  2. My surgery is coming up soon on march 22nd and I've been re-reading through all my education materials from my doctor. I'm finding a lot of good examples of solid Proteins he recommends eating but I only found one part that talked about how MUCH Protein I should be consuming in a day. It says the minimum requirement is 50 gm for women and 65 gm for men. My question is, if that's the minimum, is there a higher number I should be trying to target instead? Or is there a maximum amount also? Thanks for the advice! Sent from my XT1080 using the BariatricPal App
  3. That may work as long as you dont get a kind that has the pulp mixed in with it. But I'm not positive because it may be similar to orange juice which isn't a clear liquid?? Let me know what you find out! Sent from my XT1080 using the BariatricPal App

  6. You may wanna check on the heating pad. If its electric, then the hospital technically isn't allowed to let you plug it in unless its been cleared by biomed. However, not all nurses follow that rule and may let u use it anyways... Sent from my XT1080 using the BariatricPal App
  7. Can we be surgery buddies too? I'm having mine done on 3/22/16 :-) Sent from my XT1080 using the BariatricPal App
  8. Hey all! I started this process back in November and have now been approved for my surgery. My date is march 22nd and I'm just curious if there is anyone else out there in the northern VA area or close? A lot of people that I knew in my area recently moved away and it would be nice if there was someone out there close that I can relate with :-) Sent from my XT1080 using the BariatricPal App

  13. I am still preop right now but I plan on making a list of things I enjoy (non food related) to reward myself. Maybe like shopping, a massage, take a trip, etc... Sent from my XT1080 using the BariatricPal App
  14. I am scheduled for March 22nd. However, I have not gotten my final approval from insurance yet, so hopefully that will come soon. I'm getting really antsy here wanting to know if I have been approved!!!
  15. Hi everyone, I have my tentative surgery date for rny on 3/22/16. I am still waiting to hear back from insurance as to whether or not I have been approved, so that's why I still say "tentative." As the date gets closer, everything starts to feel more real and one thing that has really been helping me is watching vlogs on youtube from other people who have gone on the same journey. This website/forum as well as the vlogs have been inspiring, giving me hope/support, and definitely making me feel like I am not alone. I was thinking about starting my own vlog to document the journey. I figured, maybe it would help others who are considering making the same choice like it has helped me. Plus it may be nice to look back at the videos 12 months/18 months, etc from now to see how far I have come. I was wondering if anyone else here has made vlogs to document their journey as well? It may be neat to share the videos with each other and help support one another with them as well? I am a little hesitant right now to start vlogging until I get the final approval from my insurance, so I guess we will see...
  16. I have thought a lot about having a weight loss surgery and attended a seminar and now have an appt for consultation with a surgeon. When I spoke with the office they said they accept my insurance (I have United Healthcare choice plus). I called my insurance company today to see if my employer has added that as an option and they told me that gastric bypass and lap band surgeries are "excluded." It seemed like they only offered a physician assited diet but no actual surgery. Now I am discouraged and wonder if it is even worth going to have my consult now. Is it affordable to do payment plans on my own? Does anyone know the approx monthly payment on average for doing a self pay option or know how long most places will finance for? I realize every place is different, but was wondering if anyone else here had to do a self pay option that was manageable without having a large downpayment???
