  1. It isn't so much about weight loss as it it about making sure you are prepared for the changes. They decide based upon your responses and commitment to the program if you will move forward. There are 9 steps once you are approved to be in the severe obesity program. I am at step 8 and I can tell you that it is a very long process.
  2. I am KP in Northwest. It is essentially an entire year of the program. First showing weight loss attempts for approval. Then group class and weight management for two months. After that another group class. Nutritionist and social workers twice meetings. Lab work and ultra sound. Then they meet to discuss if you are surgery ready. Meet surgeon and maybe get a date. Seriously takes an entire year. I forgot the sleep study. It is a long process.
  3. Hi Salem, Sorry to hear you are going through this. Seems like it might be worth a second opinion or asking some really pointed questions like, how long can I expect this, will it change with weight loss, is it really due to the surgery? Good luck and keep us posted, please.
  4. Congrats on closing in on a healthier life for yourself! Looks great on you!
  5. I don't have to do an endoscopy, but do have to get a gall bladder ultrasound. Anyone else?
  6. Although I have not had the surgery yet, I totally sympathize in regards to fear. I am not sure I am helped by the stories of those with complications, however, what I do continue to hear is that despite them, they would do it again. So, with that, I will go forward with the decision and hope for the best. I am comforted by the stories that it was not as bad as expected. It seems like the best course of action is to follow what the Dr says and not to deviate. I am all in on that one!
  7. You look absolutely fantastic. Great job on your very hard work!
  8. Good luck to you and your new life!
  9. Totally with you on that. Don't have a date yet. I see the NUT and social worker again on the 4th and then will get the referral to surgeon. I have lost 9 lbs since seeing them on the 13 of Aug and they told me that I had to show a loss. A good piece of advice was to pretend that I had the surgery already with regards to eating. I know sounds severe, but have been eating healthy choice meals since then for a calorie count if about 1100 a day. Seems to be working. Am concentrating on eating slowly and that seems to be helping too. I think I might be addicted to Water now too!
  10. Good for you! Hoping you have a speedy recovery and experience everything you hope for quickly!
  11. Please keep us up to date, PIK. All hoping the best for you!
  12. The waiting is sooo hard, but then it seems too close for comfort. Congrats on the big loss! I have not been that committed, but then, this is a journey! It is go time now, so am braving the low cal diet. Drinking water in the hopes that I can control the hunger. Keep us informed! Please....
  13. Thank you! I have began telling people that I choose to tell with mixed responses. Some of which ask if I am really fat enough? Wow. I guess I wear 270 lbs really well? Not! I feel every bit of it every hour every day. I am prepared for the stupid comments and decided that if I am Brave enough to do this, then I better be prepared for stupid. Ha ha. Besides, this isn't like something I should be ashamed of. Maybe I think telling makes it just that much more real? IDK. It is good to hear from you who have been doing this for awhile as it spurs me on towards the goal.
  14. Thanks to everybody! Green eyed-you give me some inspiration. I have to admit that I am pretty scared. Like what if I die? I will have chosen to do this to myself? UGG. I am close to seeing the surgeon so this is all becoming very real to me. This whole year has been preparation, but now it is game on! I am currently doing a 1000 calorie diet in order to show that I can follow a diet. I am on day 4 and am worried about my success on the week end. It seems like it is easier working. LOL!
  15. Thanks, Sugar free. I hope I didn't offend. That is the way it was described to me by the nutritionist. It is a tool I wish to use for my co-morbidities as well. Thanks for your honesty. Sounds like you are doing great!
  16. Hi Everyone, I am new to this site. I am in the process of preparation and actually almost ready to see the surgeon (still have one more appointment with nutritionist/social worker in two weeks). I read many success stories, and they are encouraging. I have a few fears about surgery itself, especially the fact that this is elective. This year has been about preparation for this, but I am really wanting to know how many of you would do it again (regardless of how long ago) and how many had serious complications. I have read a few of these am really looking for honesty regardless of how brutal that might be. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!
