10day post-op update
Good morning everyone.......I had my surgery on Tuesday, July 8th. I had very little pain and no real issues. I spent 2 days in the hospital and was released on Thursday afternoon. The only issue I had after discharge was my leg swelling up due to being off my meds for 2 weeks. This gave me problems for walking the first couple of days home, I did get back on my medication and with in hours I was feeling much better. Last Thursday I went back to my doctors to get the drain removed and have my 1st check up. Everything went well and I have lost my first 11lbs/in 10 days post-op. I am not having any real hunger pains, but the stage 1 diet is getting old very fast. The good news is that I move on to stage 2 eating today I feel great and am so happy I did this. And I should have done it 20 years ago. I'm 68 years old , so if there's any of my senior buddies wondering if you can do this, i'm proof you can! I will keep you posted on my progress and good luck to all of us as we embark and travel this new life together.

Hi Angel! Overall I am feeling very good as far a the surgery went. No pain and just trying to g et on this schedule for stage 1 food. The only major problem I have is severe knee pain. It was so bad yesterday I went to the emergency room, as I was afraid of blood cloths. Very swollen and painful. Go news, no clots, Just a bad case of arthritis. I have been off those pain meds for my knee for 2 weeks and the pain finally kicked in yesterday. I just have to handle it till my meds come back. Just hang in there and it will get better. Time is on our side in our journey! Please keep me posted and I hope you start feeling better soon,

Why am I able to eat all day?
Misty Raine.....Glad to hear your doing well. My first meal yesterday noon was exactly the same as yours. Like you couldn't finish but half of it. I was released in the afternoon and spent my first nite in my recliner instead of my bed. Just could not handle the flat bed yet. So my chair is my new friend, haha. Gonna have a little protein shake and pudding for breakfast. And i'm sure it wont be much. Keep us posted! Can't wait to see what today brings

Looking for 7/8 surgery buddies
I am a July 8th surgery date. And I am very nervous about it. I'm older [68] and I wonder if I am going to be able to break all these old habits of mine. I want to succeed and finally get my self healthy. I only have to do 1 day of Clear liquids on Monday, so I know I can handle that. But I am ready to get moving and get on with my new life. I would love to be a buddy to anyone who wants to follow my story. Hopefully I can give some valuable info. on my daily experiences. Either way, good luck to you all and I will be watching for your up date.

I'm being a bad girl.....
Hey RuthFour......Go for it like i'm doing. I have had the same issue thinking I could do it myself. Guess what...I cant. I am 68 years old and having my gastric bypass on July 8th. Only 1 week away. My doctor has actually done surgery on a 74 year old , with great success. I need all the help I can get and I am ready. I want to be around for another 20 years or so, so I will make these changes necessary. Please keep me posted on your journey! Us seniors gotta stick together. We can do it!!!!

pre-op diet worries
That's great to hear. My pre--op is tomorrow and I will find out when i have to start my liquid form. I have opted for the GNC premixed lean shakes. A little pricey, but their 14 0z. bottle and contain 25 grams of protein. And they taste good!. Not sure what else to expect, but I am ready for it. And its good to see I am not the only 68 year old with this surgery ahead of them. Good luck....

Looks like i am switching teams.
You sound a lot like me. I too had planned on the sleeve but was told the same as you. I have gerd and Barretts also. My knees , shoulders and hands ache from arthritis. I had lost about 50 lbs back 5 years ago and after a rotator cuff major injury, I put it all back on. I started this process back in December and I am nearly at the end. With all my issues I will go with my doctors suggestion, gastric bypass. July 8th is my date and I cant wait to start this and extend my life I am 68 years old and I want to outlive the rest of my sibling who have all passed from cancer. I am ready to finally conquer this demon I have.
