  1. They are all different and it depends on how much weight you need to lose and how fatty your liver is. I had bypass and had a 10 day liquids only pre op diet. It was hard but doable.
  2. If you are not seeing a Bariatric doctor I would do so immediately. I find that almost every doctor that is not part of that group have no idea how to deal with us. If your doctor that you mention is, then I would find a new doctor. In the meantime, I would definitely take the recommended Vitamins for your surgery. Bypass: B12, Calcium Citrate, Vitamin D and a multi vitamin daily and leverage good quality Protein shakes to supplement until you get to the bottom of this. I hope things turn around soon. Your situation is scary and I cannot imagine how crappy you must feel.
  3. Thanks so much! I am excited to give some new products a try!
  4. Which surgery did you have? I pretty much took anything I made for my family and tried to purée it. Sloppy joes, Salisbury steak, ground chicken with a little fat free gravy, I would have my Protein and then a healthy carb puréed like carrots, sweet potato, applesauce. I also had cream of wheat. What failed for me was egg, egg salad, pretty much anything to do with eggs which I loved before surgery I simply cannot tolerate now.
  5. @@WildGrits I had to chuckle at your comment regarding the loss of padding. I literally have no behind left at all and unless I am sitting on a coccyx pillow I am extremely uncomfortable. I just bought a second pillow for my car. I have stopped eating at the table because of it as well which I know is bad but I figure I have worked hard to eat slowly and my pouch will give me hell if I do. I had heard that your body will readjust but I am 14 months post op and it only gets worse. I have learned to sit with 1 leg under me or I try to sit on one side of my rear.
  6. Oh and gas really does cause pain for me. If I get a burp stuck I am in pain until it comes up. Thankfully that doesn't happen often because I have learned how to eat and drink much slower.
  7. I do get this off and on. Sometimes I think I am just eating too fast and have to slow way down, other times specific foods that worked before are no longer tolerated. I will say that having bypass, food is always about trial and error. Is it possible you are eating to fast or not chewing enough? If the answer is no and it keeps happening give your doc a shout. Good luck!
  8. Honestly this is a tough question to answer and I have battled back and forth on this. I chose my goal weight because it was on the high side of an ideal weight and bmi for someone my height. As I get close to my goal, currently within 13lbs, I am looking pretty darn good. There are places where I hope no more weight comes off (butt &boobs), and there are others where I still need to lose some weight(upper arms , stomach and thighs. I have decided I will push to no longer be overweight on the bmi scale and give myself a little room for that 10 to 15lb regain that happens over time. That may mean initially I am a little thinner than I would like.
  9. Glad to hear you are doing well. Take care of yourself!
  10. Wow, that is a long time to be off work for this surgery. Do you mind if I ask what you do? I hope that you are able to quickly get everything in order because this surgery is well worth it. I wish you all the best and if you need anything or have questions feel free to reach out. Good luck!
  11. I was one of the unlucky ones who lost about 2/3 of my volume. Now understand I am Italian and had a huge head of thick coarse hair. It started very soon after surgery and did not stop until about 13 months post op. Yes I got all my Protein and used Biotin every day. I knew it was inevitable for me. Just about any surgery I have I end up with hair falling out. When it continued for so long I actually started to freak out a bit. I saw my Bariatrics team as well as my dermatologist. I was told as soon as my weight loss slowed down my hair loss would slow as well. That set a new panic because I was not ready to stop losing. I had shoulder length hair and cut it in a cute little bob. Also I am 52 and have to color my hair every 4 weeks. I really felt like it looked worse the lighter it got so I ended up coloring to my natural very darn brown color. It looked best short and dark. Now I am 14 months post op and my hair loss finally stopped and I have tons of regrowth. In fact it sticks up everywhere. Incidentally my weight loss did slow way down but it has not stopped. I have around 12 lbs to go and I know I will get there slowly. My vote is short and dark. The thinning definitely does not show as much. Also, most people don't even notice. My husband did because there was hair everywhere, my stylist did for obvious reasons but really no one else even mentioned it. I guess they were way more focused on how thin I am.
  12. Wow! Congratulations on your great success and hitting Onederland!
  13. Practice chewing your food a lot, removing distractions while eating so you listen to your body when you are full. Trying to slow down taking 20 to 30 minutes to eat. I might also suggest measuring out a real portion, now post surgery those portions are much smaller but the behavior of actually sticking to a real portion will hep you.down the road. The other thing I would do is start tracking your food intake (good or bad) into a tool like my fitness pal. This becomes really important post surgery but I really wish I had started it beforehand so that I could understand my nutrition better. I think I would have seen my Protein and carbs so upside down that it would have shocked the hell out of me. I believe much of my success so far is because I track literally everything, good or bad. I do it throughout the day so that I always know exactly where I am with my protein, carbs and calories. It really helps me to make much better snacking decisions for sure. If my protein is low, my snack is some jersey or a Protein Bar. If my protein is on track I might have some crackers and cheese or even something a little naughty if I am out with hubby for dinner. That tracking tool allows me to hold myself accountable. It also helps me understand when a stall has gone on for a while, what might be causing it. I also use an Apple Watch to track my activity and exercise. Before I had the Apple Watch I used a Fitbit. Good luck to you!
  14. Just wait til u go through pre op diet and weeks of liquid and puréed stage. The only thing you think about and dream about is chewing something!LOL Then when you finally can you are terrified that u will accidentally swallow something too big. When you finally do swallow something too big and the chest pain comes , you will chew, chew, chew til the cows come home.
  15. I have learned to appreciate the stall mostly because when it ends the weight starts coming off fast again! And it's weird but I swear my body composition changes and it's more noticeable.
  16. I am 14 months post iop and like many others I only regret not doing it sooner. It is the best of thing I have ever done for myself.
  17. Definitely no. It has been hard to get used to because of my severe arthritis but it is not worth the potential stomach issues.
  18. Best baked hot wings 1 package of chicken wings or however many you like. Olive oil Salt Pepper Louisiana hot sauce 1/2 stick butter I love hot wings but the ones without all that nasty breading. So I simply bake my wings or drumettes in a 400 oven until crispy. It usually take about 30 to 45 minutes. I put parchment on my baking pan for easy clean up and I swear they get crispier because of the parchment. Turn the wings once during baking. While wings are in oven, take butter and a bottle of hot sauce and simmer in a small saucepan. When wings are done simply toss in sauce to coat. Wings will stay delicious and crispy if you serve right away. Sometimes I will put that sauce in a slow cooker on the lowest setting, toss my wings and let people help themselves. The longer they sit in that slow cooker the meat will literally fall off the bones but this method will take away their crispness over time. This is the way that I love them!
  19. Brie with apricot cranberries on apple slices This is one of my favorite treats! Small wheel of your favorite Brie cheese 1/2 cup low sugar apricot preserves 1/4 cup crazies Preheat oven to 350. Unwrap Brie and place in glass baking dish. Spread apricot preserves on top (if u like more, add more). Sprinkle craisins on top. Bake in 350 over for 15 to 20 minutes until Brie is soft and warm. Serve immediately with apple slices or your favorite whole grain cracker. Be careful not to over indulge in this one. It is addictive!
  20. Thanksgiving day appetizer chicken salad yum yums 1 large can chicken breast meat 1 hard boiled egg chopped small 2 baby dill pickles chopped very small 1 celery stalk chopped very small 1/3 to 1/2 cup mayo ( I use olive oil mayo) or if you like miracle whip light that's great with this too! Salt Pepper 1 English cucumber sliced in coins Drain chicken well. Mix chicken, egg, pickle, celery and 1/3 cup mayo in a small bowl. Add additional mayo if needed and salt and pepper to taste. Top cucumber coins with salad and enjoy. You can also make this with tuna. Normally I make small cheese puffs - (mini cream puff recipe with shredded cheese in it) and put this salad in between. It is one of my families favorite Snacks for football watching but I adapted it for me. I have however eaten 1 of the cheese puffs a few weeks ago. Although my tummy usually don't like bread, these were really great and my tummy did not mind.

  22. I do this all the time but now as I am nearing my goal I have slowed my roll. I really love those little jackets and tops that have the thumb holes in them. My hands are always cold as am I so when I started shopping for them I was excited. Of course at the time I was still in an extra large and the really cute ones only come in small, med, and large. I bought the large and although I could squeeze into it at the time it was really snug everywhere. I hung it in my closet and it has been there ever since. That is until last week when I pulled it out and was able to wear it comfortably for the day. Of course I have found many of those types of jackets since and I have been wearing them for about a month now. My next purchase will be a size 10 jeans, my 12s are starting to get very loose but I am sure the 10 will still be snug. If and when I get rid of all this loose skin, I will probably be into a 8 maybe? I am fearful of buying anything in that size thinking I may never get there.
  23. Leftover Turkey Enchilada Soup 2 cups shredded leftover turkey 6 Cups chicken stock 1 large can enchilada sauce 1 can green chiles 1 poblano pepper chopped 1 large sweet onion chopped 3 carrots diced 2 stalks of celery sliced thin 2 cloves garlic minced 1 1/2 cups whole kernel corn 1t cumin 2t chili powder Salt to taste Pepper to taste 2 T olive oil Heat olive oil in large heavy bottom soup pot. Sweat onion, celery, poblano and carrots until begin to soften. Add garlic and stir for about a minute. Don't burn garlic or it gets bitter. Add chicken stock, enchilada sauce and all other ingredients to the pot and let simmer until veggies are soft. Add salt and pepper to taste and certainly add additional chili powder or even hot sauce if you like it spicier. I happen to like mine more on the mild side. You can also add Beans to ramp up the Protein and take the corn out. I don't eat beans.
  24. I think everyone feels that low energy generally crappy feeling that first week. That feeling gets worse if you let yourself get dehydrated. The thing that will help you to feel better is getting fluids in at this point. Given you are bypass I am guessing you are on Clear Liquids this week? I know I was only allowed clear liquids and they had not even started me on Protein until after my one week check in. That first week is rough but you have to sip all day long. I promise, it will get better!
  25. You have done great so far! Don't let a stall get the best of you. They really are a normal part of the process and I promise it will end. In terms of nausea? Are you getting all of your fluids in? Dehydration can cause you to feel like crap and become nauseous. This happened to me in the beginning and honestly I did not start to feel better until I got all my liquids in. If that is not the culprit then give your doctor a call and they can give you something for the nausea. Best of luck to you!
