  1. Hi: My port is just below my rib cage in the middle. I love it being there because I never have to think about anything rubbing on it. Also, it lays nice and flat there. Best wishes to you. Sue
  2. Katie: I was banded by Dr. Adam Glasgow back in July 2007. I had my first one-on-one appointment with him on April 23, 2007 and my surgery was July 26th, 2007. I did not have a six month supervised diet requirement. Some insurances have that. Best wishes to you. Maybe I'll catch you at support group some time. You might want to check out support group even before you get banded because that's when you'll have alot of experienced bandsters in one place. Take care. Sue
  3. Hi: You may want to increase your calories to between 1000 to 1200 per day and see if that helps. Your caloric intake might be too low and your body may be holding onto the calories because of this. Best wishes with your band. I love my band and my new flat tummy. Sue
  4. Hi: Congrats on your weight loss so far. I lost 148 pounds and had to be at a stable weight for 6 months before they would do plastic surgery. I got banded in July 07 and had a tummy tuck in May 09. Very happy with the results. Your plastic surgeon may be different, so you may want to interview plastic surgeons about 20 pounds before your weight goal and see if you find someone you like and go with their suggestions. Best wishes to you. Sue
  5. Hi: I agree with others. They're both great surgeons. They've done more than 500 bands, so they've got plenty of experience. They're both very caring people. They both seem genuinely engaged in their patients lap band journeys. You'll be making a great decision with either one of these doctors. Best wishes to you. I love my band and my new flat tummy. Sue
  6. Hi: I totally agree with you, but for different reasons. I started at 324 and got down as low as 174. When I was that low people that I haven't seen in a while thought that I'd been seriously ill because my face was so drawn and my face was hollowing out. My original goal was to get to size 12, and I'm there even when I go as high as 185 to 190, so that's where I am, and happy to be there. I'm 50 years old and in the best shape I've been in for 25 years. I'm enjoying my life so much more without carrying an extra 150 pounds around. Sure, I still have some excess weight, but it's mostly in my legs. Mother nature doesn't take away the heavy legs when you've had them since your teens (even when I weighed 127 I had heavy legs). So, happy at size 12 and some 14's and living a healthy, full life. Best wishes to everyone who reaches their goal, or adjusts their goals because they're happy and healthy when they get close to their original goals. These bands are amazing and I love mine and my new flat tummy. Sue
  7. Hi: My port is right where it's always been. It's about two inches below the bottom of my rib cage, right in the middle. It's not noticeable at all. When I had plastic surgery there wasn't alot of excess fat there so I'm not sure if she had to do anything with it. I had a full tummy tuck with some lipo in the flank area and also in the mons area. I'm very pleased with the results and am so happy my port is where it is. Never had any issues with it. Best wishes to you with your upcoming plastic surgery. Remember, for the best results you really must follow doctors orders and rest alot and then some more. Take care. Sue
  8. Hi: I highly recommend whichever surgeon's making it easier for you in the long run. This band is a life-long committment to you with your surgeon. God willing you won't need any more band related surgeries after the initial one, but the fills and follow up are very important and you want to have someone that is going to be good, and make it easy for you to meet your end of the follow up too. I'm so fortunate because my band surgeon and the hospital were in the same town and I live in the suburbs. Best wishes to you. Sue
  9. Hi: I had a tummy tuck last May. I was told nothing but walking for first three months. The first six weeks was supposed to just walk at a light pace so as not to break a sweat. You need to take it easy so that you can heal well. You'll get through it! Best wishes to you. Sue
  10. I have three things to say. Wow! Wow! and Wow!
  11. Nikki: I think us bandsters have a hard time recuperating because after losing so much weight we have amazingly incredible energy. Please remember that if you take it easy you'll heal better. A few weeks of low activity are worth the price to have a fabulous end result with your surgery. Take care. Sue
  12. Hi: I bought wedge pillow and used it only once. For wearing after plastic surgery I found that sweatpants and pajama pants with pockets worked best because I could put the drainage balls into the pockets. Mens pajama pants usually have pockets. Best wishes to you. Sue
  13. Sally: Had my surgery with Dr. Adam Glasgow. He's a great surgeon with his practice dedicated to LapBand patients exclusively now. Here's a link to his website. www.massweightloss.com Dr. Adam is in practice with his Dad, Dr. Arthur. I cannot say enough good things about them. Check out the thread on Massachusetts surgeons in Norwood and you'll see what people have said about these two great doctors. Best wishes to you. I love my band and my new flat tummy! Sue
  14. Congratulations! It is so motivating to lose that much in the beginning. You can surely lose 100 pounds in a year. I did it, and so can you. Best wishes to you getting used to your new band newbie! I love my band and my new flat tummy! Sue
  15. Colleen: You should probably call your band doctor. Maybe he'll do a swallow test to make sure your band is in position. Please let us know how you make out. Take care. Sue
  16. Hi: I have nausea issues so I got my completely unfilled the day before tt. I'm glad I did because I was hurling for almost 24 hours after surgery. Got refilled almost 3 weeks after tummy tuck because I didn't want to stretch the surgical area in order to get my port accessible to my surgeon. Still wasn't comfortable, but wasn't too bad to get the refill. Best wishes to you. Sue
  17. Congratulations! Sue
  18. Mimi: You are amazing!!!!!!!! I could barely move during the first 24 hours after my tummy tuck. Best wishes. I hope the medication continues to keep you so comfortable! Sue
  19. Ouch! Sounds like you were "stuck". You may want to stick to liquids or pureed foods today to give your tummy a rest because it's probably swollen from yesterday. I love my band and my new flat tummy! Sue
  20. Nikki: Congratulations. You know what they say about nurses being the worst patients. I hope that's not true. I hope you put yourself first and baby yourself for a while so that you heal well and have the best results. Take care and rest up. Sue
  21. Hal: Check out the "Men's Room". Here's a link The Men's Room - LAP-BAND
  22. Glad to see that I'm not the only one that gets a runny nose from eating. Such strange creatures we are. Sometimes I get a hiccup for my soft signal too. Love my band! Sue
  23. Hi: I was covered for a panniculectomy due to rashes after losing 140'ish pounds. I paid the extra difference between a panni and a tummy tuck so that I could get the tummy tuck. I am very happy with the results. If you look at my profile page on the bottom right you can see pics of my results. Best wishes to you. Sue
  24. Hi: You should check out my doctor. I think he mentioned that he will do fills for those that are banded by other doctors. Here's his website. www.massweightloss.com Good luck! Sue
  25. Amy: I wanted to share with you my thoughts on plastic surgery when at size 12/14. I had my tummy tuck last May at size 12/14. I am thrilled with the results. After losing 140+ pounds I had an apron that I hated. I can get past the other loose skin, but not that apron. To answer your questions specifically: How much weight was lost after surgery? I actually gained some, but am now hanging in the 185 to 190 range. I'm 5'7" and still have alot of excess weight in my thighs and calves. My tummy is nice and flat! Did you still have a ‘muffin top’? No more muffin top, or muffins in the tummy either. Did you have to get separate lipo’? My surgeon did some lipo, primarily in the mons area, when she did the tummy tuck. She also did a little bit in the "muffin top" area. How much was your extended tummy tuck with lipo? Mine wasn't extended, and based on what I've read here, mine was more expensive than most. How many sizes did you lose? Didn't lose any sizes, but fit much better into what I do wear. Love not having my tummy hit my legs when I sit down. And most importantly were you happy with the results? I am very happy with the results. No more rashes. No embarassing apron. Best part - a woman that I know told me that I have the abdomen of 17 or 18 year old, and I just turned 50! Best wishes to you. Sue
