  1. Small update: day 7 and I've lost 20 lbs, which is the weight loss from pre op diet, now minus the fluid gain from surgery! Now I start the true journey post op! So happy! Current weight: 245! Goal weight: 162
  2. Happy to hear you are well! I have my first post op appt 9/30. I'm looking forward to asking the doctor if I can do purer now. I'm so tired of liquids, particularly the Protein shakes. I bought three cases of Premier Protein drinks from costco. They have 30 grams of protein, but I've burnt out on them. I love Soups but I can't get my protein in without adding the shakes. Do you get your protein requirement in? Take care, Joli
  3. Hi Beth, That's amazing you walked 6 1/2 miles! I love hearing how well folks are doing! I'm sleeping great, which is kind of new for me. I have a CPAP which helps. My sister is visiting me this weekend. She had a gastric sleeve 12/27/13, and has met her goal. She looks amazing and has been a great inspiration to me. She has also been encouraging me to walk! We did 1/2 mile 2x yesterday. Her diet is different than mine to a degree in that she isn't at risk for dumping. But she is eating pretty much how I imagine I will eat. She and my husband went out to dinner last night and she brought home a container of leftovers that probably be another 2 meals! Cheap date right? I hope all have the best day ever!
  4. Hi Beth, I would love to,do the Disney half marathon. I can't run but I can walk. Were you looking for a running buddy or will you be walking? I live in the OC, so my only challenge would be to train for it. I'm up to 1/2 mile today! Sounds like an attainable goal.
  5. Hi Friends, My name is Joli. I had my RNY on 9/22/14. I am 6 days post op, and today I feel almost normal! I am walking about 1/2 mile per day, and boy does it help get the gas out! I'm drinking liquids but looking forward to the purée stage. I love cottage cheese and eggs! I would love to be a part of this group. The support group out of the hospital I had surgery in meets twice per month and includes dietician, but more like a class than support. Sharing struggles and successes and day to day life is what I need also!
  6. Thank you! Good to know. Some folks were saying they were taking 6 weeks off and I thought I might not have taken enough time.
  7. Hi! I'm 6 days post op and feel great because I walked 1/2 mile this morning. Flat surface, sidewalk, neighborhood. I'm just wondering how to gage the distance. I know we are all different, but I don't want to overdo, but I also want to be sure I'm doing enough. Would love to hear from you all!
  8. Now you are both 3-ish weeks post. How are you doing? I'm 6 days out and feeling great, but I don't want to eat anything. I'm tired of the protein drinks, and am on liquid for another week. What did you do for the liquid portion?
  9. Hi! I'm 6 days post op and feeling terrific. I was able to walk 1/2 mile, flat street, shop a little, and visit with my sister. I haven't lost any weight yet but I think I gained a lot from the IV fluids. I have read this from other folks on the site. Only a few days left for this month. I hope all you September Surgery patients do as well as I!
  10. I'm 6-days post op and haven't lost a pound and have gained from IV fluids! I can't wait to see the scale move down! 40 lbs in three and a half weeks is amazing and impressive!
  11. Shop on line by taking your measurements. There is a clothing store just for shorts, bathing suits, everything you'll need in Aruba! Wait so you can get the thrill of buying just the right size. I love Land's End, Talbots, Chicos. You can even put in your measurements on Land's End, and it will make an avatar of you. You can even put in your body type, hair color and style! It'll be fun!
  12. Hi Winning by Losing! I'm so impressed with your journey! I wanted to ask did you stay home a total of three weeks or one week plus 2 days? I'm planning on taking two weeks, and I'm feeling pretty good, I'm just a bit weak. Today is day 6 post op, which gives me a week more at home. I think it will be ok, but I wanted to double check with you.
  13. Happy to hear! I'm on day 6, and feeling great! I went on a short shopping trip with my sister and am resting now! How are you feeling!
  14. Hey Paigecoop! I'm five days post and feeling great! How are you? Jolisue
  15. Just to clarify my post above, I would have gerd the rest of my life with the sleeve, so we opted for the bypass.
  16. I had a large hiatal hernia so my surgeon would only do bypass. He believes I would suffer from gerd the rest of my life. When the surgeon did the surgery, he had to pull half my stomach through the whole, and use mesh to repair it. It took longer but all is well. Good luck! It is very common!
  17. Checking with my fellow 9/22 surgery friends? How is everyone doing? Today is day 5 post op for us. I'm feeling better! Day three wasn't pleasant, and might be my hardest day. Today is good so far at 7:00 AM. My gas pain in my shoulder is almost gone! My tummy pain just feels like I did too many sit ups, and the fluid retention and abdominal bloating have gone Down just a bit. Warning; TMI topic: has anyone gone poop yet? I haven't and I'm a bit concerned. Five days is a long time for me. Wishing you all speedy recoveries and feelings of contentment and peace.
  18. I'm doing well! Today is day 5, and I'm starting to feel almost normal! The gas pains are much better! I'm sleeping well, still on liquid diet so that's not different. ☺️ I'm getting in my three protein shakes and water. I used my phone to time when I could sip. Now I'm just drinking when I feel I can. Overall I'd say I'm on the mend!
  19. You are not nuts at all! Obstructive sleep apnea is very harmful. I never knew I had it but was tested and I have severe sleep apnea. I use a CPAP and am quite happy. My husband says I'm not snoring and the machine really is quiet. Apparently once I lose a whole lot of weight I might no longer have apnea. When you stop breathing at night, your brain, organs aren't getting oxygen. Over time that can really do damage. I'm happy you were able to get that data because it sounds like you have sleep apnea.
  20. I had a hiatal hernia repair and the surgeon had to pull my stomach down from the chest cavity into the abdomen. That is sore.
  21. Day 4 post op. Still on liquid so shakes and really thin soup. I'm doing well but am still full of gas from surgery. It is almost gone so day five should be the best yet!
  22. I'm blending soups and really enjoying them. Sprinkled with a little Parmesan cheese and I'm happy!
  23. Hi Snowblue, It seems I have no idea how to navigate this forum. I got an email saying you asked how I was, but I can't find where? Anyhow, wondering how you are doing as well?
