  2. I'm pretty lucky because, as far as I know, I don't have a pre-op liquid diet. I just have to eat the regular pre-op diet...1200 calories, protein, vegetables, etc. Kaiser required that I lose so many pounds to see the surgeon, which I did, then gave me the surgery date. So as long as I continue to lose, I'm ok.
  3. Congrats! That is so awesome. Maybe your GP just wanted to see how hard you would fight for it. Something tells me that GPs get a lot of patients that flit from one thing to another and never really stick with it. He saw you fight for it and knew that you could be successful.
  4. Congrats June Bandsters! I'm so excited to be joining the ranks this month (19th). I'm also looking forward to sharing the journey together. It's helped so much to read what others are going through and to get tips and suggestions, but most of all ENCOURAGEMENT!
  5. Hey Apples2...please do not let your friend get you down. She's scared too. She's scared of you having surgery and something bad happening, she's scared of the skinny you, she's scared you'll change and not be her friend anymore. So she reacted in a negative way. Don't let her fear latch on to you. Just stay strong and she'll eventually come around. P.S. I love your "Apples2" logo...been a MAC fan since 85 (Geez, I'm getting old).
  6. Sorry, my husband is an adopted only son. I wish I lived close to you, I'd drive you to the appointment and drive home. I think "Shome" is right, my doctor won't let me drive home.
  7. P.S. I'm not telling people either...and my reason is, I don't need the added pressure. My husband is my support, and 3 other people know at work...1 who is banded, 1 who accidently found my lapband blog, and the other is a fantastic non-judgmental friend. I heard the comments my friends made regarding a mutual friend who had gastric bypass. She was eating breakfast and they were scrutinizing her choices and commenting that she may have gained a couple of pounds. I was pissed. This girl has worked really hard for her weightloss. Who are we to say what she eats and comment about weight fluctuations. Last time I checked, Jesus wasn't in the room, so why the comments? I knew then, that this journey was going to be personal. Maybe one day I will share it, but not right now. Not while it's fresh and I'm dealing with all of this. My husband is a rock. He's solidly behind me. The funny thing is he's never commented on my weight, never said I looked fat, never commented on what I'm eating. He's always told me that I'm beautiful. Too Cool.
  8. Forget the people you work with. This is about you. What you want and your journey. You never know what other people are doing behind closed doors...are they sabotaging their diet? Do they exercise? All you really know is you, what you can do, what you're willing to work for. I can tell by your post that you are a fighter. You're fighting for your health and you are asking yourself the right questions. Don't let anyone derail you. You can do this, if this is what you want, and the benefits will be glorious.
  9. Please don't mourn the things you won't be eating. I've been reading countless threads, blogs, books, etc. since I started this journey last August and depending on the person, you can eat what you want within 6 months to a year. Does this mean you'll go back to a bonbon, potato chip, soda fest once this is over? I won't. I'm making healthy choices. But I'm human. I know that every once in a while, I'm going to want a taste of ice cream (my personal demon) and if I make a wise choice, like the Dryers slow churn with 50% less fat and 30% lower calories, and I don't over do it, I should be ok. But you and I both recognize that the benefits are so much more. I'm right there with you and can't wait to hear more details of your journey.
  10. Sister, I know exactly how you feel. I was scheduled for June 12th, made all the arrangements with work, timeshare, husband's work, etc. Then got the call this week that my Dr. has Jury duty and my surgery has been rescheduled for June 19th. Had to make the mad scramble to change everything. Disappointed, but like you said, a few days won't kill us, and the benefits are so much more. Hang tough! I'm right there with you.
  11. ok...Got some news from the Dr. Front. The doctor postponed my surgery from the 12th to the 19th due to...jury duty. I was not a happy camper because it's added an extra trip for me, so in all I'll be driving about 1800 miles in June. A little bummed, but I can do this, so I just have to be patient...for another week.

  13. Hey Army Wife...don't sell yourself short. The support you give your husband is immeasurable. Take it from an Army Mom...No one, except another Army Wife, can know how difficult it is to have a husband deployed and be caring for a young son. The constant worry and stress is enough to make anyone overweight. Thank you for your service in support of our fighting soldiers and thank you to your husband for selflessly defending our nation. You Rock Sista! You can do it!
  14. Wow!!! This is totally cool. It's nice to know that we can lean on each other and when the little hiccups occur, chances are, someone else has gone thru it and can advise. I'm psyched!
  15. I work for the State of CA (ok..no Governator jokes), live in the Sierra Foothills and commute to work (gas is choking me). Been on the weight rollercoaster ever since I was taught how to "diet" by my mom at 8 or 9 years of age. Looking forward to getting off the rollercoaster. Being banded (knock on wood) on June 12th by Kaiser in South SanFrancisco by Dr. Li. WooHoo!!
  16. Congrats! Getting Banded June 12th. Looking forward to it. Just did the preliminary blood tests and urine sample today.
  17. Exactly...who says we don't have willpower? Not only that, we have determination. How many people do we know will pick themselves up and start over and over again? We know we want to be healthy and we keep at it, keep trying. Most people I know would quit.
  18. Thank you so much. I'm going to keep you in mind. I'm being banded by the other Dr. Li. He's been there the longest out of the three. I heard that the Dr. Le (with the "e") was a real jerk and didn't take time with his patients. I met Dr. Li and he was very professional and nice (quite handsome also, which is disconcerting). I also heard great things about Dr. Alami so I'm glad I got one of the two good ones. Just getting excited about the big day. I'm looking forward to it and trying to be good and not gain any weight...so they don't refuse me.
  19. I do my main bitching about my journey on dizbanded.blogspot.com....Nothing special.
  20. Journey's been ok. Not as difficult as yours. You are truly a strong woman to not give up and I know you'll be successful. Got the date today...getting banded on June 12th. I'm really excited but I know that I'll have to keep working at this until the weight is gone....the band won't miraculously take off my excess weight. It's funny how people don't understand that. They think I'm taking the easy way out...and there is nothing easy about this. Don't have to tell you that. You're almost there girl. Can't wait to hear the results of your evaluation.
  21. Yes, I know the Kaiser process takes awhile, but I did learn some great things about my habits, so I think it's set me up for success. That's great about finding a Dr. in Sacramento. Congrats. How's the journey going for you PandaGirl?
  22. I'm getting banded next month. Don't know the exact date yet because the person that schedules the surgery date was out today. So I'll get the call tomorrow or Wednesday. I was so happy. The Surgeon said that I made his job easy for him and that he didn't have any qualms about setting it up. WOOHOO!!!!
  23. Thanks Vicki J. That's exactly what I'm going to ask for. I discussed it with my husband, and he's ok with it, so if possible, I'm going to request to be put on the cancellation list. Things are flexible at work, and I made sure that I'm off any medications that will stop the surgery. I've past the weight marker that they gave me, so that will be no problem. The only bad thing is getting the surgery at someone elses expense. I know how hard I've been working and I'd hate to think that someone didn't get their surgery when they've been working so hard.
  24. Fortunately my appointment is with Dr. Li (the other one), so I should be ok. I'm looking forward to the appointment and everything. The advice given here has helped a lot.
  25. Hi Everyone...I'm located about 14 miles North East of Auburn. I'm part of the Kaiser program also...and am slowly "coming out" about the process. Only about 3 or 4 people know I'm in the banding process...didn't want the pressure. I have my appointment with the Surgeon on the 19th, and hopefully will get a surgery date. I started the Kaiser process last August of 07. It definitely takes awhile. Just wanted to thank you all for the wonderful information you've shared. I feel so ready and prepared because of all of you. I'm excited about this journey.
