How much time did you take off from work?
I'm trying to figure out how much time I should bank. So could you post how much time you took off and what kind of work you do? I'm a programmer but might end up working in a huge print room due to government cut backs. I work 13 hours shifts three days straight. So how much time did you take and was it enough?

Blueberry Muffin - Minimal Dumping
I don't know if everyone has the same symptoms when it comes to "Dumping". Even though I have not had my surgery yet I have had this happen to me twice i the last two years to me. Since I had my gall bladder removed. I can't remember what I ate the first time but the second time I ate three DumDums over the course of a work day and forgot to eat anyting else. About six hours later I was driving home and the Earth shifted. As I got out of my car and went to walk up to my second floor apartment, the top of my head started to sweat and I could barely get my legs up to climb the stairs. When I got to the kitchen I had a glass of milk and a few slices of lunch meat turkey and sat in a chair for a bit. Because of the missing gall bladder I usually have loose stool if I eat too much or fatty things like pizza. But neither time did I have these issue. I know a lot of folks will say my symptoms were hypogycemia but I have no sugar problems and go many times without eating much longer than that.

Sad day
I'm so sorry for your loss. That's one of the worst things about having furry children. I hope your heart mends quickly and you can remember all the joy she brought to you. Yep, crying now too. And I haven't lost a pet since 2005.

Surgery in a hour
Good luck to you. Praying for your speedy recovery here.

Wanna see what was removed?
I didn't think it looked like much either. Then you said the weight. Wholly Cow!!!! Do you feel lighter? OR are areas still swollen from the surgery?

the scale...
I too commend you. I could never focus on weight loss with out have a close relationship with my scale/Wii Fit. I mean without having my personal time with her every morning, how would I know to feel bad about myself?

Family acting different since surgery...
OMG!!!!! Hilarious!!! But totally true.

Family acting different since surgery...
It's easy. You were the fat one. No matter what they could count on you being bigger than them. They could lose or they could gain but they would never be the fat one as long as you held up your part. Now that you have decided to be a healthier you, they see you as not holding up their expectation of you. It's like when people treat you badly for going back to school. "Look at so-and-so thinking they are better than us", people will say. Their problem is not a "you" problem. Some people really hate change. Don't stop being happy about your successes. Only two things can happen, they get over themselves or they don't. And if they don't then you will just find other folks to spend the energy you use to spend on them. Please don't think I was calling YOU fat. I'm just using it as an example.

Is the Protein shake all it claims to be?
Mind you I am still Pre-RNY but I have been using shakes for years. A bullet is great for at home and the plastic cup with the wisk ball is good for on the go. The secret to the bullet is to not over fill it. When making shakes, put a bit of ice in then liquid with your powder on top so when you but it on the engine the powder is getting spun first. Before you put the blade lid on make sure you have atleast an inch of air room in it our it will over flow. In the past I was using Medifast so I was use to going months on just packets of shakes. It does get old. I have found I really like the Spiru-tein shakes. You can find them in single serve packets so you can try the different flavors before commiting to a whole can of it. With a cup of Skim milk you are getting about 23g of Protein. No Fiber so you will have to get that elsewhere. Also a ton less sudium then Medifast. I've been having one shake a day as a Meal Replacement and I don't feel deprived.

19 days post op...weird question!
Could it be Ketosis? Sometimes you get a metal like taste in your mouth. Not to be TMI but I find that when I'm in Ketosis and I use the bathroom it smells like Nail polish remover.

This is for anyone who went in for laparoscopic and it was changed to open
This is an excellent question. I would love to see more folks chime in. Years ago I had a partial hysterectomy. It was to be Lap but when I woke they ended up doing the opening just above my already C-section bikini scar instead of Lap. I really don't know if I took longer to heal cause I never really felt too bad. I would definately hate to wake up to that again though. Mostly becasue I want to out of the hospital a soon as possible. I hate them cause I get no rest and if you can't rest, you can't heal.

Scale...type and brand to buy?
OMG that is so funny. I love at the end when she says, "That's Obese". "No @#$%^& @#$% I'm obese. That's why I'm here." I curse her out every time.

decisions, decisions
I guess it depends. A year from now which would you have rather done?

Scale...type and brand to buy?
Ok, I know I'm gonna be the odd one out but I love my Wii Fit. It is the most accurate scale I have ever had. Of course if you don't have a Wii it would be pointless. But if you do, it has some cute exercises and it remebers all your info. One down size is that the lady is a little mean.

Does anyone know about bill collection?
There are repuptable credit helpers out there. But they don't come to you. They can only work with revolving credit not Cars or House payments. Back in '06 we were swimming in debt. We called and made an appointment with a company approved by my union and we were debt free in less than five years. We could have never done it without them. But we were behind in our payments. I was great to have to phone stop ringing finally.

Can someone help my 16 yo with a job?
She is not alone. It is very hard for kids under 18 to get jobs these days. My daughter, 18 in November, has never had any luck. She interviews very well until they hear she is not 18, she looks older. Somke Dunkin Donuts do hire as do most grocery stores for baggers. My daughter did get a call back from Party City.

Tummy hates rice
Lol. I guess ir depends on what ur use to eating. If your not use to eating grains it can be a trial. Make it in small amounts. With a 1:2 ratio with Water, a quarter if a cup us just ten mins in the microwave. I usually use it instead of rice in a stirfry. If its still a no go then check out the side of a bag of egg noodles. They have more Protein than rice also.

Cold all the time?
My daughter just started a very strict diet due to a food intolerance. About four days in she also was complaining about being cold. Come to find out she was totally missing any good fat in her diet. We ended up making sure we added olive or coconut oil every day. It seems to be a little better.

The Good and the Bad
I think you are doing great!!!! It's good that you were able to come to terms with other issues that you are having and know that you do need help with them. In all fairness to the surgeon, he is just that, a surgeon. They don't deal with the psychological issues of the patients. Luckily we are set up with a multi-disciplinary group for this surgery. Don't be afraid to go back to any of them and pick their brains about any issues you are having. A few years back I lost a very good amount on Medi-fast. I can tell you from experience that rapid weight loss does mess with your head. When those fat cells let loose all those toxins along with the Water, LOOK OUT. Don't lose sight of the fact that you have been very successful with your weight loss. That's not an easy task. Now that you have conqured the physical you can put more into healing the spirit. Good luck but it seems to me that you are doing great.

Constipation @ 5 months after
Now mind u I'm still pre-op. But in the past I would use the pumpkin with cinnamon and sugar substitute. I would start with just a quarter cup once a day. It takes a few days but had success with it.
-
Tummy hates rice
I second quinoa. It is so easy to make and a good source of protein.

Constipation @ 5 months after
How bout something a little more natural. Libbys pure pumpkin is a great source of Fiber with minimal calories. A serving is half a cup with 5grams of fiber and 2grams if Protein for 40calories. It also has niacin and is a good source of Vitamins. Not to be mistaken for canned pie filling.

Psych Appointment In The Morning!
I had my Psych eval yesterday. Real nice Dr. As stated above it was about what were my expectations of the surgery, did I understand the risks, did I have eating disorders, support systems, and all that. I didn't do that huge questionaire but I have in the past for employment. To be honest, that sleep study is a royal pain in the butt. Just keep telling yourself it's only one night. It will be easier if you dont take a nap that day and do stuff to really tire yourself out that day. They stick wires all over your head and arms and legs, but mostly your head. It looks like they ripped open an old gaming console and glued it all over you. Then they put a nasal cannula on you.

Diet coke & pre op diet
OMG I can feel your pain. I quit smoking years ago. I quit going out drinking too. But quiting diet soda is the hardest thing ever. I can go two weeks max and then I almost am itching for it. Too bad it isn't as good without the bubbles. Cause if you could stir the bubbles out of a caffiene free diet soda you would have it made. But *GAG* that's a terrible idea.

No pre-op liquid diet?
After I ask the Dr if I would have to do two weeks of liquid, he ask me how much did I think I could lose pre-surgery? I said 15lbs? He said ok lets do that. And one day just clear fluids. I'm going to Disney World in October so I wanted to lose at least 15 just to give be a bit more energy.
