  1. So I'm reading a lot about insurance not covering the total cost of surgery. My evidence of coverage only states $100 per admittance copay for inpatient. Does that mean that's all I'm going to have to pay? Or am I going to get stuck with thousands of dollars owed? No one has told me about any costs, and I'm already approved and scheduled!
  2. Hello there! I am 4 weeks out today. I'm allowed to eat pretty much whatever I want at this point, as long as I chew it really well. I tried to eat some carne asad, though, and it just would not go down. So I have to stay away from really dry things. My HUGE frustration is this ridiculous stall. I lost 12 pounds the first week.... and I haven't lost anything since. My energy is decent, though. I walk, walk, walk. I eat maybe 800 calories a day and get in all my protein. So I am having a really hard time understanding the stall. Oh, and I wasn't hungry until this week. Now all of a sudden at 3-4 hours I get hungry. Thankfully it doesn't take much to make me full.

  4. I asked a nurse at the surgeon's office over the phone if I should take out my Nuvaring, and she told me yes just because birth control causes higher chances of blood clots. Then I called my prescribing doctor, as directed by the office, and he said not to worry about it since I will be up and moving right away and I don't want to be on my period during surgery not knowing what my body will do after going off of birth control. What was your experience with this?

    Wanted: September Sleevers!

4 weeks away for me! September 5th. 2 weeks until the liquid diet starts. I'm really scared, but for dumb reasons like pain and the drain grosses me out.
  6. So you didn't take it out until AFTER your surgery? I was instructed to do it a month before.
  7. I'm not having sex for quite a while, so it's ok. Single lady here! I just use it to make life easier.
  8. I had my pre-op nutrition class yesterday, and they showed us a drain and now I'm so scared! It grosses me out! I'm having to overcome so many phobias for this surgery.I hate needles, blood, and I can't sleep when I'm not home. Any tips, encouragement, help with this?

    Drain Phobia

I will do that. Here's to hoping! I'm scared out of my mind, but I know it'll be worth it.

    Drain Phobia

I will try to ask for xanax, but in my experience I can never get anxiety medications. They're so stingy! My surgeon doesn't do a leak test the day after, he does it during the surgery then watches the color of the fluid. I'm not afraid of the pain, I'm just extremely squeemish. Everything grosses me out, makes me faint or want to vomit.
  11. Why were you in ICU?
  12. This is who I'm going to, and I really like his office. He's really straight forward, and IMO you don't get to spend much time with him. That's fine, I need a good surgeon, not a friend. Everyone in his office has been extremely nice and helpful, this far. My surgery is scheduled September 5th with him.

Anthem Blue Cross CA out of pocket?

I pay $143/mo for this policy, and my employer pays the rest. I'm not sure if that's a lot to pay for a policy.

Anthem Blue Cross CA out of pocket?

I have no deductibles, only $15 copay to see the doctor and surgeon. $100 copay for inpatient admittance. I haven't had to pay for any testing so far, my medical group even paid my psych evaluation and stupid program fee that my insurance doesn't cover.

    Wanted: September Sleevers!

I just got my date! September 5th! I have so many appointments between now and then.
  17. What insurance do you have that approved you so fast? My package was submitted Thursday, too.

    Is anyone else hungry

Wow, to me that seems a bit ridiculous. I was just told to eat how I'll eat after surgery, but normal portions.

    Wanted: September Sleevers!

Hi All! My package was just submitted to insurance Tuesday, July 22nd for approval. Right now the surgeon is scheduling for August, but I requested September because of work conflicts. As long as there are no hiccups with the approval, I'll be joining the ranks of September Sleevers! I really doubt I will get denied. I have Anthem Blue Cross California, which only requires BMI over 40 without comorbidities, attempts at prior weight loss, and a psych evail, which I pass for all of those. I'm dying to get my approval so I can start this journey! I started my appointments April 17th with my PCP, who told me I had to do 6 months of classes. I started my classes then randomly got the referral to my surgeon. I went in for my consultation on June 30th, and their coordinator said I don't need the classes. Oy vey! Just goes to show no one knows what they're doing.

    SUBMITTED TO INSURANCE

I was notified on 7/22 that my package was being submitted to Anthem Blue Cross CA. I have no comorbidities, BMI 44, and MANY attempts at weight loss, including a year of Weight Watchers. I hope for an approval! And quickly.
