My BFF is having her tonsils out on the 27th of June. We have decided to celebrate the 4th together since we will both be on liquid diets. We can have soup and fireworks..... Lol!

Bmi of 35 or greater with a comorbidity, documented evidence of that you have obese for five years, 6 month medically supervised diet, you must show that you have participated and failed more than one program, a letter from your PCP recommending and supporting weight loss surgery, psych evaluation, all other treatable medical diseases have been ruled out as a cause for obesity, such as : adrenal, pituitary, or thyroid screening tests must come back normal and completed. This came from the Medicare website.

I called the surgeon's office and asked about meds. I can take them whole. You can't take extended release meds if you have a bypass, I am glad I don't take any of those type of medicines.

I have Medicare and I didn't use it for my surgery coming up on June 25th. You have to jump thru all the hoops. My husband's insurance from work didn't have hardly any requirements.

I think about it all the time. I get on my own nerves. I know I will be in pain, but it will be such a relief to have it over with. Sometimes I wonder what I am going to do after surgery since I won't have it to obsess over anymore.

I just realized I will be on my after surgery liquid diet phase on the 4th of July. No BBQ for me. Maybe just a sniff... Lol!

That's exactly how I feel, except instead of getting depressed I am getting angry because my surgery date just seems so far away. At the same time the days are just breezing by. All my planning is driving my husband up the wall. I'm just a bundle of energy. Do you know if we can take our meds like we regularly do after surgery or if we should get them in liquid form or crush them?

I have UHC too. My insurance is through Lowe's. The only requirements I had were be over 18, bmi of 40+, bariatric center of excellence. No 6 month diet or psych evaluation. It took my surgeon's office two weeks to file it, but once they did I got my approval with in a week. I am scheduled on June 25th for surgery. My pre-op is June 19th.

Do I need to discuss getting liquid forms of my meds through my psychiatrist? I take several psychiatric meds. I am having my surgery in June and was wondering about this. How did others on the forum taken their regular meds after surgery? Has anyone crushed their meds after surgery? I am kinda worried about this. I am going g to talk to the pharmacist today about my meds. I am just curious about what others have done. Thanks!

I have severe bipolar type 1. It has been controlled really well with meds. Apparently, the news of my upcoming surgery has triggered a manic episode in me. I am having extremely bad mood swings. One minute I am happiest person on the planet and the next I am the evil b**ch that no one wants to meet. I am taking everything out on my poor husband. I am so happy about my surgery even though I have to wait to the end of June to have it and the next second I am super pissed that I had to help my husband pay the cell phone bill this month which kept me from having surgery in May. I am making all these plans in super high speed mode. I go to bed at about 10pm only to get back up at 1130 and not being able to go back to sleep. It just a matter of time before I am not sleeping at all. Is there anyone else who has had WLS and also has diagnosed bipolar disorder. I say dx'd because I have noticed after having this illness for so long that many people like to think they have BP disorder, when only two percent of the population actually have it. I totally chewed the secretary at the psychiatrist's office out. I have been calling there for three days trying to get some help. I have never called there this much and I am the patient that never calls unless some freaky is going on. I finally had to have my husband call there and that got there attention. I got an appointment for next week, which is pretty quick considering that my next appointment isn't until July. I have a feeling that I am going to back to seeing him once a month for a while. Thanks for letting me rant.

Don't worry you are not alone in the lack of patience department. My surgery is scheduled for June 25th and it cannot get here fast enough. My psychiatrist is having to change my meds cause I am having so much anxiety from having to wait. I am driving my self nuts...lol. I have also set a little goal for myself before surgery. I plan on being less than 300 on the day of my surgery. So far I am losing about a pound a week. I was stuck hovering at 310 for three weeks, so I understand the frustration. Honestly, I did not stick to my diet very well this weekend. I am slowing inching my way back on it though. I hope I can meet my goal before surgery. My surgeon doesn't help though using the scare tactic of putting in the pre-op paperwork than you cannot gain weight before surgery or it will be cancelled. Good luck on your weight loss journey!!!!

Well, I fell off the diet horse this weekend. We had cheeseburgers at home, so I had one. It tasted so good. Now I climb slowly back up on that horse. It was fun while it lasted.

Actually you can see a heart attack on an ekg. I has to do with the elevation of the s-t wave portion of QRS complex on the ekg. Anyway don't want to get real technical... Lol! You can see other things on their as well. I understand what you mean when you wonder they don't do all this testing for other surgeries. I have had six back surgeries and just had blood work and chest x-ray for each one. At the seminar I attended, the surgeon basically said he would not do WLS on a person who major heart or lung problems because they would be just to unhealthy and their risk of dying on the table is to high. If you want the surgery bad enough you will sleep during your sleep study. It's not hard to sleep thru them. I have been on both sides of a sleep study. First of all, I have had 4 sleep studies. Plus I am a respiratory therapist so did clinicals in a sleep lab. They actually don't watch you sleep. The point of checking to see if you have sleep apnea is that your chances of having a heart attack or stroke is greatly increased because you stop breathing in your sleep. Most surgeons will postpone surgery 30 days if you have sleep apnea so you can get some therapy from the cpap machine. Oh yeah, you can request a sleep aid during your test. As for the endoscopy or egd, it's done to check your esophagus, to make sure you don't have a condition such as barrets esophagus, or to check for a hiatal hernia. They check your stomach and the beginning of your small intestine as well. They will probably take a biopsy to check for h. Pylori if you haven't done the breath test. Everyone that wants to get WLS has an EKG. They do it to check for any heart disease, if they detect something on it they will send you to see a cardiologist. They will check your respiratory system too. Some have to go see a lung doctor. Some of us have to visit all the specialists, that the surgeon refers us to. They want to make sure you are in best physical shape possible to have surgery. WLS is a major ordeal and you need to be as safe as possible.

T Thanks for your reply. Your post made me feel better. You probably right, a true friend would stick with me no matter what. My husband told me this morning that I should happy with my date, because I didn't have to jump through any hoops to get it. Just had to do the routine testing required by the surgeon. Even my personal psychiatrist got me out of the psych eval, he wrote the surgeon a letter stating that I am able to make decisions on my own and that the weight loss would probably help my mental state. I didn't have to do the 6 month diet either. My insurance only requires a patient be over 18, bmi of 40+, and bariatric center of excellence. I don't have to drive hours to the hospital like some members do. I live 10 minutes away. You know, I have quite a few things to be happy about. I only have 43 days to go. I hope your appointment on the 19th goes well.

I understand completely. I go today for surgery date. And I thought it was preop. I had did all required. So I'm sure I'll be at the end of June. Let me know when your date is..

I am scheduled for surgery on June 25th. I read all these these threads where everyone is so excited that they finally have a surgery date. Instead of being excited, I am just mad that my surgery date is so far away. Not saying that I am not happy about my upcoming surgery, I am very happy about it. I am also hurt, I don't have hardly any friends and pretty much the only two close friends I have, have totally ditched me because they can't have the surgery too. My husband just says they are jealous. He says I should just be happy that I didn't have to jump thru all the hoops that most people do and I am only having to pay 75.00 dollars out of pocket for my surgery. I should be happy, but why do I feel so down?

Insurance companies have to have a date of service to process your file. When I called the insurance company to check on the status of my case they told me that proposed date was May 6th. When I was approved my surgery was scheduled for June 25th.

At the seminar I went to, the surgeon did mention gallbladder issues from the rapid weight loss due to WLS. He did say it was fairly common. It is even mentioned in my handbook. He doesn't prescribe anything for gallbladder issues like some of the member's surgeons do. Honestly I kinda wish they would take it out when they do my bypass. I have had 6 surgeries on my back and I really don't want to have multiple surgeries on abdominal region.
