Banded 2-13-14
I arrived for my banding surgery yesterday, 2/13/14 @ 2:30 p.m. in San Antonio, Texas, and was on the road back to Austin, Texas at 5:30 p.m....I was not nervous going into surgery - more like a kid in a candy store, I was so excited....I lost 7 pounds during 2 week low carb pre-op diet (I was hoping for more, but heck, I'll take it)....the procedure was pretty straight forward - preformed a pregnancy test, took my vitals, and started an IV...the surgeon came in and said are you ready and I said, "More than you know!" - the anesthesiologist came in and gave me something through the IV that made me dizzy, as he said it would. I was wheeled to the surgery room, moved to the operating table, then given the anesthesia that really burned as it went in, again as the doctor said it would....next thing I knew, I was waking up and had some serious gas pain at the top of my stomach, got some Gas-X strips, got up pretty quickly after fully waking, changed clothes, did some laps around the room and off I went.... A little sore today, and a little gas pain, but nothing unbearable - very doable, actually...and I am not taking any pain medication (I could, but choosing not to unless I am just extremely uncomfortable)...I have had VERY little gas pain, if any, in my left shoulder, not bad like some people have had...also slept pretty good last night - propped up with some pillows and woke up only 2 times... I only have one concern, which I was surprised about yesterday and today.....I'm hungry....my understanding was that I wouldn't be hungry for like the first week after surgery and here I am hungry on the day of and day after so far...of course, I am still doing what I am supposed to do - only liquids, but thought it was odd...any one else have this issue when they got banded? Overall, a great experience and I am ready for my new banded journey!!

Success in Inches, not Pounds from Current Bandsters
What a great accomplishment! I can't imagine a 14 because I haven't been that size since high school...big congratulations to you!! I also like the Inspiration you provide by saying you don't care what others think and you're doing this for yourself..I have fallen prey to seeking validation from others and really want to find the inner strength to validate myself instead...great post! Forgot to ask, how long has it taken you to go from an 18 to 14?

Success in Inches, not Pounds from Current Bandsters
I am sure there are threads on this, but couldn't find anything quickly, so thought I would start anew. I have read several success stories regarding pounds lost, but I was hoping some existing bandsters would share their success in inches.... In all my dieting, the scale moves much slower than inches lost, so I would love to hear the time line of losing your inches and how many, if you all would like to share... My surgery is coming up on Thursday.... :-)

Surgery on a Friday...back to work Monday
Thanks Kit...I would definitely not be on pain meds to commute, meet with clients, or perform my duties...but good point! I chose not to take pain meds after my C - sections because I didn't feel they were necessary, so hopefully this won't be any more invasive...fingers crossed!

10 month progress
Will do! I am nervous about the whole exercising thing, as I have always said I'm allergic to exercise. Lol. I did 30 minutes of Just Dance 2014 with my family last night and thought I was going to pass out I was so worn out...will I ever enjoy it like so many people on here?

"You should lose weight for your health"....fast forward to now..."Are you crazy getting WLS?"
Exactly..couldn't have been said better.

My reaction was to hold up my hand before they could say more and say, "this is my decision that I didn't come to lightly...I did the research, am confident with my choice and am moving forward with or without your support..." they did back pedal a little when I said that because they new if they said anything else that was negative, it would make them look bad. I may not be confident all the time and I come to this forum for support, but they don't need to know that!

10 month progress
Congratulations! You look great! I have the same starting weight as you and am getting banded on the 14th. Did you lose gradually over the 10 months or a lot at first and then it slowed?

Surgery on a Friday...back to work Monday
Great advice about the back brace, as I will not be able to carry a pillow around like I've seen suggested...hot liquids, will do...I hope I can too, thanks...I just keep telling myself that I was back to full time work and finishing my Masters 1.5 weeks after a C section, so I can handle this...but I may be assuming too much.

Surgery on a Friday...back to work Monday
Thanks Leepers...I will have to remember to ask my surgeon about OTC, as I will have to be limited to no narcotics until after I get home from work.

Yes, the lapband only. Wow, so glad you are doing okay after all of that! Was your other pain besides gas from the incisions?
