March 4th... and an intro!
Hey March 4th buddies! Less than 48 hours till we're banded... How wild is that! I've had a rollercoaster of emotions with my pre-op diet and blood work, but it looks like almost everything is resolved and I'm good to go... Just can't wait to get started! xox, luck and love to all.

How did you answer friends' questions?
Just thought I'd jump in here. I'm not banded yet -surgery is scheduled for this Wednesday, though I'm terrified something could change because I keep getting messed up blood work and having to go back to the Dr's... But anyways. At first I was like I am not going to tell a soul. Like just mom and dad, that's it. But then I told my roommate. Figured I had to, we live together after all. Then decided to tell one of my best friends who live across the country. Then kept telling - not a ton of people, but the friends who would notice that I wasn't eating (on pre-op) and the ones who I know would support me. I also told my sister-in-law and my brother, because I think it's important to have a support in my family other than my parents, who drive me kinda crazy. All in all, 11 people know now... probably 12 actually cause I think the roommate told her boyfriend, which doesn't exactly delight me, but what can ya do. The good thing I've found about telling people is it really reinforces why I'm doing it - when I explain what the band is and what it does, I remind myself of how excited I am to be on this journey. When people ask what the struggles are, I am reminded it is a tool and not a solution. Anyways, it's now only T minus 3.5 days... Hopefully. xoxox angie

Calling All MARCH '09 Bandsters - We need a name!
Hi there, Obviously I haven't been banded yet, so I'm not a complete expert, but first of all, I wanna say don't give up hope! My first few days of the liquid diet were utter-hell, but I'm now one week in and it's a lot better. Not just cause I'm in ketosis, but cause I'm used to it. About what you said about your reasons for considering canceling.... You aren't gonna live your life with no choices. If you choose to have a glass of wine sometimes, it isn't going to kill you, it just might slow down your weight loss a little bit. Beer could be iffy cause of the carbonation, but really, I don't think that at the proper restriction, there is anything you'll have to avoid completely, just some things you'll have to enjoy in moderation, or knowing that you're choosing to enjoy that food or drink at the cost of a loss that week - which I think is a totally realistic and fine thing to choose sometimes. I hope you start to find pre-op easier, and let us know if there's any way we can support you! xox angie

Things I won't/don't miss about being Obese
I love this thread. I will not miss... Not being able to fit into designer jeans Automatically grabbing the XL or L (if thats all they have) in a store and *hoping* it'll fit Wearing leggings and dresses all the time Shopping at plus-size stores Having to shop at the big-boobie-bra-boutique My thighs chaffing when I go for a long walk in a skirt. Feeling like it's not worth it to look good (hair and makeup) cause my body is still fat. Having people say I have a such a pretty face (with the implied if only your body matched) Being afraid of sailing, windsurfing, canoeing etc - for the fear I'll fall out of the boat and won't have the strength/will be too heavy for someone to be able to pull me back in. Going to McDonalds and ordering an extra drink so they don't know it's all for me... Having guys be plenty happy to hook up with me but never want to call me their girlfriend. Ah there are so many, those are the first that come to my mind...

Who thinks the liver shrinking diet is a made up torture tool
What an appropriate thread for me -I feel like I'm literally in HELL. I am on day 3 of a two-week pre-op Medi-Trim and raw veggies ONLY diet, and it's killer. I hate the shakes, I'm supposed to have 3 totally 750 cals and 230 cals of raw green veggies a day... In the past 2 days I've never gotten more than 1.5 shakes and a bit of veggies down... I feel SO weak and like s**t, but I just have to say... One day at a time, and it'll be worth it. Angie

so... about alcohol...
My doctor said it's not specifically something that can hurt you or mess your band up - it's just liquid calories. You can decide how worth it or not they are for you.

The scoop on my date tonight..
Yay good for you! I'm three weeks away from banding, one from my pre-op diet, and I just read all your entries... You are doing SO well! So excited bout this date for you!

confused and needs help please
Hi there, Congrats on getting out of what sounds like a bad relationship. I was wondering, since your bmi is quite low for someone getting banded - have you ever thought of the Gastric Balloon? I'm in Canada, obviously you wouldn't come here for your surgery but my clinic does it and seems to have some good info on it... From what I've read it's done quite a few places in Europe. here, check it out HERE hope this helps! angie

Angie's Introduction
Hi Everybody! I am booked for March 4th... Less than a month to go now and I am so so excited! I'm going to be banded by Dr. Cobourn at the Surgical Weight Loss Centre in Mississauga (just outside of Toronto), Canada. I'm 23 years old and have been overweight since I was about 9, and obese since I was around 14. I, with help from my parents am paying for my own surgery, as it is not covered by our Canadian health care and I don't get medical insurance through my crappy job. I am so so excited to get started... I'm even kind of excited to start my 2 week pre-op diet. My clinic has us consume only Medi-Fast for two weeks - it's apparently really hard for the first two days but then you get your body into Ketosis and just pee a lot and have bad breath. I am so so excited about this. For the first time in my life I feel like I am taking control of my weight, and I feel soooooo empowered! I have a blog, the link is in my signature and since all I wanna talk about these days is banding, I've been writing a ton... Check that out! I'm so excited to get to know you guys! xoxox Angie

Girls Like Boys
I'm so happy I found this section of the forum! I totally relate to so much of what you guys are saying... Guys happy to hook up with us late at night, but never wanting people to know, never willing to call us a girlfriend. I "saw" this guy for 6 months, we were the bestest of friends before that, it was like we were dating but never were, then one night we hooked up, and then - to me we were dating. I mean we went out for dinner, saw movies together, went to parties together - they went home and hooked up. If that's not a relationship idk what is! But I could tell he just didn't want to call it that... Because he is hot and buff and all that, and had never dated a girl who was less than perfect... So we were "just friends who hooked up sometimes." But then I had to move away, totally not his fault... But he's SO cold to me now... I know he had feelings for me, and I can't wait to go back, have him see me at a healthier (LOWER) weight, and totally ignore him. Haha! Good luck to all of you... I'm getting banded on March 4th and I CAN. NOT. WAIT!!! xoxoxox
