  1. Congratulations on your upcoming date shondel ...I am new to this forum too...and am happy to read encouraging words from people like BrantS. Makes me realize I am not alone in the things I feel with my upcoming surgery.
  2. Maybe I have lost it, but when I read these words, a tear rolled down my face...it was exactly what I needed to read...thank you so much. This journey is turning pretty emotional for me, which I am not accustomed to, as I have always done my best to stay level headed. Thank you again for reading my post and taking the time to respond so graciously.
  3. I am hoping someone can relate and talk me through this...I have been excited about my Feb. 14th date until today...I am having an overwhelming feeling that I will fail...I keep thinking that I obviously didn't have discipline before, which is why I am so grossly unattractive now, so how will I be able to succeed once I have this surgery? You have to be disciplined and know it is not the cure all, which realistically I get, but how do I make sure I don't fail with this like I have with every diet my entire life? So sorry for this self pity party...I just feel overwhelmed and have no one to talk to...
  4. So happy for you!
  5. Nice chatting with you too...definitely let me know when you hear about your date, so I can cheer you on! Best of luck to you too!
  6. My suggestion is to post a new thread asking about the insurance process to help you feel better about it or see if there are some other threads with this same concern...maybe do a search on "too long" or "insurance process/timing." I wish I could shed some more light, but I didn't have the benefit of insurance for this procedure....so sorry.
  7. Keep your chin up..probably has way more to do with the red tape with your insurance then it does with your surgeon. It will all work out and this will just be a blip on your radar when you are post op and feeling like a new you!
  8. My understanding is that you do have a much longer wait than self-pay because it's a process with insurance....good news is that it is much less out of your pocket vs. what I have to pay. :-)
  9. Are you going through insurance? I am self-pay, so that could be the difference...also, where are you doing it, if you don't mind me asking? Could be a higher demand in your area?? Just throwing out ideas...
  10. I know how you feel, which is why I made myself commit at first consult and paid for the physical same day! (I am also self-pay) I am so lucky to have found this forum because it makes me realize that this is not the same for everyone and I will have to respect my band and keep learning on my journey. Best of luck on yours!
  11. "Food jail" - what a great way to put it...that's where I am at right now, for sure...looking forward to 'escaping.'
  12. I really appreciate your sound advice...I will definitely do my best to respect the band.
  13. Great point...maybe I should be more thankful instead of worrisome!
  14. Great point! I definitely like that it will be so easy to remember and gives me two loves to celebrate every year!
  15. Thank you for the advice. I had a friend that had the band a few years back and lost a lot of weight, but now is bigger then when she started. I couldn't understand why until I started researching this for my journey. She was always throwing up and I realize now it was because her bites were too big and she wasn't taking the time to wait for the bite to clear the band. She was also "eating around the band," as my nurse told me people do when they drink when they eat to get the food to clear the band...I know I have to be committed and ready for big changes in my habits - I just hope I don't mess up or something goes wrong.
  16. Thanks so much! They gave me the "Lap Band Solution." I have read it cover to cover!
  17. I have little support and it would be great if there was someone in Austin that I could buddy up with....my band surgery is Feb 14th. Thanks!
  18. Congrats to you and wish you the best!
  19. My surgery is scheduled on Valentines Day! I hope to fall in "love" with my new journey!
  20. Valarie, I honestly felt like I was reading my story when I read your post, with the only exception being that I have been big my whole life (not as big as I am now, but always obese). I am having the surgery on February 14th for similar reasons you discussed. I wish you the very best and have hope that we will both get our joy of life back!
  21. Thank you! Is it normal to not meet your surgeon until surgery?
  22. Thank you! The book said I should have a DVD, but I didn't get one...so happy for these videos!
