Waiting...
Oh thank you! I wouldn't give up hope though, check with the insurance again after the first of the year. Things might change and they are not about to announce changes like that if they can put you off. There is a woman where I work who has the same insurance as I do. She had a lap band surgery in Jan 2012. They required her to have 6 months then, but when I called this week they said, "We are making it easier for people to get these procedures." No diet at all is required currently. It was weird...my doctor required at least three months. Like I said, when I called 7 years ago, they required 18 months! Will the surgeon let you pay off the deductible?

I just got word I was approved today and was scheduled for surgery. It happened so much faster than I thought and I hope it is the same for you!

Dealing With Judgmental Idiots
The reality is that people can make a documentary about anything and find" experts" to support their views. Don't let other people's narrow minds undermine your confidence in the decisions you make to make your life better. Tell that instructor to mind her own business with regard to what you should tellvyour doctor.

Itsy Bitsy Baby Step Of Progress
I had been getting anxious. Waiting for an email from either the customer service of my insurance or the insurance coordinator at my surgeon's office telling me that my paperwork was submitted. I didn't hear from either, so I called my insurance company. It was submitted on November 30! The rep was nice and said it takes 3 days to review. If the office is on the ball, I could have a date by next week. Best news...the six month diet is no longer required! That would have been a serious delay! Phew! When I called the first time six years ago, they required 18 months if you were not diabetic or a cardiac patient!

Heat
Good to hear. I figure some point in my life, I'll want something hot. I really never heard anyone who is post surgical say they've tried it. There is a person in a support group I attend who scares the crap out of me with all her food intolerance stories, so I definitely didn't want to ask there.

Insurance is the worst part, I think. At least so far!

Anyone able to tolerate hot or spicy food after recovery from RNY surgery? I have never heard anyone ask this, but I've seen a few chili recipes and some people using taco seasoning...

Thank you. It's been my experience so far that people going through WLS surgery are a welcoming bunch. I have really learned a lot and avoided some mistakes and delays because of support from this community. It's a roller coaster for sure. I cannot even think of a situation like it.

Pre-Op And Scared
I am pretty terrified myself. I probably won't have a date until February and I've been crying a lot lately. Logically I know it's normal and I just want to get on with it all. It's a big decision and once you make it, you have a lot of time to mull over all that could go wrong before it happens.
