  1. Funny how people use the same information. I liked his age and the amount of experience. I figured a couple hundred surgeries on his own and hundreds+ as an assistant was just right. He would still take his time, have steady hands and stamina, and not be too bored by the same procedure. His Trauma surgeon experience was the part that sealed the deal for me. I started with a list of 20 surgeons. (including 4 stateside) Best of luck on picking your surgeon. The one you choose in the end will be very personal to you.
  2. Hi Tiff. No, I haven't joined the facebook support group. I haven't shared with my extended family or friends that I'm having VSG. I'm afraid if I joined it may prompt questions that I don't want to answer. Good luck with your surgery! Have you started the liquid diet? It gets easier every day.
  3. Subject brought up in another thread but thought the topic could use a thread of its own. Tipping. Driver- $? Patient Coordinator- $? Nurses/Attendants- $? Hotel bags- still $2 per bag? That was a while ago. Any one I miss?
  4. Thank you for sharing! Thank you for the helpful tidbits too! My wife will be coming with me and so it's nice to know that she will be O.K. and have things to do while she waits. Surgery is set for 3/15 (this Saturday!). We fly into San Diego on Friday. Thanks again.
  5. Thank you for sharing your experience. It is really nice to hear for those of us with the jitters behind you. I'm set for surgery this coming Saturday 3/15. I fly into San Diego on Friday. Appreciate you.
  6. Hello all. I'll be going with Dr. Illan w/ bajabariatrics at the florence Hospital on March 15. Two weeks away! Start liquid diet next week. My GP just put me on blood pressure meds last week. I'm ready to get started and to get my life back! Wish everyone travelling in March a safe trip. I'm lucky to have my wife coming with me.
  7. Some might. My sweet is a size 3 at 5'. We had the talk...She said she will love me anyway I think some women like big men because it makes them feel smaller.
  8. Loveit, I appreciate that. My wife married the big guy - hope she can adjust her tastes. Thanks, lol, now I'll have to have a conversation with her.
  9. Going through the exact same thoughts. I'm 5'11" and #253. I've lifted weights on and off since a teenager. I'm relatively out of shape and can still bench my weight and squat #350+. I can't run though. I ate to put on muscle most of my early life. I was able to get down to #180 about 12 years ago (lasted maybe 6mo.s). Kept it under #215 until 5 years ago. I was able to fight to get under #220 for an insurance physical but quickly ballooned up past #240. Lost my younger brother 3 years ago and stuck my head in the sand. I sit most of the day at work. It is getting harder and harder to drop the weight. I can work out for an hour and it will be negated by the volume of food consumed later in the evening. I've heard myself say I don't want to be skinny just last week. I've decided I want to be a skinny athlete. I'll leave the big guy in the past. If I wind up being a skinny non-athlete...it might buy me some time to come to my senses.
  10. Just started a few days ago. I used to use DietPower but they don't have an online version yet. The ability to log using my phone is great! MyFitnessPal username is Bignosemonkeydog. Surgery is set for March15.
  11. Just set my date for March 15, 2014! Omar has been great about communicating.
