Summer Reading
My mom used to have a copy. I haven't read it since the '70s. One of my favorites is Ann Morrow Lindberg's Gift of the Sea. I give it as a graduation gift often.

Worst month of my life
I am so sorry for your loss. I agree, be gentle with yourself. When you are able, you may want to consider some grief counseling. It can be very helpful. My old church used to have a really good grief recovery group. Sending hugs.

Why do some folks try to ruin this forum?
Me too! I just did a Trader Joes run and they have mango coconut caramel corn. I almost cried when I saw it. Yes I know this is off topic, but conflict makes me nervous and I babble when nervous. I met a family of ducks today at the University of Miami campus they weren't old enough to drink beer so I bought them a box of cereal which they really enjoyed its raining here wow thunder and lightning palm trees swaying now the dog is scared maybe a bone will help has anyone ever tried a lychee they are awesome but so expensive the guy wanted 28 bucks for a big bag so we went with the smaller one Ok.... Is it over? If not look at the duckie picture and smile smile smile! :) ImageUploadedByBariatricPal1465671082.408363.jpg Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I was just at Trader Joe's this morning where they were giving out samples of the mango coconut popcorn. It was a little cup of magic. Oh my goodness. Bites of bliss. I didn't buy a bag of it precisely because I knew I'd be tempted to eat the whole bag. We did get the mango bar bites and the mango macarons for treats because both are fairly reasonable with their calories, fat, and carbs. The macarons have 15 carbs per serving, but that's for three pretty macarons. My favorite purchase from the TJ mango mania is a mango tangerine candle. I think it was around $3, and it smells precisely like the Blue Capri Volcano candle at Anthropologie that is $14 for the exact same size. I'm burning it right now, and it's brightening up this day of "June Gloom." I find that delighting other senses helps me to not overindulge in things that make my taste buds sing. Hmmm. I was thinking of making a thread about favorite TJ buys. Maybe I'll go do that now. I love the pic of the ducks. WHAT? There is a candle????? Running out door NOW! Ooooooo please start the TJ thread! I'm kinda afraid where to post it (gulp) because it may have been asked before. Heh. I'm. So. Just. Kidding. I wish you all love each other as much as I love you. You are the family I never really had. Some good, some a bit naughty, I learn from everyone. You make me smile. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App How did I miss this? How long is mango madness going on?

A PPI is for acid. My surgeon prescribed one for me to take in the first 6 months after surgery. Did you have a hiatal hernia repair? What does your surgeon say about your symptoms?

Sleeved 2012 no support gained 30lbs [emoji22] in last year
This is great to hear!

Eating
Based on your description it is hard to figure out what you mean How far out are you? What phase? What are you eating? Are you taking small bites, chewing thoroughly and eating slowly? Are you taking a PPI?

Hot sauce
I don't think I had any restrictions on hot sauce. At 3 months out I think you would be safe in trying a little to see how it goes.

Why I'm here
Welcome! What a beautiful family! You definitely have a great incentive to be healthy. I am a bit older than you and was a fairly healthy fat woman until I wasn't. I was sleeved April 20, 2015 in the US and couldn't be happier with my surgery, recovery, and results so far. It has saved my life. The worst part of my experience was the pre-op anxiety of not knowing what to expect since this was my first surgery ever. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Doing Something for the First Time
My sister lives in Chattanooga and two years ago she did the hike in for the lodge that is at the top of a mountain with a girlfriend (I can't remember the name). This past year she did it with her husband and kids. I want to be able to the hike someday.

Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAA)
It seems that you would have to take an awful lot of them to get enough Protein. What kind of problem are you having getting in protein? I still think the best thing to do is discuss this with your surgeon and/or NUT.

Feeling desperate, need info!
It sounds like you are having a really rough time. Do you have a therapist? You may want to consider talking to your PCP, too. To me it sounds like you may be depressed. As someone who has struggled with depression, I highly recommend that you talk to someone. There is help available.

Seriously, how do you get all of your protein in?!
Ditto. Everything tastes better with some melted cheese!

Suggestions for staying focused while metting insurance requirements
Thank you!!!! I have to keep reminding myself that I am closer than I was before I took the first step. At least now I do have a timeline. I am hoping for a January surgery. One of the things I am struggling with is that my patient advocate with my surgeon told me my insurance company doesn't really care if you loose (just not to loose big #'s), don't loose, or even gain. They just want a 7 month program completed. Which I guess is good because it doesn't put any pressure on me, but it also makes the process seem really pointless since there aren't any specific standards. I've set a personal goal of 20-25 lbs and to focus on establishing clean eating habits. Nothing you do between now and surgery is pointless even if the reason isn't readily apparent. I have learned so much about myself, my health, the disease of obesity, nutrition, etc. while going through the WLS process. It isn't very often we really get to do such a comprehensive review of our health.

Why do some folks try to ruin this forum?

Love it! I'd love to hear about what books you are going to read.

Been Givin the run around
Personally, I am not a fan of diet pills, but as long as you are being supervised by your doctor you should be ok for a short time. I highly recommend that you: Wean yourself off of carbonation (including diet pop) and caffeine; Drink a ton of Water (at LEAST 64 oz. but aim for more); Take your vitamins; Focus on eating Protein and non-starchy vegetables; occasionally substitute a Protein shake for a meal; and Exercise. Best of luck. Keep us updated on how you are doing.

Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAA)
No, I have never heard of this. My question is if you are having trouble with Protein supplements how would this kind of supplement be any different. It sounds like a protein supplement. The best thing to do is talk to your surgeon and/or NUT about your difficulties.

Anyone over the age of 40 NOT have loose skin?
I am over 40 and in the process of losing. I do have loose skin but nothing that keeps me from doing anything. Some loose skin is to be expected. Keep in mind that you will stall periodically throughout the process of losing weight. Many people get upset when they stall, treating it as something that interrupts the process. Stalls are when our bodies adjust to the weight loss and part of that adjustment includes tightening the skin. It is my understanding that you will continue to see changes after you start maintenance, too. That is why most plastic surgeon's may want you to be at a stable weight for a period of time before surgery. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall.

This is awesome. If I ever wear a bikini it will also be the first time (except for one time I wore one at home in the wooded backyard by myself to work on my tan many, many years ago).

Do you journal? Pre-op is a great time to use a journal to process your feelings and emotions, write a bucket list, envision what you want your future to look like, etc. Also, if you struggle with eating issues, emotional eating, compulsive eating, etc. you may want to find a good therapist and/or attend bariatric support groups or recovery group meetings (like Overeaters Anonymous OA.org).
