  1. Hi Janifer! Just wanted to give you an update...I had my surgery on 10/29. I had quite a bit of pain for the first 24 hours or so until they finally was able to manage it with the correct pain meds. They said that since I have chronic back pain and I am on daily pain meds already, that the normal pain meds that they give someone coming out of surgery was not working for me. They adjusted everything though and got the pain tolerable. So after that, I only had to stay 2 nights and once I could tolerate full liquids they let me go home. I went through my first week with full liquids ok. I did get very emotional for a few days starting on the Saturday after my surgery. That was a little rough, but it seemed to last about 3 days and then I was ok. Now I'm just in the middle of my 2nd week and I am able to eat puréed food. That was exciting! I've never really cared too much for refried beans, but let me tell ya, those beans with some melted reduced fat cheese and just a little scoop of Greek yogurt tasted amazing that first day!! Everyday things are getting better and better and I'm so glad that I made the decision that I made! I wouldn't change it for nothing in the world! So how are you doing? Hope everything is well with you!
  2. Welcome Julia! I'm glad you're here! As everyone has already said this is a really great place to come for advice and support. Any questions that I have ever asked, I always have gotten a very caring response that seems to come from the heart. There are really good caring folks on this site. With that said, my name is Ronette, I am 37 years old and I'm from IN. I have been overweight pretty much all of my life. I have dieted off and on for many years. Losing weight and then gaining it back. Before I got pregnant with my 9 year old daughter I lost 50 lbs. While I was pregnant, I gained all of that weight back, plus a whole lot more. In the last 9 years I have gotten bigger than I have ever been. My largest weight was 413 lbs. I had thought about the surgery a few years ago, but I had heard a few horror stories that scared me. Finally, in February 2013 I looked at my 9 year old one day and realized that if I didn't do something I would be dead within 5 years! I also thought about the fact that I had never been able to take my daughter to the park or do any activities that require me to move a lot, just because of my weight. So I contacted my surgeon and came in for my first appt. My doctor put me on a LRD and told me I had to do 6 months of swl classes. In those 6 months I lost 94 lbs. on my own. My surgery date was Tuesday October 29th 2013 and on that day I weighed 319 lbs. It has been a week and a half after surgery and I feel pretty good! I have an appt. on Thursday and if my home scales are accurate, I have lost another 18 lbs. since my surgery! I have had a few emotional issues since I had the surgery, but I wouldn't change anything I did for the world! So again, welcome and if you need anything or just want to talk, I am always here!!

  16. I've really enjoyed reading all of these! So, lets see, I won't miss not being able to go to the park with my daughter. I won't miss not wanting to embarrass my daughter in school, so I do all her conferences over the phone instead of going to her school. I won't miss having to be pushed in a wheelchair because I'm so fat I can't walk very far distances. I won't miss not being able to fit in a chair at the doctors office. I won't miss having to ask for a table with chairs at a restaurant because I can't fit in a booth, and then being scared i will break the chair. i wont miss not being able to sleep for more than 4 hours at a time because I wake up in excruciating pain in my back and hips. I won't miss insulin. I won't miss people talking about me to other people under their breath. I won't miss all the looks i get from people. I won't miss being trapped in my own fat suit and not being able to do hardly anything. I won't miss the sweating, the rashes or the GERD. I won't miss having to buy my clothes online because nothing from a store fits. I won't miss feeling like I'm too fat and ugly to ever have a man in my life. I won't miss being the fattest girl in my group. I won't miss people looking at me with pity when they see me struggling because of my obesity. I think that's all for now...lol. Whew!! That felt good to let that out! Thank you everyone!
