  1. I think some people are confused about the tubes--an NG tube goes down the esophogus into the stomach. It is used to put stuff in or take stuff out of the stomach. It is not an emergency proceedure that would be done on an accident site. An ET tube is the emergency proceedure and goes into the trachea and is used to put oxygen into the lungs if you are not breathing! If you aren't breathing-it's not really going to matter whether you have a band. It is put in with a laryngascope and is put right between the vocal cords. It won't get oxygen in your lungs if it is put in your esophogus--thats WHY they use a scope. If I am not breathing--someone PLEASE do whatever necessary to save my life!!
  2. I think some of you may have missed the point of what Big-D and I were talking about. Both of us are still on liquids--we did NOT have all the forbiddens--we(at least I was) talking about what we would have done before--and that we didn't this year! In the south at least, black eyed peas are the "traditional" New years day meal. I did think of making a soup--but like I said-I don't need the extra fiber!!
  3. It wasn't too bad--I made a pot of peas for husband--so I smelled them all day! I'm still on liquids--Friday I can start moving to soft foods, so right now I'm doing soups, yogurt, juices, puddings, etc. Otherwise I would have had the black eyed peas--with the cornbread and fried potatoes!! I thought about turning the peas into a soup and straining it-but right now I DON'T need anymore fiber!! I went to Monterrey for my band--it has worked out great! Went on Friday-had surgery friday afternoon--came home on Monday
  4. Hi--I had mine done on 28th--so I'm just a couple days ahead of you and I'm growling and making other noises too. I'm surprised my husband can't hear it--it seems loud to me! Where in N tx are you--I'm in Sherman
  5. you can wait for an hour and a half?!
  6. Hi Wendy--I'm in Sherman--just got my band on the 28th! doing good!
  7. i wasn't told to stop caffiene. I was told that since I use coffee mate it was better than black--for the acid sake in the coffee. I think that is another case of every doc is different.
  8. I'm on any liquids--I just had creme of chicken soup-just strain out the bits of chicken--pudding, yogurt, jello, juice etc. for 1 week. the juice i mixed half/half water--and just sip on it. the about 4-oz bowl of Soup takes about 15 minutes--same with the pudding cup/jello/yogurt. This week vanilla yogurt--because others have "stuff" in them. The only gas med I've take in the gasx--and not even as much of that as I thought.--the ice/heat (and to be crude-releasing it) helps the most for me. Mary
  9. Hi--I was on the 28th so just one day ahead of you. I've had the chest pressure and back aches--in my case, it has been gas and bloating--you could see and feel the tightness in my upper abdomen. I put ice packs(in a gallon ziplock) on my stomach and heating pad on my back. Combined with the walking and the mild pain med I'm good--getting better each day Mary
  10. are you flying-how long will you be away from home--etc. I just got back from Monterrey--I had the surgery on 12/28 and came home on 12/31. If you are just going to an outpatient or overnight, the list would be different than if you are going to be gone a couple days Mary 12/28 Dr. Arturo Rodriguez/Monterrey
  11. I didn't have a preop diet--I had my band put in last friday 12/28 and am doing great. Mary Dr Arturo Rodriguez/Monterrey
  12. Thanks for filling in for me--I have been enjoying the hospitality of american airlines today and just got home. I'm doiong absolutely great. I didn't feel i was defensive either---like you said there is just so much misinformation around--i was feeling so good and yes relieved at the time that note came across. Relieved because of all the "misinformation" I had read here had me a nervous nelly! If anyone was defensive it was the person who had to pay double or triple what i did!! Mary -
  13. i was told that if I wanted to drink wine/alcohol or eat something spicy to "protect" my stomach first by taking a pepcid chewable or a liquid antacid before Mary
  14. To relax!! and not be terrified of all the worry-warts who post all the wierd might be issues. I had my band on Friday afternoon--before I was so nervous and anxious because of everything I had read----Now I feel like a fool for being so nervous. Mary 12/28/2007 Dr. Arturo Rodriguez/Monterrey
  15. I was told that if I occasionally want to take a drink-to take something like pepcid complete chewables or other antacid before to protect the stomach. also same instructions for the occasional "spicy" something. Mary
  16. mine was done Friday--I would say maybe 1 or 2 right now--much easier than the gallbladder. between the ice pack o n my stomach and heating pad on my back--and the pills they gave me--i'm doing great! Mary 12/28 Dr. Arturo Rodriguez
  17. I'm in Monterrey right now--it is absolutely beautiful!!! My surgery was done by Dr. Rodriguez on Friday afternoon--I don't know about other places, but I wouldn't hesitate to support anyone coming to Monterrey. I was at San Pedro hospital(which is actually a very small maternity hospita--I told them I was leaving with a BAND not a BABY!) but as a nurse it shames me to admit that the nursing care I got was as good or better than what I have recieved in the states Mary 12/28/07 Dr Rodriguez/Monterrey
  18. I found Fox a few years ago- I have always found them to lay out the facts--not try to tell you what you should think. And yes--they cover both sides Mary
  19. Kbinaz---don't know where you got all your "information" about Mexico docs, etc.--but I assure you that you have been misinformed. I have a list of docs in my area that were TRAINED BY the doc who put my band in.--And I suppose you are never going to go anywhere--since no one else will take care of someone else's patients. I may or may not come back to mexico for fills--the airfare from dfw to monterrey is less than what a lot of docs are charging for the fills.(who don't use flouroscopy either) But you don't have to have fills every 6 weeks either.THAT depends on your doc also--mine said as long as I am losing weight OR sizes--no fill. Only when I quit losing. And yes-I was self pay--and yes, there is a HUGE price difference. But I did my research and didn't base my decision only on price--I looked for experience and positive reports. If you go to www.realizeband.com ALL of the patients on there are Dr. Rodriguez patients. It was his patients that were the study group for the FDA to get US approval(he's been doing them a long time)--and is a proctor for J&J to train other docs So it really does serve to do the research--both in making your decision AND before you start spreading false information. Too bad there isn't a "Snopes" for that type of thing. Mary 12/28/2007 Dr. Arturo Rodriguez/Monterrey

last year I did nutrisystem for 6 months 1st 3 months-lost 25 lbs(total) 2nd 3 months--stayed same for 2 months then gained 7 I was doing it exactly like they said 1. severe heartburn!!!! severe gas(all soy) more expensive than they lead you to believe they change all the time--and say they are getting new stuff--get rid of ALL the old before they send the new--you just get a short order. New customers get preference in shipping
  21. I'm 52 and had my band put in yesterday Mary 12/28/2007 Dr. Arturo Rodriguez/Monterrey
  22. I left from dfw yesterday morning at about 9:15 and at 1:00 I was in the OR--by 3 back in my room. Stayed at hospital last night-at the hotel now getting ready to go walk the mall! I'm in Monterrey--and it is 61 . This morning it was 10C (50F and everyone was wearing jackets!) So far lapland is a beautiful place!! Mary 12/28/2007 Dr. Arturo Rodriguez/Monterrey
  23. I had my band put in yesterday and am getting ready to go to the mall and walk. I got back to my hotel room at about 10 this morning--yesterday went so easy for me. They automatically came in and gave me pain meds yesterday afternoon and last night--I'm now on an oral pill. Very little gas so far. I hope I'm not "jinxing" myself--but I feel great!! Mary Dr. Arturo Rodriguez/Monterrey 12/28/07
  24. Hola!! I just had my band yesterday afternoon and am in my hotel room getting ready to go to the mall! Dr. Arturo Rodriguez in Monterrey and his whole crew are fantastic!! I live just north of Dallas-it was 1hour 40 min flight. everything has gone exactly like I was told So far I'm only singing praises! OH--and if you go to the new realize band site--Those are Dr Rodriguez' patients--he has been doing this band since it was the swedish band--and is a proctor for the realize band Mary 12/28/07 Dr. Arturo Rodriguez/Monterrey
