  1. Hi guys, I'm needing some encouragement. I had surgery on February 12th and was out of the hospital in two days. I was readmitted to the hospital on Saturday because everything I swallowed caused nausea-so I had stopped drinking. I was dehydrated when I got to the hospital and they had me do a swallow test-which showed that my liquid was getting stopped up by my diaphragm and also while entering my stomach. I was on fluids in the hospital for 2 days and released home with a picc line for at home infusions of TPN. I had a lot of anxiety about doing at home infusions. My home health nurse discovered my picc line was clogged because she could not flush it..it was also causing me pressure on my chest. My doctor had her pull the picc line out a little bit which really didn't help any. Today I took some anti nausea medication and not 10 minutes later experienced intense nausea. I was dry heaving for 45 minutes and my doctors office just kept transferring us to voicemail. Finally called my very helpful home health nurse who called and told the office they needed to call me back. Finally the physician assistant called and said she was going to prescribe an anti anxiety medication. This made me so upset. I do suffer from bad anxiety but I feel like they are not taking me seriously because of it. Like trying to get a hold of them was such an inconvience. They didnt address the stomach pain and said as long as 1 line of my picc is working they are going to leave it in. Dry heaving for 45 minutes made me exhausted and caused a lot of stomach pain. Tonight I was able to eat a popsicle but I feel a lot of pressure when I swallow. It doesn't go down smoothly. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar. It's so uncomfortable to swallow and this picc line makes me nervous and it hurts. I just can't see the light at the end of the tunnel right now and I'm really discouraged
  2. You need to get a consultation with a lawyer. If you quit a job unemployment will deny you...whatever the reason. If you were bullied into quitting a lawyer can argue that. If you have text messages telling you that you need to quit they are safe from paying you unemployment. Lawyer up! You should be able to get loss of wages from the company. If someone from their company is texting and bullying you they are responsible for her behavior. The unemployment office will continue to deny you..Please keep us updated!
  3. Make sure to ask for early boarding so you can get the right seat. They will allow early boarding for medical usually no questions asked. Every time I have flown I ask for early boarding because being obese and flying is no fun! It takes the stress of finding the right seat away. Good luck!
  4. I am having some issues with swelling that are causing my nausea when I eat. They are hoping this will give me enough to heal. I just have read it can cause weight gain and since every post bariatric patient is concerned about that I thought I'd ask...did you experience normal weight loss on TPN? Also is everything okay now? No leak? If you don't mind me asking

  6. So I have been released from the hospital on my second stay after surgery. On Saturday I was unable to eat or drink due to nausea. I was admitted to the hospital and given fluids then sent home to do at home infusions of "TPN". Has anyone been on a TPN infusion to speed up recovery and did you experience weight gain or a slowed weight loss? I got surgery to lose weight dammit!
  7. I called my insurance company over a week ago and they told me I was approved for my surgery. So after a week and a half of calling the doctor's office to confirm they got the approval letter she tells me they never received anything. So she calls them and it turns out they pre approved me to submit the documents to see if I'm approved for my surgery. WTF! Seriously? They had to get authorization before even sending the paperwork. Now I have another 15 days of waiting. Not to mention when I told her I was approved she told me they were so backed up they were scheduling surgeries for April. I just needed to vent.
  8. Looks like I've got some obstruction in the top of my stomach. ..did a swallow test (ew) that determined that. They admitted me to make sure I could get the fluids I need and tomorrow I will see the doctor for an endoscopy to see what's causing it
  9. Straight from my district manager..she said she needed to check on things. I did get a letter from my insurance approving the surgery and deeming it medically necessary. Would you qualify for unemployment in that situation? I work as a retail manager...retail doesn't stop for anyone . I'm lucky I got this much time..my district manager is extremely understanding. .but she's got a business to run too
  10. Called the answering service and the doctor sent me to the ER for fluids and X rays
  11. I had surgery about a week ago...I was due to go back to work tomorrow but my doctor would not release me for another week. My work explained because it was an elective surgery if my date to come back was extended any further than that I would probably lose my job. I am currently on my way to the ER for pains and dehydration. Did anyone have this experience where complications made them unable to work...what are my options of I do lose my job? I have not worked for the company long enough to qualify for FMLA. I'm scared because I'm trying to recover but the thought of losing my job makes me so anxious...I would be sick with no health insurance and no income. I feel discriminated against because it was "elective" and it was bariatric surgery..like I did it for vanity or something
  12. I just did a test and it looks like it's all liquids that are making me nauseous. Il have to focus really hard to not vomit even after water
  13. Has anyone else had this problem? I've been drinking protein shakes for about 4 days and all of a sudden I've developed an intolerance. I tried to have a little sugar free pudding the other day and felt the same nausea. Could I be lactose intolerate? Also what do I do now to get my protein?
  14. It's closer to my belly button
  15. Do you guys notice it when you eat? I just ate a little sugar free pudding and it comes in and out as I swallow
  16. Hi guys, I'm 8 days post op and I'm having a really interesting pain in my stomach. The pain is kind of like what you feel when you bend or twist you abdominal muscles and you get that twinge where you can almost feel the internal stiches. But after eating a little cream soup the pain is the same but instead of a twinge it's more like throbbing now. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Should I be nervous?
  17. Sugar free Popsicles are on my approved food list. They were giving them to me in the hospital the day after my surgery. So you should be good!
  18. Did you blend the soups in the blender or just chew really well?
  19. So my number 1 concern before surgery was blood clots. I asked a lot of questions before and after and my medical team did not seem as concerned as I was. I am Post op 7 days now and I'm wondering if anyone experienced leg cramping and pain like I am. I get cramps in both legs but tonight my right leg is cramping and throbbing. No redness and no swelling and it's not hot to touch...did anyone experience any if this?
  20. 6 days post op here and I have the same thing. I had them before I left hospital and the doctor told me thats normal! I developed a few more after I left the hospital...I imagine it just has to do with the internal trauma
  21. Hey guys! I need some help coming up with some full liquid diet meal ideas. What was some of your favorite things to have when you were on the full liquid diet?
  22. Yeah I kept telling the nurse in the room you wake up in that I couldn't breathe..and her reply was..."Yeah..you can, you're breathing" lol..then they move you onto your hospital room bed and that seriously sucked!! Okay i'm going for it. I want something savory but because I need the nutritition i'm going to blend a protein shake! I'll let you know how it goes!
  23. Yeah its gonna be tough going back to work on Sunday but my boss said shed accomadate me with coming back slower which will be nice. I do a considerable amount of bending and lifting at work that I will make sure not to do in the beginging..unfortunately i've got to work. I'm feeling really weak because I'm not getting any protein in..all of my clear liquid diet protien options are so hard to swallow because of the taste. I tried to mix unjury with broth and I got a liquid with a bunch of little powerded cubes in it. THe unjury wouldn't disolve..I've tried putting it in crystal light and I get a thick white wet powerder that sits on the top of the drink. I've tried mixing even the tinest bit and I can't seem to get it a consistency or texture that I can handle. I also had a bad texture problem with foods. I have not had any problem holding clear liquid down and tonight I wanted to try to have a protein shake so I could get something with some nutritual value in my body. My surgery was really early in the morning Wednesday and they said they usually counted wednesday as a full day post op. So 6 days post op today and I can start a full liquid diet 1 week after surgery. Should I try a protein shake tonight? Any suggestions? Anyone who started their full liquid a little early?
  24. Day 6 post op. I gotta say I'm having a hard time getting all my liquids in. I have yet to hit 64 oz in a day. I'm feeling really weak because of that. I have my first pre-op appointment with my surgeon on Thursday where I can hopefully get my staples removed. I'm still in a considerable amount of pain-most of it from gas pressure and the internal stitches. I've been running a small fever on and off and I can see that my stomach is a little swollen. I dont have the most supportive of work enviorments and the thought of going back on Sunday is scaring me. i dunno if I can stand for a full 8 hours..if you were to ask me to do that today I would last probably 1 hour. So we will see how that goes. If any pre op's are reading this thread I guess the most important thing I've learned so far is that-THIS IS A PAINFUL SURGERY. THE PAIN WILL NOT BE CONTROLLED BY YOUR PAIN MEDS. Thats what I thought going in..that I would only have pain if I was off my meds...not true!!
  25. So last night I learned that even though they SAY to call them if you have questions your surgeons DO NOT MEAN IT! I hadn't been gulping and I gave myself a lot of time to digest what I had taken in but I couldn't get ride of the swollen throat feeling. I had problems finding a pain med in the hospital and I didn't want to take my pain meds and fall asleep and risk an allergy that would close my airway off. I called the answering service and my surgeron was on call, he called me back and sounded half asleep and REALLY annoyed. He told me to take benedryl and kinda just brushed me off. I felt bad for calling but I was told that if I was having anxiety I could call to get answers..so I'm feeling a little crappy about that because I had previously really enjoyed my surgeon and his program. I think the crystal light I was drinking constantly was itching my throat..i've since switched to Water and the lump in my throat has gone down. Im struggling with some serious head hunger. I'm sick of broth, water, Jello and popsicles. Any suggestions to switch up the menu a bit? I had another rough night last night because I dont have the most conformtable bed and I also decided not to take my narcotic pain meds last night. I woke up in the middle of the night in serious pain...mostly my back. Finally this morning after my throat started to feel better so I started back up on my pain meds and got a little sleep. Feeling really weak but my incisions are healing nicley...just wish I could could a grip on the head hunger! It doens't help that today is my sisters birthday and theres cake and ice cream everywhere. I atleast know its not actual hunger because I feel full!!
