Any may banders
I thought I had the last meal issue as the day before I started my liver shrinking diet it was my b-day, but I just didn't have any appetite that day, and ended up not wanting anything outrageous. Now I am on an Atkins type of liver shrinking diet, so I monitor my carb and Protein intake. I can have between 40-50 grams of carbs daily and 70-120 grams of protein. While eating low fat. It has given me an opportunity to start to cooking (mainly baking because I am a baker) using almond or coconut flour. I have made muffins, cakes, bread, and all sorts of items that my children have no clue they are not made with the traditional white flour. This weekend is my son's b-day so the people coming over to Celebrate with us are indulging in these foods too. Now I had read a blog post or article can't remember which, on what you said about the fear of vomiting in front of others and that is the reason why bandsters tend not to move out of the mushy food stage. The friends who have been banded only 1 of them expressed this fear and this is why she moves away from eating anything that is not soft. I would love to hear from other bandsters as I know it can be done to a certain extent.

May 2 Banding
That is great, I can't believe May is already here. I still have 12 more days before I have mine. So, still a week and some days to go on my liver shrinking diet. I have started to explore my low carb cooking techniques and made awesome almond pancakes today, which will be my family's new fav food!!! I am going to try my hand at a low carb cake, my son's b-day is the day before I have surgery so I will be doing it for his special day, if its a success then I have another recipe under my belt. Who else has tried any new recipes before surgery coming up??

May 2 Banding
Being nervous is natural. I know I am and I am counting down the days until I go to the hospital for this surgery. Recovery is hard but as long as you know you are not alone and use the support system you will do great!!! everyone on the boards have been nice and are a great deal of support!!!

Sick and Liver Shirking Diet
Thanks guys I think it must be a sinus infection because I (and my 22 month old) ran fevers last night. Today I have had a sinus pressure headache all day with no relief. I have been drinking ginger tea like its going out of style and it has helped settle my tummy. It will be my new friend, now how to get rid of this sinus pressure headache

Sick and Liver Shirking Diet
So I am almost into my second week of the liver shirking diet. I have felt vary nausea today and last night. It's common with me and I normally have a some type of bread (pita or toast) with butter or peppermint candy to help settle my tummy down. But on the liver shrinking diet there is no bread allowed (or candy for that matter). What are some other things I can try.

May lap-band
I think I might be the only one doing the liver shrinking diet right now, but I am into day 6 and have found my appreciate is lost...... I keep track of my food on myfittnesspal (im samirax5 on there) and each day under calories. This week I know has been stressful in general and maybe that is influencing if I want to eat or not. Or maybe because I am so limited I don't even want the items that are allowed, but iv yet to crave anything. I am trying news way to be creative over here with it. But wondering how is everyone else fairing out?

May lap-band
That is great your doing this. It can be so much helpful during the process. I am using the internet to prepare I have known a few people who have done surgery over the years and they have really came in handy. Although its hard for them to remember right before surgery, LOL! Now since this is surgery the idea in my head will stress me out, everyone I have had I get stressed over. Well I have only had one outside of a c/s but the thought of not being awake while things are occurring to me is the stresser for me.

Anyone go to Mexico for fill?
I will be having surgery in May. I am about 6 hours away from Dr. Kuri in Mexico and was wondering if the first one I should plan to travel back or not. If you have gone down yourself do you drive all the way or does his team still pick you up. Thanks!!!

May 2 Banding
I am being banded May 3, so with you all I am on day 3 of my 4 week liver shrinking diet!!!

Optimal Time
Thanks Tara. That is true here it would only be done through day surgery. I know my coordinator said that if I choose to travel the next day I have to stop every hour so I don't developed a blood clot. We are about 5.5 hours from the location so stopping every hour isn't that much to add on to our trip. Thanks for reminding me about how its done here.

May lap-band
I do not have any clear liquids and was given the choice to do the shakes or my own meals. I have to keep my carb count down to between 40-50 each day. On that note I did by several low sodium broth because they were on sale at Kroger this week, I got chicken, beef, and veggie stocked up on them for the first few days of surgery. Their other Soups are on sale too in case anyone was thinking ahead ! bobmarge how long are you doing your preop diet?

May lap-band
Wow I am so sorry to hear this. Trust me I understand your frustration. Often times our system reactive instead of proactive to most things. It's seems logical to approve a person for weight loos in order to prevent the person from other issues such as diabetes and heart conditions which are more costly then just performing the WLS. I hope you do not go into debit but I know how important it is to get this done.

Optimal Time
I am going to be banded in Mexico in May. I will be at the hospital for two nights and their is an option to stay longer. I was wondering how long you guys spent in the hospital if their was no complications? I was thinking to extend the time for 2 days but wanted some opinions. TIA!

May lap-band
Thanks Betty_s, when do you start your pre-op diet? I will look at some of these recipes and see which one works out in carb portion.

1 Month Before getting Banded!
That is good, I finally just switched to an insurance that even offers it because my insurance that I have had for the past 15 years does not. Even still with switching it would be waiting another year and I need help now! We could be band buddies since we are so close in dates!!!

May lap-band
My date is May 3 and I start my liver shrinking diet on Saturday. I am doing 4 weeks worth of it and its different then what I have read from the rest so far. I have to count my carbs and eat more Protein. I can do the shakes too but they have to be within a certain carb limit. The only starch that I can have are from low start veggies and fruits and then flexseed bread or muffin. I have never eaten flexseed anyone use it before which recipes have you used it with?

1 Month Before getting Banded!
Thanks I can't wait to make it to that sweet spot!!!

1 Month Before getting Banded!
Hi, I am new here and scheduled to have my lap band procedure on May 3! I am excited and very nervous all at the same time. I was looking to see how my insurance would cover me but they were insistent on waiting a year. Once I realized that it would take months to appeal and be approved (in a year I would be covered anyways) I decided I needed it done while I am already off work and have the time to start these lifestyle changes. So I have chosen to go aboard and the staff has been very helpful to me so far and made this decision very conformable. In addition, my local doctor has been positive about my follow-up and fills! I start the living shrinking portion on Saturday and will do 4 weeks of this diet. It seemed excessive but I read there is an assumption of your liver based on your BMI, mine is really high!!! I am looking forward to meeting new people in this journey!!!

Feeling like I was Banded and kicked to the curve. I'm lost ;(
I am sorry to hear this about your situation. I feared that going outside of my area I would have the same issues as you do. So far and I am only in the preop stage I found a local doctor that has been very informative about me doing this surgery abroad and willing to assist me starting 6 weeks post op with motioning and fills. The only advice I could give is seek out another doctor who is going to meet your needs as the above poster already stated. Good luck and keep us posted!

Any Recent Surgeries in Mexico
I see several old posts about Doctors in Mexico and was wondering if any has gone down this year to have their procedure done. I have three doctors I am looking into Dr. Kuri, Dr. Jose Rodriguez-Villarreal and Dr. Elmo Aramburo, or Dr. Almanza. The costs and facilities are almost the same, one doctor is not at the same hospital as the other two. At this point I am just looking for others opinions before deciding which avenue to go. I was going to wait around for insurance but after yesterday I am ready to get the help I truly need.
