For those of you that don't know, I have submitted to Cigna insurance and was denied my first time because the letter from my Primary Care Physician didn't have "Medical Clearance" information in it. Also my Psyc and Dietitian visits were older than 6 months. I have those visits this week and then i'm sending my appeal. No worries tho. As soon as I regain consciousness I plan on updating also. Very Thorough. So I got the phone call today. I got denied. They told me that my packet lacked one piece of information that was necessary. Even tho my PCP wrote a letter of approval and stated it was medically necessary, she didnt write a letter that stated I was "Cleared for Surgery". So I will have to appeal. It's upsetting that this isn't even a requirement on my plan. But no stressing...

I called friday around 4pm and they told me that my file has been sent to the medical director for review and i should know something by Monday(today) around noon. Cross your fingers. How far are you in the process?

So it's been 8 days since we submitted to insurance. I still haven't heard anything. The last time I called, they told me it could be between 5-7 days. I hope it's not a denial.

It could be any day now... Still waiting for insurance approval. For my fellow Cigna insurers, how long did it take for you all?

Im excited but im a bag of nerves right now. I really hope I get a speedy approval....

I called Cigna and they told me that if I were to have lost a lot then it wouldn't be a need for surgical intervention. They said if anything it would benefit my request for approval and prove my struggle with weight loss. Suprised! I submitted to Insurance today too. Now im excited.

With my plan it states that I have to have a supervised 3 month diet. That is all the info that was given to me. No one ever said I should lose a certain amount. Has anyone ever been turned down for nit losing during the 3 month diet

There is no certain amount of weight that I have to lose. I was doing the 3 month diet based on Cigna requirements.

So this is Month #3 in my supervised diet. After this I file for insurance. The first month I lost 5 lbs. The second month I gained 4. This month I gained 2. My appointment is this morning. I have taken a laxative out of desperation and plan on wearing a tee shirt and gym shorts. I feel like a failure. Will insurance deny me?

We have had patients in our sleep lab who are unable to fall asleep or their sleep just isn't sufficient. In their cases, the Dr only sends them back anyway. It is important, regardless of what you may have been told, to find a sleep aid prior to the study if u already have insomnia. It saves you a lot of time and hassle. If an OTC aid is not sufficient for you then your dr would be able to help.

Hopefully I could put some ease to the topic. I'm a Registered sleep Technologist. The key reason for a Sleep Study prior to any major surgery is due to breathing or apnea issues as it relates to being put to sleep. While we are being sedated and put under, it is normal for us to have a higher risk of sleep disordered breathing than what we may already have. Also it is good to have one to detect an additional comorbidity for a better chance at insurance approval.

Mine was preceded by a one on one seminar with the bariatric nurse, so she answered most of my questions. When he walked in he went through my medical history, overview the options of surgery, brief explanation of hospital stay and life after, and then a brief physical exam.
