  1. Good info, all. I will certainly keep you posted on my treatment, as I'm starting the antibiotics this week (already taking the Prevacid post-surgery). I really think the H.Pylori might be why I feel "hungry" a lot... But no other symptoms. I'll ask Dr. Aceves before I head down there in a couple of months for my upperGI and bloodwork, if it would be ok to do the stool test to make sure the bacteria is gone. Thanks again!
  2. If you have a Costco membership, I KNOW they have Turkey AND Beef jerky there... Also, you might find it at Fred Meyer's or Safeway. :thumbup1: (Being a former Washingtonian, I know the stores there, hehe.)
  3. Quick question for you, Oregon... What was your treatment for it, and is it gone now? Sounds like this might have been a big issue for you, and I'm very curious about how this might play-out for me? This H.Pylori is makin' me nervous. :tongue_smilie:
  4. I agree, Marilyn... If it's recommended, do whatever you need to do to get it done... We paid thousands of dollars for this, and it's our health we're talking about, not a car check-up. Also, for me at least, if they tell me to do something, I am following 100%... with my band I had NO problems (that I knew of), no symptoms of trouble... and I was SEVERELY eroded into my stomach. Had I not gone into surgery for removal/revision and found that, the band would have eventually punctured completely through my stomach wall, and I would have had acid leaking into my abdomen. This could have literally killed me. NO BUENO! :scared0: I just don't trust my own body to tell me everything I need to know... so getting checked out is a priority for me. :tongue_smilie: best to everyone on this sunny (vegas) sunday!
  5. Wow, I can't believe it stays in the blood forever... I'm surprised it doesn't say that in the Mayo Clinic info I read... I did read about the BREATH test they can do to check it, I wonder if that's a possibility for a post test? Not that I could really care less about the stool sample. LOL. Been there, done that. I really just hope the regimen works, because after my research and reading, I think this might be why, even though I'm sleeved, I still feel pangs of "hunger" or whatever coming from my stomach as little as an hour after eating... the literature mentions that as one "symptom" people might not recognize... they just think they are hungry all the time. UGH! I don't feel AS hungry or as ravenous as before, but even having taken the Prevacid EVERY DAY, with Water, in the morning, I still go through physical pangs or twitches that I can certainly recognize as similar to before surgery. Fingers crossed that this regimen of stuff will kill the bacteria dead, and I will have the "I'm never hungry" feeling people have raved about with the sleeve! :tongue_smilie: Best to all!
  6. Oregon... If you plan to come down this way in the next couple of months, I would totally go with you! Let me know what you think... or, if you are in AZ further out, I'd still love to catch up! :tongue_smilie:
  7. Glad to hear I'm not the only one... and I would have never thought to look at Trader Joe's, so I will definitely look there! I prefer the taste and texture of the beef thus far, but I'm thinking the turkey will grow on me. Good point about the sugar and the teriyaki, so perhaps I'll look for black-pepper turkey jerky... I know they make that in beef. Hope all are doing well in their weightloss journey! - :tongue_smilie:
  8. I think you're doing great, and that you should celebrate yourself and your great loss so far! I have to keep saying the same to myself, as I'm at a bit of a stall. We can do this!
  9. Because I had the band before, with major erosion... and because I am a revision from band to sleeve (though one year after my band was removed), I will DEFINITELY be getting the upper-GI and bloodwork with Dr. Aceves. I live in Nevada, so the drive is 6-7 hours? The flight to SanDiego is 50 minutes and a 90 minute drive from there... either way, I'm going in a couple of months. I'm hoping all will check out A-OK! Best to all!
  10. I'm glad I found this thread, though I'm sorry this happened to you, Lan. I too have tested positive for H.Pylori. My doctor found it in the post-op biopsy of my stomach. They called to tell me, and am now getting things in order for the triple-threat treatment they give, two specific antibiotics, and the Prevacid. Has anyone else had this treatment, besides me and LAN? If so, what was your experience, how are you testing now, and how are you feeling? I'm starting to think I have had this for a VERY long time, and am a little upset that I was never tested for it. After much reading up on this over the last week (found out last Friday, I have it), the literature says many people have this, and there are no symptoms. I've never had an "ulcer" and no real tummy problems (minus my band) so I would have never even known had I not gotten the sleeve... Here's some links and information on it, in case anyone is interested... H. pylori infection: Symptoms - MayoClinic.com Helicobacter Pylori - Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment of Helicobacter Pylori - NY Times Health Information Here is the regimen they are going to have me take (Prevacid instead of Nexium): > Nexium 20 mg daily for 2 months > Amoxacilline 500mg every 6 hrs for 14 days > Clarithromycine 500mg every 12hrs for 14 days
  11. I just wanted to chime in and say you're doing what you need to, to keep yourself here on Earth for your children... you will make it through, I know it! Best to you on Monday! Scared is normal, and so is excited. Here's to your sleeve!
  12. Hi all. I'm eating "real" foods now, which is SO nice. Haven't had many problems, though at times I have a hard time determining when I will get that "UGH" full feeling, which can be very debilitating (temporarily) if I get over-full. I have to keep telling myself this is a learning process. In that spirit, I'm wondering if anyone has tried to utilize beef or turkey Jerky as a good source of Protein? I only ask because my brother was eating some last week, and I thought "high protein! try it!" ... so I did. Chewed it really well, and had NO problems. One individual packet, which is WAY too much for me, is less than 150 calories, 1.5 grams of fat, and 20 grams of protein (that's for the beef). Similar stats for the turkey jerky. Just wondered what you all might think about this? I really want to do my best to get Proteins in via food, as the shakes and drinks just make me feel ravenous... Best to all!
  13. No, the Jay Robb isn't allowed on the clear-liquids phase... But that only lasts a couple of weeks, so I was able to deal... I'm still cool with the Jay Robb (I'm using it every day, in the morning), so that's a good thing. I just got the strawberry flavor, it's really very good as well... tastes like a lighter strawberry milk flavor. I still have about 5 small bottles of the isopure, and one really big bottle of it... if anyone here in Vegas or Henderson is interested. I just don't want to throw it out (expensive stuff), but won't use it myself. Hope this helps!
  14. Thanks, Mini-me! How are you doing? Do you love being a loser? I sure do!
  15. You do what you think is best... feel the situation out, and see how YOU feel about telling. If you don't want to, you don't have to. Keep us posted on your date and the "telling" ...
  16. Congrats, Oregondaisy! Please keep us posted... I'm not ready for dating, maybe in the future. But's it's so exciting to see others getting out there!
  17. Congrats to you! I was about a week behind you with Dr. A. Was sleeved on Feb. 1. I've lost 21 lbs as of today in less than 25 days. It's truly amazing... Let's all keep up the GREAT work!:smile:
  18. Hi Loser (sleeve-twin)! I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing these discomforts. Although I drank too fast one day last week, and had to vomit it back up, pronto... No other problems with drinking nor eating thus far (fingers crossed). I have a theory on MY experience thus far... and that it my having had the band before, perhaps my old "band habits" of slow and steady, and such... have kicked back in? I can't explain it. I will say the one thing that has been back for me the last two days is HUNGER. I can't figure it out... It's really bugging me. I didn't have my Protein right away in the morning the last couple of days, which is the only thing I can think would be the reason? I'm going to start my day with 35 grams of protein (Jay Robb shake) tomorrow morning, and see how that affects my day. If you need to vent or talk, I'm here for you, bro! If you want to email me a PM or talk on the phone, let me know. Hang in there!:smile:
  19. Hi Motherof4 -- We're sleeve sisters! Ya! It was a sudden "let's eat" situation, and I was caught off guard, but I managed. And, (fingers crossed) I have been starting to slowly try bites of "regular" food, NO PROBLEMS. Again, fingers crossed... but here's hoping this continues.
  20. I guess I'm on a yogurt rampage... found another cool kind today. It's called SKYR, which is an Icelanic version of yogurt. Fat-Free and thick and yummy. AND, a LOT of Protein. 16 grams per 6 oz! Check it out. It's a bit on the spendy side, but DE-LISH! Oh, and they only sweeten with Agave, which is something I hadn't thought of... and I have Agave here, so I'm going to try that as a little touch of sweet in my FAGE as well. siggi's yogurt full product line http://skyr.com/about_skyr.html
  21. Coopers... That is a GREAT idea about trying the Crystal Light. I wouldn't have thought of that... I'll try it, and see if I like it. :wink0:
  22. After not much time, I got REALLY tired of the Isopure, and it was a bit too sweet for me post-surgery. So, I have some of it sitting here, not sure what to do with it. If anyone on here from VEGAS or HENDERSON is interested, I'd love to give it to someone who will use it. The ONLY shake I have found that I'm ok with is the Jay Robb Protein. It has 25 grams per scoop, and when adding milk, that makes it an 8 oz, non-fat 34 grams of Protein Shake. Good stuff, for the most part. I haven't loved MOST of the protein things I've tried over the last month, so the Jay Robb is a tolerable and good choice for me... Hope everyone is doing well! :wink0:
  23. Thanks, Tiff. Good point... I just felt like the stuff in the bottom was too sweet. So, I'll try some of those sugar free syrups... But, I do like the yogurt plain too.
  24. What Sugar Free syrup do you recommend? I think maybe some pureed whole-fruit would be good, as the syrupy fruit isn't working for me...
  25. The tub at Costco is 35.3 oz, and the regular sized FAGE 6 oz is $1.99. I really love the FAGE (pronounced: Fa-Yeh), so it's worth it... but knowing it's a Costco made me sooooo happy! YUM! Oh, and I LOVE Fresh and Easy. Isn't it great!
