Parents trying to talk me out of VSG.
I've never known complications from surgery to be genetic. Diseases that may result in needing surgery being genetic, yes, but not complications. It sounds like they are concerned. My dad went through the same thing. Tried to talk me out of it, but months before asked my mom if she thought I could benefit from it. Now he's giving me advice on how to do well. (he's never had any kind of surgery in his entire 56 years!) When I made the decision to do this... and stuck to that decision, there was nothing anyone could say or do that would change my mind. We don't (or at least we shouldn't) be doing this to please anyone but us. You may want to try to sit your parents down and educate them on VSG...or take them to a support group meeting (idk if yours allows family members, the ones at my hospital do). Print out some articles and let them read up on it. God bless you on your journey! Your parents will come around! Lauren

You've lost a pile of weight!
That's a new one. A "pile" of weight? I would have asked her, "exactly what is a "pile" of weight?? And don't say a ton because I take things very literally sometimes and I never had a ton to lose lol! Congrats on your weight loss...the whole pile!

Day after tomorrow!
My surgery is Tuesday and I can't be more excited. And what makes it so much better is that my church family is noticing my loss already and I'm only 20 pounds down. This makes me believe more that I'm doing the right thing! Oh.....and my daddy noticed it too...he thought it was just my outfit today but its not! Lol!!!

Evolution of eating post op
When I met with my surgeon today he mentioned that I should be introducing solids back into my diet by three weeks post. One week liquids, one week, pureed, then on to regular foods. That sounded really fast to me. How long before you were eating regular foods? Does this sound fast??

It's spooky close!
Congratulations!!! I pray I don't have a lot of crazy pain. U think that's my biggest concern since I have drug allergies and prefer not to take anything if I can help it. But my surgeon and my support system is great so I'm ready!! What did you buy to prepare yourself once you got back home?

It's spooky close!
Tuesday is the day and the closer it gets, the more anxious I get. Not about the surgery but about having what I need in the hospital and after...lol! Had my type and screen and did the registration and all the paperwork today. I talked to the surgeon today and he answered all my questions before I could even ask them! That made me so happy! All I have to do Tuesday is show up...at 0530!!!!

Is the pre op diet needed?
I would disagree with your psychologist. Most of us are here because of some kind of food addiction. The procedure isn't going to work if we don't learn to control impulses and if we don't pay attention to our relationship with food.....WLS is one tool. There are various others that, paired with WLS will help us be successful.

Is the pre op diet needed?
You might want to do some research on food addicts anonymous. To be successful with the surgery, your mindset and relationship with food has to change. Go to foodaddicts.org and look into the good addicts book. I have attended a meeting in ny area and plan to continue after surgery. Even though most of the stories I heard were extreme, I was Enlightened about a lot and I've changed my mindset about food. Surgery is not going to help if you aren't going to do the work.

Less than 1 week pre op and beginning to get nervous...
I am also scheduled for 10 Feb. I am the first surgery of the day too. I am not as nervous as I thought I would be. I'm more nervous about life after the surgery than I am about the actual procedure. I did have a moment where I thought that maybe I could do this on my own since I have lost 20 pounds in the 3 weeks I've been on the pre-op diet. Then my dad brought home my favorite chips and that thought quickly exited my mind! lol! But it's surgery and surgery can be nerve wrecking. But I believe the reward will be much greater than the risk. I don't know if you are a praying woman but if you are, Give it to God and rest easy, if you aren't, do whatever you normally would do when you need to calm your nerves. You will be so grateful you did this!! God Bless and see you on the losers bench!!

How Long Will It Take
Depends on the insurance and the practice. I started the process at the end of September and my surgery is 10 Feb. I had a 3 month supervised diet to do per my insurance. Had I not had to do that I could have probably had my surgery in November or December depending on the surgeon's schedule.

Stall from Hell- 1 Pound from Goal
Are you unhappy at 131 or this a competition to beat the scale? I've not been sleeved yet but in the past I focused so much on the scale that I sabotaged myself. Either I was sick from not eating or I gave up and just went back to the bad habits. Congrats on your success!!!!

Cheating on pre op?
Oh wow! Ok. I've lost 20 but my bmi is in the 50's.

You know you lost weight when
I'm 20 lbs down (still 1 week pre-op) and yesterday I put on a sweat suit that fit me pretty well 2 weeks ago and my mother looks at me and laughs. She said I looked like I had on my uncle's sweatsuit.....my uncle is easily 350 or more!!

Just woke up
God Bless!!! and Congrats!

@@jmccape how much had you lost?

Cheating on pre op?
I have cheated more than I would like to admit. I've mostly done right, 3 shakes a day and around 50oz of water (they count the shakes in my liquids) but that one meal sometimes isn't within the guidelines (4oz lean meat, 2 cups veggies). I have decided that for this last 7 days, I am going to try to do all shakes and water, maybe a pickle (because I am allowed those for snack and they are delish!!) I pray my liver shrinks enough!
