  1. My doctor had ordered an acid reducer (omeprazole), so I didn't have a problem, but I wonder if he prescribed it because other people do.
  2. Hang in there. You can do this.
  3. Thirty-six hours to go and I'm starting to feel nervous. Tomorrow is the Clear liquids day. I have to drive back to Austin in the morning. (I was facilitating a couple of teacher's workshops today in Carthage). That means I'll 4.5 hours in the car to let my mind wander. Not sure that's such a good thing. Deep breath. I've made it this far. Just keep swimmin. Just keep swimmin. Thanks to everyone who has shared your story. The really do help. I don't post much, but I read often.
  4. I'm going Monday (27th). Trying to control my nerves, especially since I have to lead two workshops on Saturday. Just keep swimmin'. Just keep swimmin.'
  5. I agree. That's an awful fast turnaround to lose 15 pounds. Your best shot is going to be either a VERY low (30 gram) carb diet with a calorie cap (probably 1000), or something like Shakeology. The hospital here has a similar "shake-based" diet available. Have you checked to see if there is something similar available to you through the hospital?
  6. That's disappointing. Hang in there.
  7. Congratulations! Up and walking a lot is awesome!
  8. My whole life? o.O In all seriousness, it's been about two and half years since I was 303. That's why I'm opting for the surgery. Losing weight is painfully slow for me, and I've lost 100 pounds twice before and gained it back.
  9. Oh, my gosh! I have not had any problem with the 30-carb diet until today. I have 4 more days until surgery but I am STARVING today. Help?
  10. Had my final post-op meeting today with the anesthesiologist and the hospital's dietitian. I've already met with the surgeon and his dietitian and office staff. Go date is 10/27/2014 at 7 am. Whoo-hoo!
  11. Well, months of planning and hard work are about to pay off. I am scheduled for my gastric bypass on 10/27 at 7 am. I'm proud to say God helped me get from 303 to 238 as of this morning. I'm 5'6" so that puts my BMI at 38 .4, still obese, but a lot better than 48.9, where I started. I'd almost be tempted to continue losing without the surgery except I have lost more than 100 pounds twice before, even became a certified personal trainer at one point, and my body always creeps up to its set point if I'm not super diligent, or have a health issue, or have a life crisis. The surgery will help me be more diligent for long enough for the eating habits and lifestyle changes to become habitual. At least, that's what I'm hoping. The first week of the pre-op diet (fewer than 30 g. carbs; more than 70 g protein) went well. I have six more days of this and one day of the clear liquid diet. I'm feeling a little OCD at the moment because I reading and listening to everything I can get my hands, from medical journal information to people's personal experiences (probably more helpful than the medical journals, to be honest). I'm a little nervous, but mostly in the "can we please get this over with" mindset. I feel I'm as prepared as I can be at this point. My pre-op appointment with the hospital is this afternoon. (I've already met with the surgeon.) The surgery as a milestone, a place to mark a significant point in my life change journey. I know it won't fix underlying issues, so I've been working on those as hard as I can. The only one I feel I have not mastered is eating when I'm tired. Thank you to all those who were brave enough to share their stories, pre- and post-op. They have been tremendously helpful.
