Keep Off Help
I have a question for all you Post-ops! How does keeping weight off with sleeve compare to keeping it off with no help? I've lost 70lbs on weight watchers before and got as low as 188lbs (44lbs from goal) but honestly I think I was able to stay at that weight for literally a day lol. Just wondering how much the sleeve makes a difference one you're close to goal... thanks.

Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Question for all the Post-opers.... First couple months I can imagine your dropping a lot and adjusting to your new tummy. What happens after say 9, 10 12 months? Is your appetite exactly the same as before? This is all assuming you've been following the food guidlines and didn't stretch your stomach out etc....

Sleevers in NYC
Thanks my friend. I had a come to Jesus moment last night after my NUT group meeting. I talked to myself in the car: "what are you doing? you want this so bad but you're not willing to do some work on your own before hand? Even if UHC approves me I need to lose weight prior to shrink my liver AND and i need to prepare for all the work after surgery. I had a real do or die trying moment and I said I'm going to do this. No More Excuses. I love this board! it's so helpful. Your advice about after surgery not having a choice if you're sick etc... good rude awakening!! keep'm coming!!!

Sleevers in NYC
I just got off the phone with UHC and they basically said I can't be denied because of weight gain/loss or staying the same. That said I do think that I've been eating "bad" because subconsciously I might be feeling like this is my last "hurrah" if that makes sense. Kinda like going crazy before you go to prison. Like food jail. Isn't that terrible? I definitely wasn't doing it purposely so who knows. I do have to put my foot down though and start preparing. Thanks Ladies!!!

Sleevers in NYC
Well.... I'm up but here's the thing 2nd weigh in I had a sinus infection for like a month so I couldn't exercise and really wasn't into dieting. I gain 2lbs. 3rd weigh in was after christmas I tried to lose but ended up gaining another almost 2lbs. 4th weigh in I had influenza (flu) for the past month and 1/2 gain another 2lbs... THEN! i got a sinus infection again! and now I'm weighing in tonight for my 5th weigh in and I know it's going to be a gain again could be a 12lb gain by the time I'm done. I'm so scared. I've done everything else perfect. Everyone said UHC Oxford doesn't look at weight but I can't imagine them not seeing the gain. Ugh. Add on top being sick for almost 4 months straight.

UHC Oxford
Everyone keeps saying UHC Oxford doesn't require weight loss in the "6 month motivated attempt". I've gain like 12lbs. I was dieting before I started then I've been sick off and on for like 4 months. I pray to God that I won't be denied because of that. I'm so tired of this stress of insurance approval.

Sleevers in NYC
JerseyCityGal - First off congrats! that's so exciting. Seems we are about the same stats and I love your progress! Couple questions if you don't mind... 1. Did UHC Oxford mention anything about your progress as far as weight loss? I've gained some weight because I had the flu and basically sat around for days on end.... 2. My Bariatric facility seems to think right after my 6th visit with the NUT we can submit my paperwork my only concern with that is that's only 5 months total on the "motivated attempt" I'm wondering if that's true... I'm so worried about the weight gain it's driving me crazy!! Any encouragement will help. Thanks.

Scared husband
Your "chunkyness" is not who you are. Who you are goes a lot deeper than that. You can look at this a million ways i.e. he's insecure, he married someone cause it was comfortable etc... but the truth of matter is you are who you are and whether the outside improves or deteriorates over time real love is powerful enough to overcome such superficial things. I'm glad he's being honest with his feelings but doesn't mean you should enable him. I would suggest instead of him wanting it because you want it so much how about supporting and trusting you. Good luck.

Other Peoples Opinions
Unsolicited Advice. Thoughts? I once had someone say to me “If you stopped drinking soda you’d lose weight.” Now let’s break that down. First of all, we had just left a Water park and not once did I say “got any advice on losing weight?” Therefore, once can assume several things but let’s err on the side of caution. Let’s assume this friend noticed something about my actions that day that suggested I am uncomfortable with my body. Can I point out 95% of the people at that park probably felt the same way? But that’s beside the point. So let’s assume this unsolicited advice is their attempt to help you solve something that is obviously bothering you. What is your response to that? We just came from a water park screw you for mentioning my faults. It’s diet soda and if you had half a brain you’d know besides slightly expanding your tummy and the sodium and chemicals inside the drink no one ever got fat on diet soda but rather the 3 doughnuts and pizza may be the culprit? And why is unsolicited advice always so blunt? What if, God forbid, you said to a friend it seems your weight concerns you, or your relationship or your family or your job or your financial situation, would you mind if I tried to help? Would you mind if I shot some ideas your way but in no way or terms do I think I’m superior or have all the answers? Would you mind if I tried to help even if you took it the wrong way? Are you open to suggestions? food for thought. (pun intended).

I'm done telling folks. They don't get it
Stephanie Salsera Perrott replied to wannaBthinsoon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&AI know exactly how you feel. I'm an extremely open person and of course what comes along with that is sharing my life and decisions. I have to say I've been blessed to received either tons of support and people saying they'll be at the hospital to cheer me on, a few that are concerned it's "dangerous" and to "be careful" (my thought was tell my surgeon to be careful, I'm going to be asleep lol) and a couple not many maybe two that said you can do it on your own you don't need this which my response is when you've lost over 5,000lbs in your life and gain over 5,000lbs in your life then you can talk. This is not a lack of effort. But I say it with a smile and tell them agreed or not you're still coming to the hospital which they always say of course. Therefore my message to you all is: "You know, you do need mentors, but in the end, you really just need to believe in yourself." Diana Ross
