    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

Hello Bandstanders! Banded 9-24-10, down 33 pounds, feeling terrific and looking pretty good too ! haha . I'm still feeling restricted and happy with three meals a day (4 -4 1/2 ounces), surgeon is also happy- so no fill yet for me. I've been setting my mindset like this for the holidays- It's a time to be with my family, NOT a time to resurface old eating habits... We've all been through too much and come too far! OOps- forgot to update ticker!

    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

I'm ten days post op- started pureed foods today! My only complaint is the port area is SOOO SORE. I went to the surgeon today, who said it's normal. I guess I was wishing to bounce back like I would have 20 years ago! Anyway, down 22 pounds- a little tired, but all in all doing well. This website has been so informative - and its good to hear from others going through the same thing- GOOD LUCK EVERYONE
  6. Hi All, I was banded on 9-24-10 at the Hospital of St. Raphael's. My surgeon is Ursula McMillian, who is Dr. Valin's partner. If anyone is looking for a caring doctor who takes the time to walk you through the steps, and answers all your questions, I'd highly recommend her. The office staff has gone out of their way to be there for me... The right surgeon can make all the differance.. Good Luck !:smile2:
  7. Banded 9-24-2010, Hospital of St. Raphael, New Haven CT. Dr. Ursula McMillian I arrived at 5:30 as told for a 7:00 surgery, was greeted by a friendly receptionist, and wisked to a private pre op room. There my nurse did the usual vitals, asked me a million questions, and started the IV. She also gave me a Heprin shot in the belly to prevent blood clots- THIS IS A TINY NEEDLE AND DOESNT HURT AT ALL. I'm a baby, and was dreading it for no reason. Dr. Mcmillian and Dr. Valin came to see me before the surgery and asked if I had any other questions or concerns. Because I know some of the anesthesia team, I had requested Dr. Rocco Marano for anesthesia, and Maryellen M. for my CRNA- they are all very good, but these two are the best! I was promptly brought into the OR at 6:50 am, chatted a second or two with my CRNA and off to sleep I went. The team made my preop and surgery as much of a good expierience as possible. I woke in the recovery room to find my daughter smiling at me, and found they had repaired a hiatial hernia. My only complaint is that when I asked the recovery room when I would be taken to my room, her response was "When I have time, I can't do everything here!" My daughter who is 23, and a nursing student, went up to her and said, "Don't be a bitch to my mother." I was moved within ten minutes!

    Heartburn?

Besides the medication from my surgeon, I used GAS X- it was a life saver. It also helps to put a heating pad on your stomach or left shoulder. And dont forget to walk, walk, walk ! I does get better...promise Good Luck:thumbup:
  9. I began stage three today, having trouble drinking as much as suggested.. What do you do hen you are feeling that full? Also, the gas is definitely a problem. I walk, wak, an then walk some more- still settled in my left shoulder. Would love to try popsicles, but not on my list from the Dr..

    Banded 2 days ago

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I ended up calling my surgeon who said sugar free ice pops were fine... and the GAS X has helped tremendously  The pain in my left shoulder is finally gone, and today marks 6 days for me...feeling good!
  11. Hey T -

I can't believe what happened. I'd be pissed too! You should have had the same date as me. Afterall, there was only three or four of us they had to precert from class! Let me know when you hear.. I'll keep you posted. I'm a little nervous, but ready to roll!

  12. Getting banded next week- Sept 24.. Can't wait! I've been looking forward to this for a very long time
  13. I tried three years ago for approval- and was denied by connecticare.. the office staff was less than helpfu and told me to do an appeal on my own! Now I have new surgeon who has an outstanding staff, switched to Aetna, and was approved in 2 days! I'll be banded next week- September 24... Don't give up trying- it will happen for you too !
