  1. You have now learned a very rough lesson. Your tummy needs that time to heal. You must stick with the plan or risk complications that you most definitely do not want.
  2. Please search for 3 week stall on this site and you will find how common this is. Also one week with no loss is not really a stall. When you go several weeks with no loss then I would suggest your body might be taking a break. Just keep following the plan and the break will end. Your body is just waiting to see what you will do next.
  3. Oh my goodness! Thanks so much for sharing your great accomplishment with us. You look like you are in heaven. Keep up the great work and you will hit your goal soon! Congratulations!
  4. @@TinyMamiOf3kids, nice work! I cannot wait until I can get the plastics going. I am a ways out, still have another 53 to go and then need to maintain for a while. Wish I could get my arms done sooner. I have such terrible loose skin there, my arms were soooooo big when I was 315.
  5. Hi Amy and welcome! Thanks so much for sharing your story. As I am sure you already know, you are not alone in your journey. It is so exciting to get to the post op phase so you can begin a whole new life. If there are any questions you might have, feel free to throw them out here. I am guessing someone has experienced the same thing and might be able to help. You mentioned you are having a few complications related to eating...... Good luck on your new journey!
  6. Well, I wish you all the best with your upcoming surgery. I started with the RNY because I already had uncontrollable reflux and my surgeon had so much experience with the sleeve making that problem worse. I have not had a single episode of reflux since the first day post op.i can eat pretty much whatever I want and thankfully I do not get dumping syndrome. Good luck with your upcoming transition. Hopefully you will feel better soon!
  7. This topic comes up just about every day on this site. You can search for it and fine hundreds if not thousands of posts that should help you. For me, the band was never an option to consider. My surgeon feels unless you have really great exercise habits in place, the band will not succeed long term. Banders had to work even harder. Given I have psoriatic arthritis and degenerative spine disease, we felt that was not going to be as successful for me. So my decision was between the sleeve and RNY gastric bypass. We then had to take my health concerns into account. I suffered from a lot of things, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, reflux/herd, diabetes and stage 3 kidney disease. As soon as my surgeon realized that I suffered from reflux, he immediately recommended that I go with RNY. I was devastated. I had my heart set on going with the sleeve. I was told the sleeve can make reflux much worse and that many folks will go the sleeve route and then have to get it revised to RNY anyway. I got a second opinion from my gastroenterologist and he immediately confirmed for me that RNY was the way to go. I had RNY on 9/29/14. It is the best thing I ever did. I am down 95lbs, all of my issues: high blood pressure, diabetes, reflux/gerd, high cholesterol and even my kidney disease have resolved. When you go for your consultation, they should go through your medical history and that should really help with your decision. Good luck to you!
  8. I am seven months post op and just in the last 4 weeks I have finally been able to tolerate raw salad and all the veggies that go with it. Prior to that salad was not a good experience for me. Now I cannot get enough of it. I especially love to throw a scoop of cottage cheese on it for that extra Protein. Fruit I have been able to tolerate since the beginning. My nut had me eating raw fruit at 4 weeks out in very small amounts but peeled. I still cannot set an apple peel.
  9. Welcome and good luck on your surgery!
  10. Here is the thing, if you get heartburn or reflux at all the sleeve can make that much worse very quickly. You must do your research and quickly. I have read so many posts from people that made the decision to go with the sleeve even though it was recommended to do bypass and now they are having revisions to bypass anyway. I originally had planned to go sleeve and after my doctor recommended bypass I was devastated. Then I researched the heck out of it and came to the conclusion that I was only going through this once if I could help it. I went with bypass and have not regretted it once. I can eat anything I want, have never had dumping syndrome, have exceeded my weight loss expectations. I was removed off all heartburn and reflux medication within one month post op and have never had a single episode of heartburn/reflux/herd. Good luck, and please do your research quickly.
  11. Here is the thing, not can take a yogurt that you normally eat and pop it in the freezer. It is delicious and you do not have to worry about the added sugar.
  12. My favorite recipe for grilled chicken is Greek chicken. There is a marinade that you use that makes the chicken juicy and delicious on the grill. You can find the recipe on line by googling Greek chicken. I use the boneless, skinless breast. The marinade has olive oil, lemon juice, fresh garlic, fresh oregano, salt and pepper. You put the marinade in a plastic bag with the chicken breasts for about an hour or more if you like and then just grill them til done. Yum!
  13. I find myself addicted to looking in the mirror or at pictures of myself now vs. 1 year ago. Every time I look in the mirror I think who is that person looking back at me. Also I am addicted to wearing clothes that actually fit me now. I was so used to hiding my body that I bought everything larger than it needed to be. Now, I cannot stand when I put something on and it's saggy or baggy. I want to look nice all the time. So, shopping is something I love to do when I can.
  14. I am seven months post op. I craved a sandwich like crazy until I tried one for the first time at 5 months. I found the bread fills my tummy and I do not get the Protein I need for the day if I do that. Also, it actually makes me very uncomfortable. Now, if I use bread to make a slice of French toast where I soak it in the egg mixture, I don't have much of a problem with it. I can only eat about a third of that piece of French toast. Crackers however work nice if you use chicken or tuna salad. I only do this once in a while because I find if I eat to many bad carbs like bread or crackers, I don't lose that day.
  15. Ugh, I totally feel for you. My hair has been falling out since month two and I am now at month 7. Thank god I had a very thick head of hair to begin with, it is now very very thin and coming out worse than ever. I have had my Protein, Iron and thyroid checked in the last two weeks and everything is normal. My surgeon told me once the weight loss stabilizes the hair loss will stop. I have 52 lbs to go. And of course I am now at a 1 to 2 lb loss per week. I have a ways to go. Anyway, I actually went to a wig specialist that focuses o wigs for cancer patients a couple years ago after having trouble with my thyroid and losing about 1/3 of my hair. The wigs she had were top quality but pretty expensive. I paid almost 700.00 for mine. I did not wear it for long but pulled it out the other day. Not sure if I will wear it but if things keep going the way they are I might have to.
  16. I too have never had dumping and can literally eat anything I want. At first my bariatric team though I had not pushed the boundaries yet but I can assure you I have and although some things like ice cream make my yummy feel heavy and uncomfortable, I don't get sick. Here is the thing, your new stomach controls how much you can fit into it. You control what and how often you put something into it. This is why building good eating habits is critical to your success. Just because I can eat anything I want, does not mean that should. This is simply a tool to help you manage your hunger. You have to get to the point where you truly recognize real hunger and a whole new feeling of full. Full now does not mean stuffed to the point where you are uncomfortable. I used to do that all the time. Full now means satisfied and comfortable. This is exactly why having this surgery is very hard work. You have to manage your food, Water and activity every single minute of the day. If you do that, the rewards are incredible. Better health, massive weight loss and more energy than you can imagine. I consider myself very lucky to be able to eat what I want without getting sick. Good luck to you guys!
  17. @@KalelsWifey, i too suffer from horrible migraines and have been using a drug called Dihydroergotomine. (dHE). About 4 years ago I went to a neurologist that specializes in migraine. She is a migraine sufferer herself and I have learned a lot from her. I have not been to an ER since I met her because she provided me with the right medications so that I could treat them quickly at home. I take one dose of Propanalol each evening. A very low dose. This is used as a preventative. Then when I feel a migraine coming on, I give myself an injection of DHE in the leg. 98 percent of the time the headache subsides completely within 30 minutes and I feel perfectly normal. Every once in a while I get a super severe migraine where the DHE does not work right away and then I have a rescue shot called Toridol which makes my super migraine disappear completely. I will say since having my RNY completed my headaches have gone from daily to maybe once a week on average. Some weeks I get none, others I will get two. We did try stopping the Propanalol but my headaches came back daily so we just use that one dose in the evening. We did stop Topomax after surgery. I don't think that medication did anything for me. I have learned that migraines are genetic and usually the only thing that resolves them for women are to go through menopause. Even then, they may not resolve. I am hoping I am one of the lucky ones who does resolve as I am going through menopause now. My poor son and granddaughter (she is 10) both get severe migraines as well. Hopefully they will get them under control now because migraine is actually damaging. I have developed arthritis in my jaw from clenching due to the pain. Once that happens there is nothing much that can be done. I wish you all the best with your recovery and hope your headaches get better.
  18. It is beautiful! Thanks for sharing it with us.
  19. Woot woot! That is a fantastic NSV! Congratulations!
  20. I might have to give Dannon Greek light and fit a try. I used to love Greek yogurt but it is too thick and sour tasting now so I eat regular yo plait light and boost the Protein with high Fiber and protein granola. It would be great to get an even bigger boost from my yogurt but I want to enjoy it. Thanks for the tip on Dannon Greek light and fit.
  21. What the heck is wrong with people! I am so sorry she said that to you. Clearly she is ignorant. I am not so sure she is a "real" friend. You just keep moving forward, you know what needs to be done and leave those rude people in the dust.
  22. You look absolutely fantastic! Don't be so hard on yourself. You know what you have to do to get what you want, you just need to get going again. But rest assured, you look terrific!
  23. I have told everyone. I am proud of my decision to get healthy and could not be happier with the results. Anyone who asks how I have lost the weight, I tell them I had WLS and then share with them how it works and how difficult it is. I have received nothing but support and questions from folks that have been interested in getting help themselves but are fearful.
  24. I buy mine at costco which carries 18 packs. I have tried all the favors and chocolate is the only one I buy. vanilla and strawberry are two sweet for me. I absolutely love the chocolate, it is the only Protein drink I will use. It tastes like chocolate milk to me but a little bit thicker.
  25. Way to go and welcome to the losers club!
