  1. My starting weight was very close to yours. I have recently been banded and am very glad that I did. DON'T SET YOURSLEF UP FOR FAILURE!!!! TELL YOURSELF POSITIVE THINGS!! YOU CAN DO THIS!! It is good to be informed about possible risks, but when you decide to proceed (and it looks like you have) plan on succeeding. This website is great for support and encouragement. When you are down just come here. You will not fail!! You are going to lose that weight for the last time. I can't wait to see your progress.
  2. Hey Griz Girl. Glad you are doin well. I was banded one day ahead of you and each day gets better and better. I have a follow up with my doctor tommorow. I can't wait to see everyone's progress.
  3. Liquid Tylenol and my heating pad have been a lifesaver for me. Along with gas x. I was banded on Tuesday, October 24. I have had a lot of gas, but each day it is better. today I feel very human again. I am back to homeschooling my 8 year old and caring for my 11 month old. I am past the post anesthesia fog that I felt for a few days. I am on liquids for 1 week, mushies for 1 week, soft foods for 1 week and then I can start adding regular foods. I can't really say that I am hungry. I am just ready to chew!! In fact, one of my favorites is mac and cheese. My son wanted that for lunch today, so I fixed it. I actually put a bite in my mouth and chewed it and then spit it out. I know sounds wrong, but I am no longer thinking that I NEED mac and cheese. Overall things are going great!! Oh yeah, pounds are dropping too!!!
  4. I waqs walking with a friend across the park yesterday and my 8 year old son yelled, "Mom, you are already getting skinnier!" I was embarressed, but jumping up and down on the inside. If my 8 year old notices then that's a pretty good sign. When we got to the car I asked him where he thought I was skinnier, and he said in my legs.
  5. O2BSlim, I was banded on Wed, Oct 24. I fell great except that blasted gas. I know what you mean. I feel like if I could just burp really big I would be all good. I feel like I am going to burp and then get this horrible pain in my chest. Then it all goes away. I have been passing A LOT of gas today and that seems to have made the other gas pressure better too. So glad to hear you are doing so well. I think this gas thing is to be expected. It to shall PASS. (pun intended LOL)
  6. I wish you the best tommorrow, Karen. Let us know how everything goes!!
  7. That is what I thought, but I starteed second guessing. I just don't want to do something wrong. Thanks for the reassurance. Amy
  8. I was banded on October 24. On the 2nd day post op my doc said that I could eat "Soup at Hand". It is a soup made by Cambells that you can sip. On the first day I could only drink about a third of it at a sitting. Now I can drink 3/4 to 1 whole container. 1 container is 10 ounces. Depending on which one you get, the calories range from 80 - 140. It is very thin. Definately could be sipped through a straw. Can liquids stretch your pounch in the beginning??? The only other things I am eating are sf jello, sf popsicles, and water. I just don't want to stretch my band out before I really get started!!! Advise please.
  9. Thanks for the reassurance. I don't see any signs of infection. I think I am fine. Thanks, Amy
  10. My doctor's office called back. As long as no signs of infection I am good. What a relief.
  11. I can finally join the banded thread!! How cool. I was banded on October 24. I am doing great. I am having a little drainage at the port incision site, but the doc says thats ok. I feel better everyday. I am soooooo excited to have my band!
  12. I feel better this morning. I think the walking at Walmart probably helped. One of the reasons I went was because of the gas pain. I think I just stayed too long. I am having much less gas today. I slept very well last night. I am having a little watery/bloody drainage from my port incision site. I have a cal in to the doctor. I am hoping it is no big deal. I just put a peice of gauze and tape over it. It's not draining a lot, but it is draining. I will keep you posted. have a great day!!
  13. I had my band place on Wednesday the 24th. I am feeling great! I still have some gas, but it is improving everyday. Last night I started having some bloody/watery drainage from my port incision site. It doesn't look infected or anything like that. It is a little puffy and I'm starting to see some bruising. I have a call in to my doctor, but was just wondering if this is pretty common or should I be concerned. Otherwise, I just feel like I am doingg great!!
  14. I am feeling better each day. Yesterday we went to Walmart. Probably not a great idea for 1 day post op. I felt pretty rough last night, but I slept much better and am feeling good this morning. I am having a little bloody drainage from one of my incision sights. I don't know if that is of concern or not. I have a call in to my doctor. I am also going to start a thread to see if anyone has had that experience. Tralynn - Your surgery will be here before you know it. Hang in there on the liquid diet. It doesn't last forever.
  15. I am doing ok. Having a lot of gas pain. We decided to go to walmart last night, and that was too much. I plan on taking it very easy today. Overall, I am doing very well.
  16. Yellowsing, I am doing well. Tonight we decided to go to Walmart. That was a bit much for 1 day post op, so I am kinda paying for it tonight. Still a lot of gas, but overall I am doing great. Thanks, Amy
  17. I can get peppermint tea. I don't know about degas, but we are going to Walmart tonight so I will look for it. Thanks so much. Amy
  18. I am good. Quite a bit of gas pain today. DS and I have walked around the outside of the house several times. I think I am doing very well. I am starting to belch and pass some gas. I will be glad when I get rid of all this gas. Your 4 "sleepy times"(as we call them at my house) will pass before youknow it and you will be in band land. I can't wait to hear about all of your success.
  19. Hi, My name is Amy. I live in Pittsburg, Tx. It is about 1hr 15 minutes south of Paris, Texas. I was banded yesterday by Dr Querry in Pittsburg. I just love her.
  20. Ok, It's day number 2 and I am doing well. I am really sore. The place that hurts the worst is probably my middle back. Not sure why unless it's from laying on the operating table. Overall I am still doing great. I am fixing to try some chicken broth with unjury in it and see how i handle that. Planning for a great day!!
  21. Here is a link to the thread I posted when I returned home. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f84/banded-today-43823/ Since then, I am doing ok. The gas pains are a little worse tonight. Laying flat is not comfortable. I am wired for some reason. THANKFULLY, I have had absolutely no nausea. They gave me some zofran post op, and I have phenergan at home, but haven't needed it. I even refused a phenergan shot before leaving the hospital because I have no nausea. They took me back for surgery at about 8:30 this morning. I went to the nursing floor at noon and came home at about 5p. I have only had Water, 1 popsicle and1/2 container of SF Jello, but I am not hungary at all. The gas pain is in my chest, back, and left shoulder. It is tolerable, not too bad. I have only taken 1000mg of tylenol since I got home. I am sore, but overall things went MUCH better than I had anticipated. Best of luck to you. Keep me posted on your progress.
  22. It acts as a funnel. Liquids can go through without difficulty. Solid foods sit in the pounch and digest. This makes you full longer and also limits the amount of food you can eat. If you add liquid to your meals then it mixes with the solid food helping it to go through the "funnel" more like a liquid. When used as directed by your doc the band should work 100% of the time. I think your doc is just making you aware that the band is a tool. You still have to do the work. In my mind, I think of it like swimming across the ocean. Why would I swim if there is a boat waiting on me at the shore. The boat(like the band) is my tool. I still must care for it and guide it to be successful. This is just my understanding of how this all works. I was just banded today, so I don't have a lot of experience to share. Hope this helps.

  24. Ask you doc about ice cream. I don't want ice cream because milk products tend to "gunk up" in your throat. They would be hard for me to tolerate anytime soon, but everyone is different. My throat is sore, too. It is from the breathing tube used during surgery. I have been sucking on halls cough droops this evening.
