  1. I have battled weight my entire life. Although, never obese, I was over weight. Like most everyone interested in weight loss surgery, I was tired of fighting so hard and seeing so little results. My pre op BMI was 29. When I first started researching my options I found some physicians here in the US that would Do a sleeve for around $14,000 and had a very long delay before I could even get in for a consult let alone book surgery. Since I was willing to pay cash anyway-vs insurance I decided to look into my options in Mexico. I decided on Dr Ortiz in Tijuana. I paid about half of what the US quoted me and I was able to get the surgery much sooner than anyone offered me in the US. I got a Gastric Plication. The surgery center was very clean and the staff was very nice. All of the Drs spoke English fluently. It has been 6 weeks since my surgery and I have lost 25 lbs. I hope to lose another 8-10 The surgery center has been very good following up with me and this forum has helped me quite a bit also. I would do this surgery again in a heart beat! I am so thankful to finally have results after a lifetime of food and exercise issues. My husband was not thrilled with the idea of me having the surgery, or going to Mexico for it- he is a surgeon. But my husband is now appreciating the change in my appearance as well as the change in my attitude! I weighed 161 before the pre op diet and 157 the day of surgery. Today I weigh 134 and I am 5'3" Dr Ortiz said I was such a good candidate for the surgery because of my dedication and enthusiasm for exercise. I wish you luck in any decision you make, please let me know if you have any more specific questions!
  2. I had my surgery on April 19 with Dr Ortiz at OCC in Tijuana. For the most part I am feeling well. I have lost 16 lbs including pre-op diet. Today I played tennis- 14 days post op- and I felt pretty good. My problem is in the evenings. Of course the first 3 days were mostly uncomfortable 24/7 but ok for the past week. Then these past few days I have been very uncomfortable when I go to bed. When I lay down, even partially, I have a deep sharp pain, deep below my incision sight on my left side. Could my tummy be too full even though it is several hours since last juice/soup? Gas? It is less painful when I sit upright and even less when I stand. Does anyone else have this? Also- for those of you much further out, will I ever be able to sleep on my side? Thank you for any feedback.
  3. I had surgery on Thursday April 19 with Dr Ortiz. I am down 13 lbs since pre-op diet! I hope you continue to do well- I am nervous because I am so very hungry in the evenings! I hope I can keep the momentum going! Best of luck to ou!
