Chapstick and gas ex strips. On day 2 I used the gas ex and it helped. When I got home I progressed to full liquid like shakes on day 4 I think. I made the shakes and drank everything out of little medicine cups so I would only sip. I have lost almost 50 lbs total. I am over 2 months out and eat what I want now. My tastes have totally changed and I am not indulgent anymore. I gave up caffeine and soda a month before surgery. I used to eat sweets every day but now they just leave a bad taste in my mouth and I don't feel great later so I rarely eat any sweets. I drink water only and get my protein from food now. I used shakes till about a month out. I do drink some milk every now and then too. I get hungry every couple hours now after my 1st meal but in the beginning I had no hunger for 2 weeks. I have never had dumping syndrome. I did have diarrhea and gas a lot after surgery but now I am very regular.

    Soreness at incision site

I have had the most terrible burning pain about the size of a fist around my belly button. It is mostly when I stand or walk for more than a few minutes. I just did dishes and it hurt so bad to stand there. Not sure if I should call doc or if this is just normal nerve pain and aggravated muscles?? Sleeved on 12/29.

    Dec 29th sleevers ?

I may be crazy but I don't think that's bad if you felt alright and your pouch could handle it.

    Confused

When I woke up from surgery I had nausea. I told recovery room nurses and they gave me some good stuff. I never threw up. Dr. Enochs fixed a hernia too which can cause nausea. I chose to be as positive as possible. They gave me good pain meds and nausea meds in hospital and sent me home with some too. Day 2 gas was horrible!!!!! Walking helps a lot but it takes awhile for your bowels to wake up from anesthesia. I swear by gas ex strips. When I got so miserable I started on those and I started passing gas that night. I stayed at hospital 2 nights and they would have let me stay 3 if I wanted. I decided to come home though. I have had swelling, pain and explosive gas with very loose watery stools. Each day is better though. Today I got up and got dressed and put on makeup and jewelry so I feel much more like myself. Only taking pain meds in day now. First couple days in hospital was hard to get in all fluids but since first day home I have done great. I will post my typical day right now in just a few minutes. I have lost at least 16 since liver reduction preop diet. That was 10 days of 4 shakes a day Bariatric fusion shakes and allowable liquids. Those were broth, sugar free Popsicles, sugar free Jello and things on list they give you. That was hardest part. But after surgery I have not been hungry at all. Oh and dry mouth after surgery is insane!!! But ask for those swabs they give you to moisten your mouth. Day after surgery you have to drink stuff and have xray. It was not terrible but I was dizzy from surgery then. After doc approves xray to ensure no leaks you get to start on Water and broth. 1 ounce lasts 15 to 30 minutes. Next day you graduate to 2 ounces in that time. All in all I keep telling myself this will be worth it!
