  1. My stomach hurts. I cant tell if it is because I waited too long to eat, or if I am just scared sh*%tless...LOL We are staying up late bc my surgery is not until 1:00pm tomorrow and I cannot eat in the morning. I would rather just sleep until that last minute possible. GOod luck to those of us being banded tomorrow. Oh and I think my stomach hurts bc I am scared bc it started hurting a few minutes ago right after I spoke with the anesthesiologist...LOL IT"S ALL MENTAL!!!
  2. awesome, ladies!! We wil lall be ok in a few days. We can finally begin our journey!! I wen t shopping today for the bra without an underwire, and I ended trying on a few clothes (shopaholic?) I was sooo surprised!! I am already able to fit into clothes a size down and my friend said I looked good in them!! WE decided though to get some that were even smaller so I could celebrate as the pounds were released!!! Good luck all of you that are entering band land tomorrow! You are all in my thoughts!
  3. Joyce, While this is her decision, I would like to chime in. I have been overweight my whole life. I topped out earlier this year at 306 and shortly thereafter, my life drastically changed. I fell seriously ill and was diagnosed with diabetes. When I attempted weightloss the "right" way in most people's opinion, I ended up doing immense damage to my left knee that will never recover. All that because of a treadmill and my willingness to fight hard for weight loss. Now that I am sidelined with the knee injury, I have to starve myself to lose weight. This is NO QUALITY OF LIFE! While I am happily married, if something isnt done now I will NEVER have children of my own. I would have given anything to have an option like this when I was 16 years old and 230 and again at 18 years old and 250 you get the point. While it is not an easy decision to make to be banded at 16, the decision will get easier as she continues to gain weight. Did I ever think it was possible for me to have Type 2 diabetes at 25 years old?? NO. Even if it is 2 years from know when she decides to get the band, most of the people on this forum will tell you that it was the BEST decision they ever made and it was the RIGHT one. My suregery is Tuesday, and if I start know, I can reverse the Diabetes and live a longer healthier life and have a chance to be a mother. This gives me hope and strenght to move forward. I hope my story helps! Good luck and keep us posted if you don't mind!
  4. Well, since I started this whole process I have lost 20 pounds!!!! I hit the big 20 mark today!! I am on the preop diet so that is accellerating things a bit, but I am happy to be here and even happier that I will hit the milestone of 50, 75, 100... !!! I am 2 days out from surgery on the 16th!! I am excited and scared!! Those being banded on monday: Good luck!!
  5. Well, my diet didnt sound hard but I am ssooo hungry. I am on day five of the pre-op and today I wanted to scream or pull my hair out!!! It shouldnt be this hard, I think. My doc prescribes phase one of the South Beach diet, but still need to keep it low cal as well so it is not like an all you can eat buffet of chicken and vegetables....at least if I could eat those when I was hungry I would feel better....Also starting to get grouchy....I dont like myself when I am grouchy, and I am sure no one else does either....lol.Tuesday please come soon!
  6. Here goes!! I am 25 and happily married for 3 and a 1/2 years. No kids but 3 cats. I love home and garden TV because I love to decorate. Eventually I want to flip houses, but for now I work for a large snack and beverage company as an accounting specialist, and go to school for business management. I am very close to my family, so I spend alot of time with them. Thats about it for me... This was taken in our dining room as a before picture, but it is the only one I have ( I dont like to take pictures).
  7. LOL..that sounds hilarious about the doctor in Texas.... What is his name, just curious bc I am having surgery on 10/16/07 In Dallas with Dr. Fox. I love Dr. Fox... He is great. VERY VERY strict, but great! He has actually refused to do surgery before bc the patient didnt do the preop diet! Now that means business!!...lol
  8. I just found out I was rescheduled from the 17th to the 16th. At least it wasnt later I guess. They said my insurance wouldn't cover it at the original location and that I needed to go to another day surgery center...OK, I guess...
  9. Lets all give our well wishes to the ones being banded tomorrow! We hope to see you back soon to hear how you are all doing! Thank you everyone for sharing in this very exciting and terrifying time for us all...Good night and good luck! Melissa
  10. Well, I had my final appt on 10/04 and I will be banded on 10/17. My appt was great! My doc spent about an hour with me explaining everything again and answering all 21 questions I had..LOL He even showed me exactly where each scar was going to be on me! Hope you have a great experience too. It is real now! I just go in at 7:00am on the 17th and that is that! There are no more hurdles or meetings or appts! I feel so liberated...oh and terrified....LOL
  11. My doc told me to take two Flinstone Vitamins. I compared the vitamins at the store and you get more Iron if you take two Flinstones than you get in a Women's One a Day vitamin! That to me is awesome because I often get iron deficient.
  12. This list is pretty good! You can also get big quantities of things like Flinstones chewable vitamins (my doc told me to use those) at club stores like SAM's. I got a big bottle of 300 Flinstone-like (generic) chewable vitamins for $6.88! Hope this helps!
  13. Thanks guys,. I feel really comfortable with him. I have never felt that way about a doctor. This is a good thing!
  14. Hello all!! I had my pre-op appt w/ Dr. Fox and I was so impressed with the time he spent and the detail I got of the procedure. He spent a little over an hour with me explaining EVERYTHING! Has anyone here had him as a surgeon and already has the band? If he is as good at surgery as he is informing his patients of ALL possibilities, then I have nothing to worry about! I would appreciate any feedback! Thanks!
  15. I know how you feel. I am being banded on 10/17 and I have only two kinds of days at this point: days where I am scared to death about what I am about to do, and days where I cannot wait for the surgery day to come. I will be so glad when my day arrives so I can get off this emotional rollercoaster that I have been on for months...LOL At least I know that my life will be better after all of this is final. Hang in there, and talk to people if you can. It helps to let people know what you are feeling (if you even know yourself:o) Good luck and people here will always listen and support you!
  16. No, I am not a nurse, but maybe I will be someday. I was about to enter nursing school when I threw my back out. I am heavy and it caused my back to not heal well. I still have trouble with it, but I am hoping that when I lose weight I can strenghten my back and go for my dream! (sorry about the unrelated tangent) LOL. Spiegl.biz: Thanks for the book referral. I will check it out!!
  17. I had my pre-op appt today and Dr. Fox told me that they give you a shot of blood thinner before the surgery and use the foot pumps to reduce the risk of you forming a blood clot. Blood clots are very dangerous, even deadly in some cases. So that is also why they want you up walking about an hour after surgery, he said. Hope this helps!
  18. I totally understand. food is my life. Isnt that sad? All my family ever wants to do is go out to eat. My best friend said that this Friday before I start my prop diet we should "gorge" ourselves. While I am terrified to "break up" I am more terrified of what food will do to me if i dont break up with food. I have had more health problems in the last year than I have had my whole life and it will only get worse. Food will only become more and more abusive until it kills me. So my decision is made to leave food and become only friends to save my life. I think that is the best decision I have ever made. While I am terrified of surgery, I am ready to face my fear and ready to live again. -Melissa
  19. Thanks! I feel good about the 17th. Everything kind of fell into place so it feels right. Thanks for the info on Tylenol. I went looking today and didnt find any. I will keep looking. Meanwhile I am back into the stage where I just want the surgery right now. It will come faster than I think though. Just waiting now!! I will start my preop diet very soon! :whoo:
  20. Hello. Everone's experience could be drastically different. I jumped through hoops in the insurance circus and finally have a date of 10/17/07 and I go for my prop appointment this thursday 10/04/07 to get my pre-op diet. I started on 06/30/07. so I guess your answer would be 3 1/2 months. It will all be worth it in the end. You may be one of the lucky ones and get through quickly! Good luck on your journey!
  21. :whoo:Hello there all!! I am going to be banded on October 17th!! Woo hoo! Hope we all have great success!!
  22. Me too! I am being banded on the 17th. I got a nice surgeon, he just requires 1 week of phase one of the South Beach Diet. Hope you get better, I have been taking airborn because everone around me is sick, I dont want to be sick, they wont do the surgery if you are sick. We have a while to go though. You should be better by then. Good luck!
  23. Hey Topdownbug! Congrats! Looks like I am one step behind you ( I will be banded the 17th) How long are you taking off work?
  24. I didnt have any documentation either, so my insurance made me do a 3 month supervised weightloss plan. It wasnt so bad after I got over the initial shock of being denied. Good Luck!
  25. You know, they now have Gas X strips (like the listerine strips) that just disolve in your mouth! I thought those would be great!
