  1. I agree with the color thing. It started looking like huge blue ink blot.. LOL I was going to put the ones who have been banded in a dark blue or even black.. to basically say "banded". Is that rude?
  2. Stitchy, That is exactly what the nutritionist told me about portion size, She also told me that I should put the food in the other room.. and most likely I won't go back. The other thing she told me is to use a dessert plate for my food to better guide me to portion size. I am not banded yet, pretty soon though. But, I'm starting to take all the info. down. LOL
  3. Sherri and Amy, I hope you both have fun together, What a great experience. Will this be the first time you meet? More importantly, I hope all goes well and thing go as planned. Have a safe and speedy recovery and let us know how you did and when you return. Best of luck to you both, I'll be sending prayers your way!!!!
  4. YEAHHHH!! You did it! I'm so happy to hear that things went great for you. I pray thing continue to go this way for you.
  5. I will answer your questions in red. :biggrin1:
  6. Funny, When are you leaving? I just want to make sure I get to say good luck and be safe!
  7. Leila, I have to say that I do not have to have a pre-op diet and I'm quite confident in the Dr. I have. (He's from the Boston, Mass. area.) Anyway, I was, however, required to lose 10 pounds prior to my surgery and I had to keep it off or my surgery was a deal breaker. I do know that there are many people in my support group who have had to have a pre-op diet with him and many who did not have to have one. It really depends on each person, their weight is a factor and the Dr. can tell after he feels around your belly too see if it will be easy to manipulate in surgery. For example a softer belly verses a hard belly. From what I understand, for surgery, you want the softer belly. I'm sure all Dr.'s have different opinions/reasons or methods. Of course we want what's best for surgery, one thing my Dr. does tell his patients is that if there is a problem they will NOT revert to open surgery. They will stop the procedure. Which I know some might be pissed about, but I'd want to talk to my Dr. to see what the problem was before I went ahead and be banded. This is just MO. Does anyone know if there is any bloodwork that is done to help the Dr. find out how fatty the liver is? I gues I will ask my surgeon when I see him next week.
  8. Sorry you feel so yucky!! If I were you, I just wouldn't do it.. unless the Dr. required you too. I know you want to jump start your weightloss.. But you want to have strength for your surgery.. so try to save it. It's not worth all the symptoms you are having right now, In my opinion. I definiately see your point and what your trying to do. I admire you for that, I just am too damn selfish to start a pre-op diet.. just for the jump start. When I'm not required to do so. Best of luck to you!! Get better soon.
  9. Hello, You can count me in too!! How fun. There is nothing like giving and recieving gifts. It literally makes your day.. especially when it's a crappy one!
  10. Olive, Funny you mentioned the weight gain in the four years of being together. My husband and I did that. I gained 50 pounds in 2 years and he gained 45. I guess we were just comfortable... enabeling each other. :embarassed: He ate ice cream, So i ate it.. even though I wasn't hungry. I ate pizza, he ate it.. even though he wasn't hungry. The one thing I did do.. was try to exercise or take a walk. He never wanted to do this.. and this is part of the problem for me. I love to exercise.. but not alone. I've always wanted a buddy with me and every time I did.. I lost loads of weight and kept it off for a longer period of time. Also, I always lied about my weight to my husband until I had a melt down about a month ago. He was saying that my BMI seemed too low to have the band and maybe it might be dangerous for me to go ahead with the surgery.. LOL He thought my weight to be around 185.. I about kissed him and told him he was the best thing in the world! BUT.. I said... you are way off... and after him guessing 5 times.. I told him.. I thought he'd laugh or have a odd look on his face of disgust. BUT he just hugged me and said.. you look beautiful not matter how high your weight is. Yada Yada Yada... (LOL) I felt ashamed that I only weighed 18 pounds less than him. He, too, got into shape, has lost about 20 pounds and it melted off of him almost overnight. I was so jealous. I almost never get jealous! I'm alway happy and excited for people who are doing something good for their health and body or that they are motivated to lose weight, quit smoking.. or what ever the vice is. Any how.. I just wanted to say.. I hear you.. LOL it's hard at times.
  11. Welcome GrannyAces, I added you to our long list of surgeries!! Nice to meet you and keep in touch with the thread.. we love to support each other and everyone is so nice! YEAHHHH IT'S YOUR TURN July 05 - canada sunshine July 05 - eric's mom July 05 - leona06 July 05 - july5forme July 05 - Donna Marie One more time, have a safe surgery and a speedy recovery. Many prayers are sent your way.  Try not to be nervous... we'll all be waiting to hear from you. ALSO CAN YOU ALL BELIEVE HOW LONG OUR LIST IS?? WE NEED TO HAVE ONE MORE PERSON ON THE 20TH AND THE 28TH SO THAT EVERYONE WILL HAVE A SURGERY BUDDY! THAT WOULD BE AWESOME! WE HAVE EXACTLY 40 PEOPLE BEING BANDED IN JULY, THUS FAR.
  12. Hi Jodie, I would definitely get the bloodwork and call the Dr. It could be Anemia or more serious like others have mentioned. Also, to be honest with you.. I'm not banded... but I have some advice that may help. I wasn't eating a lot (one meal a day), to try to lose weight and my body went nuts on me.. with many symptoms you spoke about. anyway, to my surprise the Nutritionist told me that the reason why I was bruising, had headaches, was dizzy and grumpy.. was because I was neglecting my bodies needs. I finally started to lose weight, just by eating 3 meal a day with frequent healthy Snacks in between. In the end, I was anemic and once I changed my ways of eating.. I got better within a few days. Best of luck to you.. I hope it's nothing serious. I know you said you feel you are eating a lot.. But are you eating Breakfast to start your day off or are you eating a whole lot at one sitting... what seems to be your pattern? Just curious.
  13. Hi Mia, Nice to meet you too! Congrats on your weightloss, and remember any loss of weight is great! Slow turtle or the fast rabbit, doesn't matter how long it takes.. because in the end.. it's lost weight.
  14. Hi Steph, Glad to see things are going great for you. 22 pounds is a wonderful start! I'm hoping I can get results like that too!! I hear you on the friends/family situations. This is the reason why I chose to only tell my husband. I only have a few friends that are overweight, nothing like myself though, and I'm tired of hearing the discussion of weightloss coming up and listening to the bashing of the bypass and the band. I was planning on telling my 5 closest friends that I've had since Kindergarten.. but changed my mind the night I had a bon fire.. ( I was planning on telling them this night..) and the topic came up about Star Jones Renyolds and a women that a friend worked with who had bypass. I was sick hearing all the neg. comments they made in general about WLS. I changed my mind for good and decided that anyone I tell most likely will have some type of comment to make to my face or behind my back. I don't want to hear neg. comments about me after I lose my weight... I don't need people stating to me that OHH YOU LOOK GREAT!!! but you had surgery.. the "easy way out". I started a thread last year called "are you a closet bandsters" and I was amazed that many people have been through the same thing with family and friends. There were many posts.. that had great advice and encouragement. So needless to say.. I feel you pain sista!
  15. Liz, YOU GO GIRL!!! You're doing so good right now... keep up the good work! I'm amazed at how much weight you have lost thus far and very eager to see how fast this weight melts off of you. Pat yourself on the back.. that is an awesome start.
  16. Hi all you 30 somethings!!! I'm just curious to see where we all are at and what challenges we have ahead of us. So I just wanted to ask all of you what your height is, start weight was and what you're desired goal is. It's just something fun to find out about each other and a good way to find a "buddy" for those of us who have the same profile. Of course we'll all be there for each other,:cheer2: I know for me that I'd love to find some people that have about the same weight and desired goal.. to keep track of and see how similiar or not.. :director:(LOL) our weight comes off. I do realize that diet and exercise have a huge part of this.. I guess it's more about curiousity. I'll go first... I'm 5'5 and a half... :heh: , highest weight of 246.8.. start weight 235.5 and I have a goal of 165. I'd love to be 145, but with my age.. I'm very doubtful this will happen.. but I wouldn't pout, scream or kill myself if I hit it.
  17. wantlapband, I also wanted to tell you that my paperwork was put in to BCBS on 6/14/06 and wasn't even assigned until 6/29/06. I called them every day to see if it was recieved and assigned. Once it was, I was told they have up to 30 days to approve it. Since my surgery would before then, they said it would take about 15 days. I was told that people who have earlier dates, that needed approval for their specific surgery, would obviously be approved first. Best of luck to you, let me know if there is any info. that you have that I'm missing. Thanks, in advance.
  18. Carlene, You crack me up! First thought that came to my mind was NICOLE RITCHIE too. LOL bobble head.. too funny
