  1. WOW! You have had such a rough time havent you. My goodness to be such a young girl! Well I pray that this is the last time you have to go under the knife. I pray you heal quickly and a year from now you are sporting a bikini!
  2. I will be praying for you Becky. I had 2 open surgeries and totally dont wish that on any body! When I was 32 I had a 16c tumor so had to have a partial hysterectomy. The butcher - i mean "Doctor" did the surgery the old fashioned way by cutting me from belly button to love muffin! All he did was remove the tumor and the ovary it was surrounding. 6 weeks later I was back in the dr office being told I was needing to get a complete hysterectoimy so I had to go back under the knife and have another open surgery. The first time I felt like someone ran over me with a car. I was bruised all over my stomach - found out I was alergic to steristrips when my skin starting blistering and peeling off! It took me at LEAST 2 weeks before I could move without wanting to scream. Now the 2nd time around I had a different doctor. He in fact did a complete hysterectomy, did bone scrapings and also removed several lymphnodes. Was back up and running in just a few days.It was amazing the differences in the 2 surgeries. A couple years ago I had gallbladder removal via lapriscopic surgery - then had a twisted bowel surgery last year same way. Both of those were very easy and recovery was a breeze. Little sore but nothing a few days didnt take care of. For me being tired was the biggest issue! Seems like you are tired for a couple of weeks. Made mistake of trying to go back to work too early every single time - only to regret it by end of day! So Becky - you should be up and running by the 22nd of August! Just be sure to get as much rest as you can and listen to your body. Dont be super woman!
  3. So placed online order for the Unjury sample kit today. Our kit from the Dr office wont last but a few days so figure I had better get some other stuff. Unjury seems to have the most positive comments about it - and they offered a tester kit so I dont have to get a large tub of something I may not like!
  4. I was getting tired of going back and forth between bypass and sleeve rooms. For those that dont know I am still not sure what surgery will actually be done until the dr gets me on the table - so I have been trying to stay up on both topics. Fact is that no matter what surgery you are having dones really all the same in the long run! So why seperate everyone?? to me support is support. I know that sleevers will have some variances to bypassers - but we are ALL WLS people...

  6. Becky our prayers are with you! Please do let us know how you are as soon as you are up to it. I am also planning on deep cleaning this weekend so I dont have to worry about it for a few weeks. My kids will be so happy since I usually have them doing baseboards every weekend! lol. Have been putting together a hospital bag and have made hotel reservations. We live about 40 miles from Hospital but because I have to be there at 5:30AM and I live in Atlanta - I am staying close to hotel so I dont have to leave my house at 3AM!
  7. FYI - I also created a room - ALL IN August!
  8. I am also a smoker so I totally understand onmyway! Though I have to be totally nicotine free for surgery or my dr wont do it. He said Nicotine causes issues with healing AND smokers are more prone to leaks!! So, I am on day 2 smoke free. Think the head stuff is the hardest part - not really going through "withdrawals" so much as I am having to talk myself out of negotiating reasons that I could smoke for another day or two if I wanted because nicotine is undetectable in urin after 4 days...LOL I am having surgery on the 5th and I really waited until last minute to stop smoking even though it would have been best to quite at least 2 weeks prior. SO I am disappointed that I didnt start last week. I finally had to tell myself that if I cant give up smoking how the heck do I plan on sticking to a healthier lifestylel?? I am going to do what I need to do!
  9. Hey Jen - I am farther along than you - getting ready to have RNY on Aug 5th. But I am new to everything as well and would be happy to help you in any way I can! Where are you at in the process?
  10. August 5th - 1 week from today! YEAH!!!!
  11. 1 Week from today! Went to preop yesterday and got the tour, the diet instructions and kit. On the downhill slide from here! Good luck to each and every one of you. Please let us all know how you are doing. I will have my phone in the hospital but for some reason cant post from my phone - so I will post as soon as I get home and let you know how I am doing.
  12. I am 46 years old - 260 lbs - I agree that even though our friends and family offer their support - they dont understand REALLY. I dont think anyone who is not going through this themselves. It has been such a roller coaster and I have not even had the surgery yet. I find myself trying not to talk too much about it to those around me because I think they are tired of hearing about it! I am scared, excited, worried and a lot of other feelings I cant explain. I am in info overload - yet feel I dont know enough. Have heard all the horror stories from friends who knew friends who didnt do well - you know there are people out there that want to scare you into not doing this. What I find though is those people generally weigh 120 lbs and have never fought weight in their whole life! They dont know how it feels to be someone else under all this fat! They also assume that if I would "watch what I eat" I could do this on my own. Well I have always tried to watch what I eat. I havent had a fried food in probably 15 years. I am not a binge eater nor an emotional eater. Though I do tend to graze when bored and I do have a sweet tooth from hell! I dont eat 3 hamburgers and a large fry with a diet coke in a single sitting! I do know I am fat because of the things I have put in my body and because I dont exercise. I also have thyroid issues and other health issues over the years that have added the weight as well. When I was 32 I had cancer - the treatments caused a 50lb weight gain in just a very short time. I have never been able to get rid of all of that even after all these years. They dont know crap! No I never was the type to just eat a small salad - but I also wasnt the type to over do it either! Anyway - none of us need to hear those types of comments. If we had not tried diets - starving ourselves only to gain more back once we figured out that being hungry all the time wasnt working. Do they really think this whole process is just a simple walk in the park? Do they not realize that we are cutting our insides in a last ditch effort to create a healthier happier person? Well that is the end of my rant..lol. I am here for you and anyone else who needs me. We can do this - we will do this - and we will be success stories!! You and me both. My date is also august 5th and scared to death.
  13. Emlatta - thats great that you are same day! What are your stats? Weight/age etc? Love the idea of having someone at exact same time to talk with! Lets deffinately stay in touch so we can to a side by side comparrision of how we are each doing! You and me both. My date is also august 5th and scared to death.
  14. Monday is Pre-OP! Then surgery on the 5th! 10 more days!!!!! Scared but super excited.
  15. I havent had my bypass surgery yet - but I am almost an expert on abdominal surgery! I have had 4 so far!! A coupl of things that have always helped me are: 1) If you ar able to get in a bath tub now - sit in warm Water as deep as you can get it. It takes pressure off your body. Swimming pool would be an alternate solution if available 2) Heating pad! 3) the support band is a great option though I just carried around a small pillow to use for the times when I needed to cough or just to help support my stomach. Hope these help!
  16. Congrats Missbaisah and Tobi50! Counting down the days myself..2 weeks from Today!!!!! OMG!!!
  17. Congrats on the date!!!! So there are quite a few of us - thats wonderful - means we have more people to swap stories with as we go along. I like the idea of learning from people going through at same time!
  18. Becky I am kinda hoping for the bypass myself. After reading and learning more about it these past weeks - I am not afraid of it anymore and in fact think it would suit me much better then the sleeve. Sweets has always been the hardest thing for me to let go of - the bypass would help to make me suffer if I dont let them go! though I also know some people are still able to tolerate them - but I wont risk getting sick... I'm only on a 3 day liquid diet, my surgeon tailors it to your starting BMI. food funerals are very common and I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm enjoying some foods that I love knowing it could be the last time ever if I have bad dumping and if not at least for a while. Though, if you get the sleeve you will definitely be able to eat your favorite foods after you heal. I'd also be lying if I said I'm not praying hard for you to get a bypass, I know you wanted the sleeve but your GERD worries me so much since I had the same thing and am now in bad shape 2 years later and revising. Don't overdo the food funerals because you don't want to put on weight prior to surgery but I don't think it's too naughty to enjoy some food before you have surgery
  19. Hey Amy - another one that will be going through this at same time!!! I am scared to pack up any clothes. I have always been a shop-a-holic but have not allowed myself to buy any more fat clothes. Planning on wearing what I have until they fall off of me. THEN I am going on a shopping spree!
  20. I must be really lucky - and hate to put this out here - but my doc didnt put me on ANY diet prior to surgery. My only restriction is nothing after midnight the night before - which is standard for any surgery! And seems like I am eating everything I can get my hands on! Feel like I am cheating myself by having all these "this is the last time I will get to eat this" moments!! Anyone else who is not to dieting stage yet having same issue?
  21. Congrats everyone on your choice to take this ride! I did take measurements and plan on doing it on a monthly basis..And I also had my best friend take before pics. Scary to think I will be havng surgery 2 weeks from tomorrow!!!!
  22. Seems like I am ALWAYS reading either posts in here - watching youtube videos or talking about this! I know my family and friends are tired of hearing about it - but the more I learn the more I want to learn....cant seem to get enough input on the whole things. Everyone's stories are fascinating!
  23. So Skylarx - you seem to be the closest to my numbers as far as weight/height and goal! So I am going to keep my eyes on your posts for sure!!
